  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 24, 2010 -> 12:25 PM) According to Mark Gonzales of the Trib, The Sox did have discussions with Martinez's agent, but they never made a formal to their camp. Is there a source for this or did you ask him directly?
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 11:07 AM) The latest reports seem to indicate he has in fact signed with the Tigers? Yep.
  3. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Nov 22, 2010 -> 04:34 PM) I hate how Phil Rogers does the chat every year. Can't someone from BA actually do it? He shouldn't be compiling the list period. Phil Rogers is horrible.
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 22, 2010 -> 02:12 PM) Sox should try to get Yonder Alonso. Give me one of Mesoraco or Grandal. A legitimate catching prospect would be nice.
  5. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 21, 2010 -> 06:56 PM) Which means we are definitely going to offer him arb, right? Offering Putz arbitration has no downside. It's definitely going to happen. Konerko is pretty much in the same boat. AJ is a good shot as well, especially after Buck received a 3yr/16 million contract. I don't see much downside in having 1 more year of AJ at market value or receiving draft picks if he declines.
  6. Contreras and Buck have both signed as well.
  7. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 11:49 AM) I think a more realistic package would be something like Fowler, Ianetta, and maybe a bullpen arm for Floyd and a couple B level spects. No kidding. Not a fan of Stewart at all. Let Morel handle 3B.
  8. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 02:01 PM) Dude you're all over it today arent you? It's the alternative to term papers at the moment. Hot Stove+End of Semester do not mix well.
  9. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor...rumblings101117 In regard to replacing Werth: The Hot Stove is ablaze today.
  10. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 12:33 PM) I dont know who that guy is on comcast but he has no insight lol Huh? He's a Sox beat guy. One of the few decent ones out there.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 12:05 PM) I understand the average fan having difficulty with something like this, but if you are a "credible" baseball journalist, you should absolutely know that signing a Type A free agent does not cost a team two draft picks, and I'm pretty sure it never has. The incumbent team will receive two draft picks, yes, but one of them is in the sandwich round between the 1st and the 2nd and is compensation from MLB itself, not from any particular team. Bruce Levine is a horrible horrible source of anything. It's best to disregard almost all of what he says. If you want a laugh you should read some of the answers he gives out in his Sox/Cubs chats.
  12. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 09:41 AM) What's the date we need to offer arbitration by? Isn't there a chance a team desperate for a catcher would sign him before that deadline? I didn't think Buck would move so quickly, but him doing so has thinned out the free agent catching market quite a bit. Maybe a team would be willing to sacrifice a pick (especially if it's a second rounder) and make an offer to A.J. early if they know other teams will be waiting on our arbitration decision. November 23rd is the deadline to offer. The player must decide to accept or decline by the 30th.
  13. I don't believe the decision to offer arbitration or not is as clear-cut as some of you think. It certainly isn't a slam dunk like with Konerko and Putz, but it's entirely reasonable. Sox Machine just put up a very nice piece on the topic. http://soxmachine.com/2010/11/17/buck-deal...skis-prospects/
  14. Details aren't entirely official yet, but this certainly influences the catchers market. If Buck is getting between 5 and 6 million a year, the Sox would be foolish to not offer AJ arbitration. Not much harm in him accepting, and draft picks if he walks.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 15, 2010 -> 08:40 PM) Well...if the Sox don't trade a starter, then they don't need a LOOGY...Sale will be there. I'd wager Sale is in AAA starting.
  16. QUOTE (Cali @ Nov 14, 2010 -> 08:54 PM) I'll wait till I see the official announcement on the Sox page.... It is official. Those of us at WSI received responses from Brooks in regard to our complaints.
  17. Interested in the most expensive closer on the market who also has Boras as an agent? Sounds feasible to me.
  18. Best part of the article. Sign some international talent, kthx.
  19. Meh. Padilla just speculating. Good thing you changed the title. I was expecting some hard news.
  20. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Nov 3, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) Yet another article that points that Sox will most likely take their chances with Brent Morel as their new third baseman. As they should.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 31, 2010 -> 12:19 PM) Why? The Reds are loaded with potential starting pitchers. Volquez, Chapman, Bailey, Leake, Cueto...and that's just their young ones. Travis Wood as well. I'd kill to have one of Mesoraco or Grandal as a catching prospect. The Reds farm system ain't bad.
