QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 06:22 PM) LMAO. +1. Fisk has 3 children. I don't know their ages or sex, but I pray we sign one of them. Backup catcher problem solved. Trade Flowers for Gonzalez, Fielder, HRamirez, Roberto Alomar, whoever. Offseason over.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 06:16 PM) Look, I don't pretend that KW is the messiah. But after 9 years, if you really believe that he doesn't do whatever is in his power to make this team better, I don't know what to say. We all knew going in our options were limited. I think Kenny is great. He does what he can with what he has. He is extremely creative and has shown that he is passionate about winning. While I would love to see some of the top free agents on our team at times, I also appreciate the fact that we aren't crippled by awful contracts that we're offered because we just had to beat out every other team for one guy because he was the best player available that year in free agency. Also, I like that he drafts the family members of people involved in the organization.

White Sox NOT in attendance for Chapman workout

QUOTE (monomach @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 04:49 PM) The fact that the Sox wouldn't even look at him kind of disturbs me. Don't we have a regional scout in the south who could have driven over there with a radar gun and a video camera just to see what's to be seen? It's possible they feel they've done all the scouting they need to on this guy, as he's beginning to price out of their range. Or maybe they just don't want any Hispanic players on the team. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 06:09 PM) Thank you for missing the point. Unless you, like me, were being sarcastic. In which case that was a good rebuttal. lol. Yeah, sorry. I don't know the whole posting etiquette. Am I supposed to post in green? Or put one of those cute smiley faces?

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 06:10 PM) Well then you can just sign Orlando Hudson or Orlando Cabrera to be the backup infielder. Proud new member of the fire Kenny Williams club. Please sign Kalapse as GM.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 06:07 PM) What if we threw in Linebrink and paid $250K of his salary in both '10 and '11? I'm willing to include Omar Vizquel or even Brent Lillibridge if it means getting a deal done. I mean, I guess I'd have to seriously consider it even though it leaves a GAPING hole on our bench (backup infielder).

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 06:04 PM) OK. Maybe we can give the Rays a buzz and propose a Teahen, Konerko, Jenks package for Longoria. I'm sure if we keep trying and trying and trying they'll bite. I dont think the Rays would do that. They already have their closer in Soriano.

QUOTE (lakervin @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 05:57 PM) nice addition,a real center fielder good work kenney Are you referring to Rios? Cause Pierre isn't a real center fielder.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 12:13 PM) I doubt that very much. Boras doesnt come sniffing around the Sox front office with his high dollar pets I wouldn't want Kenny going after either of these guys. Their talents don't seem to justify the salaries that they're asking. While they ARE All-Star players, they are still somewhat a product of a weak free agent class.

To me, nothing is more frustrating than a strikeout with runners on (with a failed bunt coming in as a close second). It completely ruins the moment of the inning. It takes away the chance for an error or a runner advancing. I really like Thome and thought he did a lot for us, but I always cringed when he came up with runners on during an inning when we needed to get something going.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 04:28 PM) If you are the only one who is questioning this, maybe you should be the one explaining why Granderson isn't a star. Good point. I guess it was from looking at declining statistics (except for home runs). And not being overly impressed with his stats overall. Again, let me stress that I think he's an excellent player, just not one of the elite players in the game. However, I wasn't trying to argue that he's not a star. I was, like you, wondering why I seemed to be the only one on this board, at least, that doesn't think he is a marquee player. I simply asked for reasons why everyone else thought he was so that I could have a better understanding and see the other side and what I was missing out on. People here usually post statistics that I never think of and make me feel differently about players. I figured as soon as I asked the same would happen here. I wasn't looking to argue whether he was phenomenal or not. Just trying to figure out if he really was.

QUOTE (scenario @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 12:40 PM) Anytime a team deals two players who both made the all-star team in that year, in a single trade, it should be considered a blockbuster. How often do you see deals like that happen? I know it's stretching the comparison, but this means that Jason Marquis for Nelson Cruz would be a blockbuster. I don't really see it. I get the point you're trying to make, though. I was more looking for some good reasons why Granderson was perceived as such a dominant player (in my opinion). A few good statements have been thrown out there, but I'm still kind of confused as to why everyone seems to be so freaking high on him right now. I guess it could also be just a matter of him being in the news right now and the highest profile player to be moved so far.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 10:37 PM) He can play gold glove defense, hit 30 home runs, steal 30 bases. What's there not to like about him? He's probably not a superstar yet, but he sure does have superstar potential. Well, I do like him. I think he's a really good player. Maybe I'm viewing it incorrectly, but the headlines about it being a blockbuster are kind of bothering me.
-
Can someone explain to me why Curtis Granderson is being treated like a superstar? Maybe I'm missing something, but his stats just don't seem that great to me. I understand he's a great defensive center fielder, but I feel like this trade is being reported as a "blockbuster". I guess I just don't see it.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 03:45 PM) Because SoxNet isn't sponsored by ESPN. Speaking of ESPN, their White Sox depth chart is absolute bull****. http://espn.go.com/mlb/teams/depth?team=chw Edit: Man, Wise is still on there. Apparently, Matt Thornton isn't one of our top 5 relievers....

Maybe we can start a Cowley thread??? Kinda was hoping for something on Adrian Gonzalez. This is getting a little ridiculous.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 12:49 PM) It is because CTA sucks but can take you all over chicago and into north/south suburbs, and if not you have metra that'll extend you close to anywhere. STL's transit covers very little. Sox72, I have a couple friends going to WashU, I think you'll enjoy yourself. And go to Papis Any other suggestions?

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 09:40 AM) hahahaha oh sorry. No, seriously, there is a chance you might really love st. louis. Just, if you have kids, after they leave high school walk around with them the first day at college and if they ask the new people what high school they went to just punch the hell out of them. My major gripe with STL is their really crappy crappy public transport. I'm in law school down here and people are still asking me that question. I thought it was some sort of cool law joke that I didn't know about. Nope. They're just odd.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) and not any more humid than Chicago. Is it bad that this is the sole basis of my decision to transfer here?

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 10:19 PM) I loved Missouri weather. I thought it was the best mix I've been in. Is it the jeans sticking to your legs or constant pit stains that you love most about it?

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 01:38 PM) I've lived in St. Louis for about 6 years now and I haven't found any Sox bars. The Tin Can on Morgan Ford has some Bears fans. Where do you live? In the Central West End. We rented out the back room of a bar for the Bears game today. I have 2 more years of law school at Wash U and I have to find something to get me through this. This city doesn't compare to Chicago.

wow.......you all made me feel good about this decision

Hey all, I unfortunately just moved to St. Louis and am learning quickly how much better Chicago is. Does anyone happen to know any White Sox bars in the area? Not likely, but I figured I'd give it a shot. Or, even more relevant now, any Bears bars?
