Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
Sox72 replied to Soxnfins's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sure. That sounds better. But, really, we just need to pay him what it takes to sign him. -
I’d ban bet him that he’d stand up.
-
Very good points. But what still gets me, with respect to last off-season, is the leaking of the low-ball offer to Macahado (which allegedly came from the Sox organization) gave the Padres the idea that they had the ability to jump in. For a “master negotiator,” that was a pretty piss poor mistake.

Abreu “as valuable as anything” to Sox: Merkin
Sox72 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Agreed. It’s disappointing. And even more disappointing that the ron883s, Yoan4Moans, and Jack Parkmans are the ones who seem to weasel their way into every discussion and ruin it. If only “ban bets” were strictly enforced... -
A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron
Sox72 replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is the biggest “look at me” complete asshole thread. Why would mods not shut something like this down? Completely embarrassing. Let’s all make glorified personal gratification threads. They will proceed with no problem. What a fucking joke. -
A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron

Since he wasn’t traded, I don’t see any reality where he is not back next year. If they don’t plan on re-signing him, then why not trade him for something-anything? They certainly aren’t in contention for anything this year where it would make sense to keep him for a stretch run and let him walk. I just can’t think of any logical reason he wouldn’t be traded if they had no intention on signing him for at least next year. Maybe the long play of keeping your reputation with respect to trades? You’d have to have faith in Hahn to think that way, and I’m not saying I don’t. But it seems a stretch. -
Not to dismiss the rest of your post, but I have zero confidence Collins will ever meaningfully contribute to the Sox at the big league level. But here’s to hoping he proves me wrong.
-
This is incredible optimism. Which - nothing wrong with it, I suppose. I just hope Hahn (or anyone else) isn’t relying on the same unjustified expectations.

Huh? You previously stated Colome was the #1 closer on the market. How do those two comments line up? Moot point now, but still.

What would it take to get Noah Syndergaard?
Sox72 replied to KnightsOnMintSt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Seriously? Who says no? The Mets wouldn’t even waste their time on replying “no.” -
Colome remains with White Sox, who always had ample interest in him

Keep holding your breath for that top prospect you think someone is giving up for Colome. -

Thank you. In what world is Colome the #1 closer available? This board has a real problem with over and under valuing players depending on nothing more than whether they wear a Sox uniform. -
What’s sometimes tough to swallow is that if he were a Sox prospect and we were trading him, some posters here would be demanding a few top 100 prospects in return.
-
“I knew someone would research facts to show I’m wrong. Now go do some more research and find something, anything, that proves me right.”
-
It was a pretty active and exciting offseason for the Sox (results aside), which led to a lot of new posters. And just from a sheer numbers standpoint, a lot of those posters will be shit posters. As tends to happen with these things, they will eventually fade away.

Updated with $/WAR: Every Hahn MLB Free Agent Signing since 2012/2013
Sox72 replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Oh god. If this is a legitimate post, then f**k off. -
Why? The DH is a forgone conclusion in the not too distant future in the NL.
-
I get the point you are trying to make - I may not agree, but I get it. Regardless, I wasn’t speaking to that. I just can’t wrap my head around people clamoring for insider posts and getting excited based on the same (something, which I might add makes the board fun when under control) only to turn around and be the same people who jump down their throats as a way to take out their frustration with the situation. Some want it both ways. And it can hurt the quality of the board.
-
To those getting excited over @iamshack ‘s fairly vague post, please don’t come in here to openly shit on him if the Sox don’t sign Harper.
-
Why don’t you go post this on a Cubs forum?

Fernando Tatis Jr. trade burns more than the loss in the Machado sweeps
Sox72 replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
And a very good contribution! -
Or - because he got Machado.
-
Please. Whoever made the suggestion of a well-written ad in the paper - get that going. I will contribute.

Your perpetual optimism and silver-lining-approach is genuinely appreciated in what can often be the cesspool of posts on this site.

RON IN 2019: Thinking of cheering for the Cubs next year
Sox72 replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I was always kind of hoping that it would eventually be a “ban bet” that got you to finally leave. Would be a little more integrity in that.
