  1. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Nov 30, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) is flowers Mike Napoli? I think Flowers has a lot more OBP potential than Napoli, but it's a fair comparison IMO.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 29, 2009 -> 07:36 PM) No. 78 departed. With Jones, Vizquel and Teahan 17 are coming back. Well, we should probably be looking at around 20-30 with Rios and Beckham looks like he could take 10-15.
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 26, 2009 -> 04:21 PM) I understand why this is low risk but why does everyone consider it high reward? He hasn't been a good player in years. He had some nice power and walk numbers last year and there's a chance he could turn those into something more. He had a 13.8 BB%, a .338 wOBA and a .246 ISO. He still has the ability to take a good amount of walks and hit a lot of homers.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 26, 2009 -> 03:25 PM) Surprisingly, last year, that OPS would be the 6th highest DH OPS in the AL. Problem is, Sox got an .809 OPS out of the DH spot last year. I wouldn't mind a platoon between Thome & Jones if Jimmy would come back cheap.
  5. I have a feeling that the biggest possible splash we could see is Matsui. I'm suspecting that we'll go more in the direction of a guy like Coco Crisp or Marlon Byrd, however.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 10:18 PM) Carlos Quentin? I mean come on, has Q degraded to merely nothing in the span of one year? That Beckham dude is pretty good too.
  7. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 09:10 PM) danks danks 2 hudson flowers and lexi make it happen KW Needs more green, please.
  8. Danks was a dominant pitcher in '08 and a very solid pitcher in '09, Buehrle is being counted on as the #4 starter next year, Peavy is an ace and there is no denying that fact and Floyd had an incredible run this season after they fixed him tipping his pitches.
  9. Jason Grilli signed with a "mystery team", and said he wasn't allowed to tell. Maybe it's him?
  10. I'd offer them Bobby + 1 of Hudson/Flowers + Retherford for Upton + a reliever.
  11. I would offer Jenks as a throw in just to free up money for Matsui.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 11:34 AM) Hmm....very interesting... Who could we possibly be signing as another reclamation project that has a lot more upside, but who is not as exciting as Vizquel? That seems somewhat oxymoronic... This is really a shot in the dark, but I've been thinking about the possibility of going after Joaquin Benoit all offseason.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 21, 2009 -> 10:02 AM) so what you are saying is "it aint happenin" Matsui is probably going to want more than a 1 year deal I don't see why it would have to be a 1 year deal, I'd feel perfectly comfortable offering him 2 years w/ an option for a 3rd.
  14. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 07:49 PM) 37 years old $45M and 3 years remaining on deal 88 ERA+, 1.515 WHIP and 5.1 K/9 in 2009 The Sox already have 5 legitimate starting pitchers There is no in house replacement for Konerko Even if you threw in Linebrink that's only $22.5M ($12M for Konerko, $10.5M for Linebrink) on the White Sox's end. The Sox already have a ton of money locked up for 2010 and will need plenty of room under the budget to sign their arb eligible players, as it stands now there are 6 of them. How exactly is this a good fit? If the Braves threw in a good amount of money for the rest of his contract, I could see it being a decent move to allow us to move some one like Floyd for a slugging 1st baseman. I can't imagine it being for anything else.
  15. I could see him being successful at the Cell due to his GB%, but like you said, unless we move another starter it just doesn't make much sense.
  16. Reading through one of Rosenthal's newer articles, he names the White Sox, Brewers and Angels at trade partners. He suggests a Paul Konerko-for-Derek Lowe swap. What do you guys think on this? It doesn't seem to make much sense to me unless the Braves tossed us a good amount of cash.
  17. If I'm Kenny, I call up Dombrowski and offer Flowers, Hudson, Retherford and Viciedo for Granderson. Add a player like him to our line-up and outfield and we instantly have a dangerous order and extremely effective defensive outfield. I would personally prefer him to Adrian Gonzalez, seeing as he'd probably be cheaper and fits more of what this team needs, IMO.
  18. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Nov 12, 2009 -> 01:02 PM) If Flowers actually does project as a Catcher at the Major League level, we'd be fools to deal him. However, if he looks more like a DH/1B candidate, I'd make him available to help the team make a run next year. He was voted at the best defensive catcher in his league by the coaches, I think he'll stick.
  19. Get it done w/out D2, having him around helps with signing Johnny, and that's something that we need to take care of.
  20. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 01:50 AM) Didn't they change the LaRoche's jerseys to Ad. and An.? They both played the field.
  21. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 05:21 PM) Danks and Floyd are no longer cheap. Dotel and Dye are Type A free agents by the way. Floyd is cheap.
  22. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Nov 7, 2009 -> 03:42 PM) "Generally and historically teams do not want their best players at 2nd base.' You mean like the 2008 AL MVP Pedroia?! Get a clue. Youkilis is Boston's best player, and he resides at 1st.
  23. I can't see Toronto dumping Overbay for those two, but if we offered a guy like Retherford, we'd probably be able to snag him.
  24. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 01:37 AM) That is also part of the reason why I started calling him that, and Johnny will obviously become Joh. Danks. Sucks for people who will have to buy a new Johnny Danks jersey! They're not going to change John's jersey. Having Jor. Danks on one is more than enough to distinguish them. Not to mention that if you see one doing anything other than pitching, you had better know which it is.
  25. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Nov 7, 2009 -> 04:29 AM) That's a bold statement knowing our GM, but I'm right on board that ship with ya. I'd say CJ Retherford would go to Tampa now that Iwamura is gone. He's now our best trading piece with Beckham at 2nd and Viciedo to take 3rd post Teahen. Tampa just got Sean Rodriguez in the Kazmir trade to be their second basemen. If we trade for Crawford without including Danks, it'll probably be Hudson going.
