  1. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 09:50 PM) oh yeah there are plenty of guys who won it based on name or bat Gold Gloves seriously are useless. UZR/Fielding Bible are the way to go for defense and Rios has scored very, very high on both. He's an elite defensive outfielder.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 01:36 PM) Since PODS is not coming back our outfield has a hole, who will we fill it with? Have to expect another trade, can't afford any of the outfield bats that would be useful.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 01:22 PM) Dont underestimate the importance of a good leadoff and top of the order hitter. Both teams in the WS had that and the teams that moved on all had those players in place as well. If we can find two guys with decent OBP's to hit 8 & 9, I think putting Beckham in the 1 slot would make for a very good lineup.
  4. Teahen actually has power. He has slugged over .500 in the majors, it's just a matter of getting him back to where he was in 06.
  5. Seems to me like Teahen should start at 3rd this year, and if Viciedo proves himself ready for the job in 2011, Teahen slides to the bench and takes over Mark Kotsay's job.
  6. Well, we now may have the best offensive SS/2b combo in the AL.
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 12:59 PM) I seem to remember him being quite solid in 05' and 06' or something...I swear he was looking solid defensively when he started settling in with the Royals...I remember him robbing us all the time and Hawk talking about how good he was going to be... I think he was about league average at 3rd in 06, but in 07 or something he posted a ridiculously bad UZR. We'll see.
  8. Teahen has put up positive UZR's at 3rd in the past, his numbers are dragged down by 2/3 s***ty years. He may be salvageable over there.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 12:34 PM) Finding a cheap DH who can hit 20-25 homers in our park really shouldn't be too difficult. I'm not worried about our power at all, as this team would finally be able to hit a decent amount of doubles. I really hope the Sox go after Russell Branyan. He just OPS'd .867 and hit 31 HR in Safeco and he bats left handed, seems like a perfect fit for us this offseason.
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 12:20 PM) Are they going to re-up Cuddyer? I sure hope so, his option is huge and it'd pretty much mark the end of the Twins offseason.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 12:10 PM) The more I think about this deal, the more I like it (from a Sox perspective). Gomez is the type of guy that will develop to someone that will be a thorn in our side, imo. I realize he was benched for a chunk of last year, but he's got tools and I love tools. Hardy can hit for power, but is coming of a down year and is a butcher with the glove. Twins are taking a chance, but he'll really hurt there team D and this really is a non-Twins like move. I'm very curious to see how this works out for each team. Brewers clearly didn't have a need for Hardy with Escobar being there future at SS. Hardy is one of the best defensive shortstops in baseball, the last 3 seasons he has posted UZR's of 14.8, 8.2 and 6.7, he's never had a negative UZR and has always had high RngR's as well, and his career high for errors is 15.
  12. QUOTE (daggins @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 12:39 PM) I don't like giving up two minimum salaries for a 1 WAR, 4.5MM guy. Especially from a GM who constantly b****es about not having the cash to get good players. Kenny hasn't being saying that. His moves have been speaking to the contrary, in fact. Adding Peavy, Rios and now Teahen is throwing around some serious cash.
  13. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 12:37 PM) and Ozzie can't say it until KW tells him he's done making moves in the offseason Exactly. We shouldn't be freaking out about this move until we know for sure where Teahen is playing. Kenny always describes his offseasons as puzzles, and this is the first piece to it. There will be more to come.
  14. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 12:34 PM) Everybody who has reported on this story has mentioned Teahen to RF. That is why we are freaking out. Until I hear Ozzie or Kenny say that, I'm not believing it.
  15. I think this makes the infield: Teahen, Ramirez, Beckham, Konerko, not the outfield: Q!, Rios, Teahen.
  16. Only thing that makes sense about it to me is that Teahen has more power and RBI potential. This is our first move, it may not make sense now, but I trust that Kenny is going to use Teahen correctly and acquire players to compliment him.
  17. Sox are confirming it, Getz + Fields for Teahen. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/1867251,tea...rade-05.article
  18. Selected in the 5th round (163 overall) by the White Sox in 2009 - Scouting Report from http://www.pgcrosschecker.com Bellamy throws a fastball from 88-92 with heavy movement and a "frisbee" slider. In '09: Bellamy worked three games in Bristol and seventeen in Kanny, his numbers between the two teams were very impressive: 2-0, 1.23 ERA, 20G/22IP, 14H/1HR, 2BB/30K. Kyle has been added to the AFL roster and projects to be a fast riser through the Sox system.
  19. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Nov 1, 2009 -> 10:32 AM) Who is a better defender: Hermida or Ross? Anyone have some sort of sick pain fetish and watch the Marlins this year? I live in SoFla and can tell you that Ross is a tremendously better outfielder than Hermida.
  20. Hermida was being mentioned as a non-tender candidate earlier in the offseason, I think that some package along the lines of Fields and maybe Carlos Torres would get it done.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 28, 2009 -> 04:13 PM) There is also the Jared Mitchell factor, who projects as a star defensive CF. Mitchell is a fast guy with a weak arm, I've never read he projects as a star defensive CF, he didn't even play CF in college.
  22. Apparently the Mets were told that he wants up to 60M. http://twitter.com/NYPost_Mets/status/5151220373
  23. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 25, 2009 -> 11:32 AM) I have no problem with being in the minority of opinions. I like Chris Getz, but when every reputable metric points to Jayson Nix being the better player, I can’t help but be swayed in one direction over the other. In the end, I don’t think either is the ideal option. Hell, I’d kill for CJ Retherford to win the job, but if defensive really is a priority for this team then Nix is your guy. On defense.
  24. I could see one of those guys becoming the long reliever if the Sox feel like DJ is a setup guy.
  25. I'm going to assume that we keep Bobby - CL) Jenks SU) Thornton SU) Hudson MRP) Free Agent(Joe Beimel?)/Johnny Nunez MRP) Tony Pena MRP) Scott Linebrink LRP) DJ Carrasco.
