QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Feb 13, 2018 -> 11:16 PM) Personally I can give a tinker's cuss (ya like that phrase?) what the team payroll is in 2019. Honestly I could care less. My personal opinion is they still won't be ready to really compete anyway in 2019. They'll be better, maybe a game or three over .500, but still not ready. THAT takes place in 2020. So again to answer your question, I DON'T CARE... talk to me in 2020 and if they have turned the corner and are starting to "win" I don't care what the payroll is, how big or little the profit margin is or even who owns the damn team. I only care about one thing and one thing only....WINNING GAMES! ...could NOT care less. Mark, I say this only because you are a linguist.

QUOTE (mac9001 @ Feb 12, 2018 -> 07:10 PM) I would imagine Ryan Cordell would need to really impress to the break camp with the team. Since he missed a big chunk of last year I figure he'll need to show at least 100 quality PAs to justify getting the a roster spot. With the roster flexibility Leury, Saladino, Sanchez, Delmonico & Davidson provide I wonder if the Sox would consider carrying 8 bullpen arms. In that case I would assume Cordell is the most likely to start in Charlotte. Anyone have any hope Engel will hit enough to justify a big league job? Nope.

QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Feb 11, 2018 -> 12:16 AM) If the Rays are relocating in the central part of Florida, I would think Orlando would be better choice than Tampa. With the move to Tampa (Yber City), the new stadium will be much more accessible to Orlando residents.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Feb 9, 2018 -> 03:53 PM) I thought the Rays might move to Las Vegas Not smart enough.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Feb 9, 2018 -> 10:10 AM) Possibly. I think the biggest issue with that trade was that the Sox could have gotten a better return for Kahnle. But with Frazier and Robertson attached, it didn't really add anything. If Rutherford improves and is close to being the player it was once thought he would be, it'll look like a good trade. You're being too kind to Sox brass on that trade. Sox should have gotten a lot more from Yanks.

Agent for DJ Martinez PO'd at Red Sox, shifting talks to other teams. Supposedly. -
QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Feb 4, 2018 -> 12:31 AM) What "era where we like losing" are you referring to? You mean the rebuild the team is currently in YEAR 2 of? Or are you talking about the run from '07-'16 where we "went for it and spent $" and made the playoffs once (BTW, during that 10 year run, the Sox averaged just over 78 wins while "going for it", only cracking above 85 wins thrice )? What do you have against logically building a controllable team, then filling in the needs once we know what's there greggles? Step off the ledge and breathe man, it'll be ok. It's been stated here numerous times by several different posters that no one really likes losing, just us statniks understand the benefit of losing whilst the White Sox are rebuliding, which makes the losses easier to accept. I'm sure I've wasted my own time here explaining this, but I couldn't help myself. Greg has a point. Face it, the majority of the rebuilding efforts have been through trades, not draft picks. The last two Number 1 picks, Burger and Collins, are hardly the cornerstones of the rebuild. If Sox could find a real major league CF, they have what could be a pretty good lineup. I would like to see them go for it, at least until Trading Deadline, and see what happens.

QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Jan 29, 2018 -> 03:08 AM) I cannot get over the Sox losing Tatis Jr. in the Shields trade. I was mad about it when it happened and now it just irks the he11 out of me when I see it come up, like it did at Soxfest. That will turn out to be the worst trade in White Sox history. It's tough to beat the Johnny Callison trade to the Phillies in 1959, but the Tatis trade probably will turn out to be Number One in that category.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 10:20 AM) On my Big Board as of today, this is how I have the outfields: MLB: Cordell/Engel/AGarcia, 4OF: Delmonico/Leury AAA: May/Tilson/WGarcia, DH/OF Palka, 4OF Robbins AA: Fisher/Polo/Jimenez, DH/OF Hawkins, 4OF Gelalich A+: 4-rota of Call/Basabe/Booker/Adolfo with DH, 4OF: Schnurbusch A: 4-rota of Robert/Rutherford/Gonzalez/Dedelow with DH, 4OF: Taylor ***Rk/EXT: Destino, Frost, Garcia, Coronado, Brown, Staudinger, etc. Worth noting that Destino and Frost both saw some infield work time at the hitters' camp, so they may be working to get them into A-ball somehow. You really think Engel starts season as the CF?

All 30 MLB clubs will now have nets extended past dugouts for the 2018

Nets are really needed in Denver. Dugouts are very close to plate. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 08:35 AM) Sox needed to get rid of Swisher. Didn't really matter what they got in return. The problem was trading for him to begin with Who did we give up in that Oakland trade for Swisher? -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 10:52 AM) Steve Swisher? Nick Swisher. Steve's son. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 09:04 AM) Gonzalez will be in CF primarily at whichever level he's at IMO. Heres my guess on how it shakes out. Charlotte: Polo, May, Cordell, Palka, etc Birmingham: Jimenez, Booker, Fisher Winston Salem: Robert (CF), Adolfo (RF), Basabe (LF), Call Kannapolis: Gonzalez (CF), Rutherford, Dedelow, Destino I think Cordell has as good a chance as Tilson and Engel of making the team.

2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread
oldsox replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Just saw an article on ESPN.com chronicling Brian Cashman's 20 year career as Yanks' GM, listing his four best trades. #4 was when he "stole" Nick Swisher from White Sox. He gave up Betemit, Marquez, and Jhonny Nunez. -

Sox expecting to open '18 with both Avi and Abreu

QUOTE (mac9001 @ Jan 29, 2018 -> 08:41 PM) If there was a bookie taking bets I'd feel more comfortable putting my money on Avi being non-tendered next off-season then getting a big extension. Non-tendered? How bad do you think Avi will be in 2018? -

ESPN.com has Moustakas listed with White Sox as likely landing spot. -
QUOTE (pablo @ Jan 24, 2018 -> 04:30 PM) Love seeing Collins come in at #5. I'm sure most publications will knock him further down the list, but having an offensive weapon at catcher is such a bonus. His ceiling is above Dunning and probably Cease for me so I like that you guys sort of went out on a limb and put him at 5. Expecting big things out of him and Rutherford this year. Don't think we've seen the real player out of either of them yet. Or are they listed so high simply because of their #1 Draft status, ala Courtney Hawkins? We'll see.

QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Jan 23, 2018 -> 02:22 PM) Gosh that trade was so so so bad.. Thank goodness Hahn made some good ones so we could forget that one Yes, Yanks really made out on that trade.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 17, 2018 -> 02:07 AM) Not by much at all after looking at BR. Harrison has a little more pop but that's about it. I'll take the 25 year old slick fielding Sanchez over Harrison any day. I like Harrison but I like Sanchez more. Agreed. Can't see Sox paying that additional money for Harrison. Yolmer should keep improving, too. -

Put Yelich in CF, and the Sox have a very good lineup
