  1. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Dec 28, 2017 -> 10:40 PM) This. They're both great players, but it's a bit premature to go out and start trading away assets before you even know what you have in house. Give the kids another year and re-evaluate next offseason when the big FA's are available. Especially Cease.
  2. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Dec 27, 2017 -> 06:58 PM) Look at these contracts. their length and the ages of their highest-paid players. https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/SF...contracts.shtml This reinforces my oft expressed opinion that GM's are usually outwitted by the agents to the point where they (GMs) really look stupid, and they would not make it in any other industry.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 26, 2017 -> 02:26 PM) He also drove into a corn field. Trading Aparicio to Boston was almost as stupid as trading him to Baltimore.
  4. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 24, 2017 -> 04:15 PM) I just don't see how Frazier's value dropped so much that he's not a headliner for Cole. What are the reasons for Frazier's drop in value because I'm not seeing it? He didn't hit much. Yanks probably looking to fleece someone (again).
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 22, 2017 -> 08:33 AM) Williams can tie it with a three....he does! Chalmers??
  6. Not me. I'll take an improving Yolmer/Carlos at third in our final rebuilding year. We don't know what we have in Cease.
  7. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 03:07 PM) Dick Vitale (a Rays season ticket holder) is pretty pissed. He sent out a tweet saying fans aren't paying major league prices to see minor league players. Dick lives outside of Venice, FL, which is a 3.5 hour drive to Miami. I doubt he sees many Marlin games.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 02:49 PM) Bob Nightengale‏Verified account @BNightengale 1h1 hour ago The #Rays, of course, now will be trying to trade Denard Span if they can. Please don't call RH about Span.
  9. Still saying that Jeter got special treatment from MLB.
  10. MLB at fault here. One of the requisites for new ownership is liquidity after the purchase price. Obviously, this was overlooked for the Jeter Group.
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 18, 2017 -> 03:43 PM) No offense, but this all comes off as a Cubs fanboy circle jerk. What do you mean "if he finds a way to dump those salaries"? Heyward is unmovable at this point, I don't care what kind of magician you think he is. Lester is probably going to be unmovable soon enough, but let's say he isn't, then who replaces him in the rotation exactly? The Cubs have almost no internal pitching talent at the moment. And I'm not sure how you think Theo is going to convince the Ricketts to spend more than they're comfortable with or what their debt load allows. Again, what the Red Sox were able or willing to do has nothing to do with the Cubs. The Ricketts are simply not going to commit to three massive long-term contracts, way too risky for an ownership group that recently had to sell equity in the team to ensure enough on-going cash flow. I missed that. Got any details?
  12. Anybody here know why MM's stats were off last season? Plus, he is not as good as Arenado. Just sayin.....
  13. Dodgers have a lot of prospects, no doubt about it.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 16, 2017 -> 05:40 PM) I'm sure everyone has seen that there's more talk on twitter the last 24 hours about Cubs going after him than the Sox That deal makes more sense than any Sox deal I have seen here.
  15. QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Dec 16, 2017 -> 05:11 PM) This thread is in dire need of a rumor. Machado wants to be a closer; Renteria said OK.
  16. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 16, 2017 -> 02:04 PM) If he was DFAd, can't he just be claimed off waivers for nothing? Nope.
  17. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 07:05 AM) That bullpen is going to blow a lot of games. Yes, thanks to the Yankee trade. Cranston sure won that one.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 06:59 PM) Sale trade was fair, no complains there ChrisnfreakingSale should have gotten at least 3 real prospects, we got two. Face it, DD hoodwinked RH when he added Diaz and Basabe. It's over, who cares. I was just sticking up for Balta.
  19. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 06:09 PM) What are the other five? James Shields is obviously one of them. What else are you including? The Shields trade counts twice, it was soooo stupid. Getting only two prospects (and I love both Kopech and Moncada) for Sale is another. The Yankee swindle is a third or fourth. One to go.
  20. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 03:12 PM) Ya know an infield of Yolmer, Machado, Moncada, Abreu gets me excited. For one year.
  21. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 10, 2017 -> 02:12 AM) Frazier may be a bit younger, but in a similar amount of AAA PAs last year, Cordell put up a .855 OPS to Frazier's .817. I think prospect hype may bee driving your opinion in this case. Cordell played half a season at Colorado Springs. That will help his stats. I wish I knew what Sox have or don't have in Cordell. Can he play Center? If so, he has to be an upgrade over our guy Engel. Is he better than Leury? I sure don't know.
  22. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 9, 2017 -> 05:56 PM) Not every rebuild will go along the cubs and astros blueprint though. Right now the white sox, padres, braves, Phillies, soon royals , etc. are undergoing full blown rebuilds. Some will work, others will completely fail. The Stanton deal looks great for the Yankees right now, but I think they will end up regretting the trade several years down the line when he seriously regresses and still has 5-6 years left on his contract with a full no trade clause. I’m very nervous about the white sox pursuing a top free agent next offseason for huge money, opt outs and with complete no trade clauses that make the deal totally favor the player in terms of downside. How often do mega deals actually work out for a team before they really regret the signing? No they won't.
