  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 9, 2017 -> 02:03 PM) There is nothing to investigate with this trade. Jeter's connections to the Yankees is coincidental. The Marlins let it be known to the rest of the league that they wanted to cut costs. Getting rid of the biggest contract in MLB history is a part of that. Not saying Jeter is on the take, but this trade is bad for baseball for several reasons. Freaking Yankees. It was bad enough when they ripped us off in the Frazier, Robertson, Kahnle trade. This one takes the cake.
  2. Maybe MLB will disallow the trade. Fact is, they allowed the Jeter Group to buy the team and watch as they immediately tried to make the team worse. Never saw that before. I always thought that one of the requirements for new ownership is to have the liquidity to run the franchise. I guess MLB looked the other way in order to get Jeter in the Owners Club.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 10:14 PM) It means the GM didn’t give a s*** about potential future consequences, because his charge was to win now. I just read that Yanks' Jacoby Ellsbury also has the No Trade clause. (Almost) Unbelievable.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 09:04 PM) It’s the fact that GM’s need to win now; their timeframe in the job is not often aligned with long-term consequences very well. So does that mean that Stanton would not have signed that contract without the No Trade clause, or does it mean that the GM was either stupid or overmatched?
  5. Gotta question the wisdom for GM's giving no trade clauses. Don't know if agents are inherently smarter than GM's, or do they just have bigger stones?
  6. QUOTE (FT35 @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 04:59 PM) Like everyone else, I'm just not sure. And I'm mostly not sure if the research and his numbers tell us as much of the true story as the logic behind them does. He had 2 off-years stemming from a major knee injury and the subsequent conditioning effects of...having a major knee injury. The "healthy numbers" have been there and been pretty consistent. Like Dam8610 pointed out earlier if you plug his missed month and a half numbers into his stat line from last hear you'd have a 25 HR player. Now would the average still be .330 with a month and a half of AB's factored in? Maybe, maybe not. But plugging in another 45 days of stats, an OF with a line of .315-.330/90/25/100?? would be in pretty elite company with other MLB OF's. To see all things past/recent past lead to producing a line like this is encouraging since all the scouting that went into acquiring him pointed to this type of potential. He might have been this player all along underneath the injury/long rehab process. We certainly thought he was when we traded for him. Why on EARTH would we have resigned him after the absolute disaster the previous 2 seasons!?!? There's something more behind the numbers to Avi Garcia that we might not realize. Probably because they couldn't trade him.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 05:47 PM) Craig Mish‏Verified account @CraigMish 4h4 hours ago SourceS : Full trade offer from SF to Miami for Giancarlo Stanton. Tyler Beede Heliot Ramos (1st noted by @JoeFrisaro ) Chris Shaw Christian Arroyo @jonmorosi had 250 mil 1st @clarkspencer had some combo of this deal also. Giants' prospects 1-4. Pretty salty.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 2, 2017 -> 03:43 PM) You and our President share the same definition of the word "facts". There you go again. Southsider has to weave politics into another SoxTalk thread.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 10:38 AM) I tried for a whole summer in my teen years to do it. Could never get the fluid mechanics down as I did from my natural side. I was terrible. Why am I not surprised.
  10. QUOTE (SoxSteve @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 05:05 PM) What is the status of Victor Diaz and do you think he has any chances to figure in the Sox plans down the road? Good question. The answer is likely a big NO, but a good question. I still feel that Sale should have brought us more than two prospects.
  11. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Nov 25, 2017 -> 09:28 AM) I don't have an opinion on Murphy but catchers tend to develop later than positional players. So 27 is not unrealistic for a catcher. Swihart of Boston will be 26 next spring training and there has been talk of him on this board as well. Still, any conversation of Murphy for Abreu is a waste of fresh air.
  12. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 24, 2017 -> 05:23 PM) Murphy had 280 AB’s all of last year and 26 were at the major league level. And you wrote him off already lol? And keep dreaming if you think we are getting all 3 of those prospects Murphy was virtually handed the catching job in ST and he got hurt, came back and was overwhelmed offensively. I saw him. He got one hit, and they sent him down. If Rockies re-sign Lacroy, Murphy is baggage to them. A 27 year old rookie, so, yeah, I have written him off as a trade target for Abreu. You don't trade a stud hitter like Abreu for guys like Murphy. Keep laughing. If RH is serious about finding a trade partner for Abreu, and I hope he is not, the Rox are great candidates. They love Abreu, and they would give up a lot for him. Of course, they would probably want us to take Desmond off their hands. No thanks. Rox don't really need Tapia or McMahon (if they had Abreu), so they would be offered. Then there remains Rodgers and Pint.
  13. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 24, 2017 -> 03:48 PM) Abreu to Rockies for McMahon, Tom Murphy, and Ryan Castellini Not even close. Murphy failed miserably last season. He's not as good as Kevin Smith. Rockies would include Rodgers, Tapia, and Pint for Abreu.
  14. QUOTE (Jim Busby @ Nov 24, 2017 -> 10:13 AM) This is the ONLY person who wants the Chicago White Sox to really WIN. The other replies I read sounds like OLD Cubs who the 2000 fan base. As a true Chicago White Sox Fan I want to win Now. He's not the ONLY one. I say extend the two sluggers and see what happens.
  15. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Nov 22, 2017 -> 09:36 AM) Yep. It only takes 1 day of service time to obtain lifetime health insurance coverage and just 43 days to qualify for the pension which starts at $34,000/year. Are you sure? It used to take 4 years to vest, and 10 years to max out.
  16. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 23, 2017 -> 04:27 AM) s***, you do it all the time, all day all night, 24/7 just the old days of MTV when they played music videos. Oh look, a baseball nugget ( non-poop form). https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/mari...-relievers.html " the Seattle experience ": large Japanese community, rain, Jimi Hendrix, rain, plenty of fresh fish markets, rain, grunge music, rain, Sir Mix-a-Lot and more rain. Plus, big time traffic jams on the bridges.
  17. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 04:22 PM) Clarkin, really? Nobody was going to pick that guy. Then why did we trade for him. No argument with what you said, but the whole trade with Yanks has me miffed. They got a lot from us, three guys who played a big part in their pennant and playoff drive, and we get Clarkin, who should not have been protected according to many here, along with Rutherford, who fizzled in Low A.
  18. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 19, 2017 -> 04:45 PM) I think they cut Petricka, Putnam, & Alburquerque and add Jimenez, Peter, Gillespie, Guerrero, Clark, & Adolfo. What about Clarkin?
  19. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 19, 2017 -> 07:49 PM) How many MLB owners do you really think are in it for the money? Loria perhaps, not sure I could name another. Most of these guys want to win above all else (as long as they don’t lose money). This idea that rebuilding is somehow super profitable is odd to me. Along with a decrease in payroll comes a huge decrease in attendance and ultimately revenue. If the rebuild goes south, the financial impacts can be significant in the long-run. I can promise you the last thing Jerry wants to do is endure a rebuild, but given where our organization was at we really didn’t have a choice. All of them.
  20. Hang in there, Greg; they're unlikely to trade those two sluggers.
  21. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 18, 2017 -> 10:07 AM) Trades: Avi Garcia to OAK for SS/OF Jorge Mateo & RHP Daulton Jefferies Why?
  22. Rivera was noted for his head first slide. Very few, if any were doing it then. Pete Rose got a lot of credit for making it fashionable as a sign of "hustle", but Jungle did it first.
  23. Out of the four big trades Sox made (Red Sox, Nats, Cubs, Yanks), the Cub trade looks the best right now.
  24. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Nov 8, 2017 -> 08:57 AM) I cannot believe we have not heard more of Grandson to the White Sox to mentor the younger guys........bringing him home to Chicago.... Granderson is probably done. If he wants to be a mentor, sign him as a Coach.
