  1. Greatest baseball player to come out of Colorado. Graduated from suburban Denver high school in 1995, #17 overall pick. Lots of stories were written there about Halladay over the years, all of them complimentary. He would have looked great in a Rocky uniform. Future Hall of Famer.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 5, 2017 -> 04:24 PM) Plenty of reason to trade Avi this offseason if we get something that counts as "fair", certainly not requiring being blown away. 2 years away from free agency, price going up, if he's this good then he's going to be very expensive to keep and we may not want to pay that price, if he isn't this good then the best deals available for him will be this offseason. Avi will be a lot more expensive next year, especially, if he has another good year. Sign him now. Sox can easily afford him.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 4, 2017 -> 09:06 AM) Didn't that framework include one of the other Marlins' outfielders though? Correct. It was Yelich and Stanton. That article is at least two weeks old now.
  4. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 2, 2017 -> 11:39 PM) Same here. I don't think the Sox are interested. Guys. Wasn't there a recent rumor that speculated Groome and/or Chavis would could used to acquire Stanton? Don't remember where I had read it. Maybe posted in this thread for all I know, lol. A while back I referenced a Boston newspaper article that mentioned Bogaerts, Bradley, Groome. and one other unnamed prospect. Many here doubted Stanton could get that much. I agree with that now, too.
  5. Who was the Miami GM who negotiated that deal?
  6. Eloy can put the White Sox back on the baseball map again.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 27, 2017 -> 08:33 AM) I still maintain that if Stanton is moved he gets moved for very little. Depends on how good Jeter is at finessing the other GMs. Remember, this is Jeter's first rodeo. All it takes is one or two teams to offer a real package for Stanton, and the bidding will start. It will be interesting, and the Boston GM is probably salivating right now. They need some home run power, and they can probably afford Stanton. However, I don't know where they stand on the luxury tax.
  8. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 27, 2017 -> 08:13 AM) The amount of money owed to Stanton dwarfs ALL of those. But, he can hit.
  9. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 25, 2017 -> 05:44 PM) You named two pitchers and " a bunch " of rule 5 players. Who are the bunch anyway? And the point you missed is when was the last time a prospect position player jumped from A to AAA? Pitchers and position players are very different. Pujols? He went from A to the Bigs.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 26, 2017 -> 03:53 PM) Insane. Give me the Boston players every single time. Not really, if Jeter really is under a mandate to get payroll down to $90ishMM. DD certainly has the balls to pull off a trade like that. Stanton and Ozuna?? I'll take those two. It came from one of the Boston papers, by the way.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 26, 2017 -> 04:59 PM) Mostly this. If they had used Erstad appropriately and he had been a 4th OF, backup 1B, and pinch hitter, I wouldn't have cared, but I knew he was going to be the starter over Brian Anderson, who was clearly a superior talent, even when the Sox got to a point when they were out of contention. Instead, he was used as a regular and it was as bad as I thought it would be. In that one partial year with White Sox, Erstad was one of the worst centerfielders I have ever seen.
  12. Lots of Stanton rumors in Boston. Some combination of Bradley, Bogaerts, Groome, and others for Stanton and either Ozuna or Yelich. Jeter told to get payroll down.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 12, 2017 -> 06:07 PM) I don’t think we need to fill up Charlotte’s roster Sure we do. Plus, Ravelo is a better hitter than many on the Sox roster. Had he not been included in that Shark trade with the A's, he would have made the Sox roster eventually. He certainly fits the description of "buy low".
  14. Or he could have gone into first base head first.
  15. I say get Rangel Ravelo from St. Louis. Not on 40 man roster. He had another solid year in AAA this year.
  16. Both Sale and Q pitched their asses off for the Sox. Both great competitors, really good pitchers.
  17. QUOTE (Scoots @ Oct 9, 2017 -> 04:05 PM) Q just got pulled out of the game after Kyle Schwarber played soccer in left field. The announcer said "Quintana deserved better." How many times have we heard that? Story of his life. Man. Q should not have been pulled. At least that's what I thought when they did it. But on the subject of pitching Wins being important, one of the best pitching stats in my adult life was way back in 1971 when Steve Carlton won 27 for the woeful, last place Phillies. 27 Wins. That is still the stat everyone points to for Carlton's career year.
  18. That was good, Mark. I remember Landis so well in 1959. He started the season batting eighth, and after a month or so he started to hit a little bit and they moved him up a notch. At the end of the season, he was hitting third and was probably the best player on that team in second half. Lots of clutch hits late in games. I also remember a diving catch he made vs KC with two outs in 9th and bases loaded. Dick Williams hit it. RIP.
  19. If Cordel can play CF, he probably does have a shot.
  20. QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 6, 2017 -> 04:50 PM) Funny, I just posted this link to another thread of yours. I think Cordel may be a sleeper. Tell me why, please.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 5, 2017 -> 04:36 PM) Going back to this I am going to mention that the Sale and Eaton deals were sort of connected. While it sounds like Washington actually had the second best offer for Sale, the Sox parlayed a few of those guys into the eventual Eaton deal once Hahn found out who was available from the Sale deal. If the Sox send Sale to Washington, it also means the Eaton deal never happens, so you have to figure out a way to rebuild that deal somewhere else. From the whispers, it sounds the combination of both deals was by far the largest offers we had for the combination of both players, and while maybe you get more for Sale from someone else, if you get a much smaller deal from Eaton because the Sale deal took up their top prospects, you end up with a net loss even if you get more for Sale individually. I'm trying to figure out how the Eaton deal, which came right after the Sale deal, makes it wise for Sox to accept Basabe and Diaz, two guys who will likely never be close to quality MLBers, as the final two parts of a 4 player haul for Sale.
  22. Continuing: I wish one of our Admins had the opportunity to interview Paddy on the Tatis matter.
  23. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 02:56 PM) There were people out there that were plenty upset about Tatis, thinking he might be a pretty prospect, I certainly wasn't one of them. And I don't agree with Greensox on anything but I think it's completely fair to say that the Sox didn't know what they had in Tatis. I mean, they clearly didn't. Then why did they give him such a nice signing bonus? Can't remember the amount, but it was more than most of those DR guys got. Someone must have liked him. Why not let him play a year in Rookie League before making the decision to trade him. Preller probably knew him better than we did. The whole thing stinks. That's why Hahn doesn't want to open up about it. It smacks of incompetence. Who on the Sox Front Office, besides Hahn, was consulted on this trade? Seems like a logical question to me. But Preller comes along and probably insisted on Tatis, so why would Hahn say No? Let me check him out. Oh, you'll take Eric Johnson off our hands, too? Good deal. And, And I'll only have to pay half of Sheilds' salary?? What a deal.
  24. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 01:03 PM) James Fegan @JRFegan Replying to @JRFegan Sox need to protect Eloy Jimenez, Casey Gillaspie, Ryan Cordell from Rule 5 eligibility, case to be made for Jake Peter, Brian Clark, Jordan Guerrero...Micker Adolfo, Tito Polo. This frees up some space Eloy has 4 yrs in stateside pro ball; don't have to protect him yet.
  25. After reading most of this thread, I was watching PTI and there was a comment by Derek Jeter to the effect that there will be some very unpopular decisions to be made. Nothing specific, however, unless I missed it.
