  1. No final rosters yet, far as I know.
  2. Fisher seems like a strike out machine. I like Laureano. We should scout both once seasons start. Great post, BTW.
  3. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 01:00 PM) Leury scratched with "flu like symptoms". I think it's time teams stop using this phrase. Past its usefulness. Agreed. Back in the day when David Thompson was tearing it up in the ABA and then the NBA after the merger, he ran into that demon he could not conquer, Mr. Cocaine, and that was the standard phrase management came up with to explain his absence.
  4. QUOTE (brett05 @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 08:15 AM) I never knew that there were eligibility rules for American kids. I thought any HS Senior or College Kid of any year was eligible. Found it. I never knew. Players at four-year colleges and universities are eligible three years after first enrolling in such an institution, or after their 21st birthdays (whichever occurs first). Junior and community college players are eligible to be drafted at any time. ala Tim Anderson.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 11:43 AM) The wild card in all of this is a Donald Trump Presidency. You know he is looking to destroy the captial gains and inheritance taxes. JR is smart enough to realize that any changes that happens in those areas could well be quickly overturned with a new President and Congress, and try to get something done in a limited time frame. C'mon, Southsider. You can find a better, more accurate word, can't you?
  6. Who has seen Moncada up close? Does he look overweight? I hope he doesn't room with Courtney Hawkins.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 26, 2017 -> 04:23 PM) Shields is so bad. Still will never understand how they decided to make that trade Ditto.
  8. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Mar 26, 2017 -> 10:34 AM) I think this statement is entirely wrong. But feel free to keep repeating it every single time. Two words for you: TAX HIT if he sells before he passes on. That is all. Mark Long Term Capital Gain, right? What is the rate now? What will it be when he sells?
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 04:24 PM) Seems likely the Braves have made best Q offer https://www.fanragsports.com/mlb/heyman-11-...pring-training/ And, yet, another glowing report on Tatis, Jr. -- calling him a "hitting bomb."
  10. QUOTE (GermanSock @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 04:07 PM) I think the velocity will come back. What I'm concerned about more is the reports on the low spin rate (little movement) on the fastball. Even when he was hitting 94 his swinging strike rates were not great. Not sure what do make out of this. Maybe he should add another pitch that is less dependent on spin (sinker), I don't know. If his command was better the straight fastball would be less of an issue (I think kershaws 4 seamer is also pretty straight) but if your heater is straight and not located well it is going to get hammered even at 94 (maybe he would get away with it at 100). As a rule, 4 seamers are always straight(er), no matter who throws it.
  11. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 05:09 PM) Well, until a trade happens one way or another, I'll choose to believe if we could get Moncada for Sale, and the Yankees could get Gleyber Torres for four months of Aroldis Chapman, then we should be able to get Torres for four years of Quintana. I could be wrong, but for me it just stands to reason. And at least for now, thinking along these lines, it is kind of exciting to think about a potential dynamite double play combination with the #2 & #3 prospects in baseball right now with Moncada and Torres. Punt Anderson and his speed & arm to centerfield, and you got the makings of tremendous strength up the all-important middle. I won't lie to you - love that idea! Bad logic here. Cubs were going for World Series, they were easily negotiated out of Torres. That's why a trade for Q likely to happen in July.
  12. What if he can hit like Schwarber? What was he, pick # 4?
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 08:55 AM) Hi old white male person. So now our sanctimonious cynic makes disparaging commentary about old people, white people, and men. What higher moral ground did you come from? What did you do for kicks today, Southsider? Set fire to a police car? Throw some rocks? Complain about whatever it is that people like you complain about? Maybe you gave the finger to a policeman after he could no longer see you? Organize some protest march? Or maybe just follow along and join one?
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 09:06 PM) Hey Donald Trump could become a great President too, but I am not holding my breath for that moment either. Sounds like you had a few cocktails before you hit the "Send" button, Southsider? Been reading a few liberal rags lately? Keep posting your political nonsense so we can all see how sanctimonious you are.
  15. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 12:36 PM) Wonder what the Red Sox would have offered for Sale had this happened before the Sale trade. Anyways what do the Red Sox even have to offer? Devers, Groome, then what? Bobby Dalbec. Don't know why Hahn didn't try to get him included in the Sale trade.
  16. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Mar 1, 2017 -> 08:19 PM) The make or break Avi year was last season at the latest and he broke. If he's suddenly good this year, he's going elsewhere via trade. Correct. He was given every chance in 2016.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 1, 2017 -> 02:51 PM) Normally you would be 100% correct here, but I'm thinking there may be something to this. They didn't spend much of the LaRoche money. Shields?
  18. QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 08:40 AM) Houston drafted #1 Mark Appel/Stanford in 2013 followed by Bryant #2. 2014 was Brady Aiken. Also Appel bonus was more than Bryant that year. You must be getting your information from Donald Trump. WTF?
  19. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 02:21 PM) Teams that are going for it make trades in large measure based on what they need to have. The greater and more imminent that need is, the more they will give up in return. If the Nat's relief core starts blowing games they may have to cough up Robles for a reliever or relievers. Well OK, Robertson plus Nate Jones won't be enough to get Robles, but if the Nats get desperate for a Closer, they are going to have to unload talent to some team at some point, especially if they want a Closer that is ranked higher than Robertson. It's their problem, not Rick Hahn's. He already schtooped them. If they want it again, call Rick. One of my new favorite words.......
  20. QUOTE (daa84 @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 12:17 PM) no, everything you said is totally fair and accurate. one thing to remember too is that Beer was really a HS senior when he put up those ridiculous numbers. Also, i have no idea what kind of athlete he is, but just by body type, i'm guessing beer could probably learn to play a corner OF spot too, whereas a guy like alvarez was destined for 1b eventually. Certainly a lot of ppl projected Kris Bryant to be 1b and who knows, maybe thats why Houston passed on him. No, Houston passed on Bryant because they are STUPID, and they wanted to draft a high school pitcher so they could sign him for a lower bonus than Bryant would require.
  21. Minnie captivated me when he joined the Sox in 1951. I was pretty young, but old enough to know we had something special. I still use his name on various passwords.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 20, 2017 -> 10:10 AM) I would take the over on wins for most of the teams mentioned. Reds will be better this year than last, so will Brewers. My sneaky pick for worst team would probably be the Marlins, they are a good candidate for star heavy team that injuries would destroy because they have no depth. Padres though, I'm just talking myself into them being better and good enough to lose 1st overall. AJ Preller doesn't deserve nice things. Like Tatis, Jr.
  23. I'm surrounded by Seinfeld fans. And he was a Met fan.
  24. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 06:30 PM) For me, it's not that I'm not interested at all. I said it's the least interested I have been in the Sox, maybe ever. I'm 26. I've watched on average probably 135 games a year (maybe more, but can't watch day games at work), since I was in high school. I'm obsesssed. But I've always liked that the Sox have tried to win every year, even though it hasn't worked. Generally they've been fairly competitive each year since 03, with a few outliers. I fully understand that the rebuild is necessary, and I'm behind it, but it sucks that it's Feb 15 and I already know the Sox aren't going to relevant at all this season. I'll still watch a bunch of games and root for the Sox to win until it's obvious that they're terrible - that shouldn't take long - but it's just different. Therefore, it's the least interested I've been in awhile. Baseball is how I spend my summers - I don't expect that to change this summer, but it's deflating knowing there is zero chance of playing in October. Trust me on this: It will get better. When you're my age (kickin 80) you should be down to 120 or so per year. Naps will prevail.
  25. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 12, 2017 -> 06:34 PM) He declined trades every time with his NTC. They were going to release him so they just paid most of the deal and took 2 fringe prospects. He's from Atlanta. Phillips f***ed the Reds over for like 1.5 years. Why did the stupid Cincy GM (at the time) give Phillips a NTC in the first place? What was he gonna do, sign with Pittsburgh? The GM fraternity must be the most overpaid group of morons in the country.
