  1. QUOTE (Donaldo @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 08:24 PM) I'm looking forward to seeing a full season of Jacob Cooper. Who is he?
  2. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 05:50 PM) The only thing I've gotten from this thread today is that southsider2k5 is a whiny baby who is complaining for the sake of complaining. Oh, oh.
  3. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 04:15 PM) "Our" Luis Alexander Basabe is the much better prospect than his brother. I heard Jim Callis tell a story that when the Diamondbacks traded Ziegler to the Red Sox last year, they accidentally asked for Alejandro when they actually wanted Alexander. Normally I'd say thats unbelievable, but this is Dave Stewart we are talking about... Reminds me of KW's Berry/Barry trade.
  4. I'm sure a lot of you guys are more familiar with NYY prospects than I am. but I look at the minor league stats of their top guys, and the stats don't jump out at me, other than Rutherford. Yes, I know stats are not everything, but still, someone indulge me and tell me what is so hot about Torres and Andujar.
  5. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Dec 26, 2016 -> 05:19 PM) What makes you think Hahn isn't being reasonable? There's zero reason to think this given the deals already made. Same guy who traded a pretty good, very young prospect (Tatis) for an expensive, over the hill pitcher (Shields) about five months ago. I'm still shaking my head over that one.
  6. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 25, 2016 -> 01:53 PM) I think it shows more understanding of what's going on. Look at the buzz that began after one tweet from Olney on the 21st that mentions the Pirates being interested in Q. That's not to say the Pirates aren't interested in Q or that Olney was wrong in his tweet, just that maybe we shouldnt put too much stock into what we read on the internet. Rumors are fun but they are rumors afterall. I also agree with waiting to deal Q until July IF Hahn is not getting his asking price now. Will that entail a brand new thread next July, or a continuation of this one?
  7. [quote name=Dick Allen' post='3466001' date='Dec 24, 2016 -> 04:03 PM]There is no reason the White Sox should take on money. If they had to get rid of him and the Pirates were the only option, then maybe, but not now. You wouldn't sell your house at a discount to the first person who looked at it because you want to fit it in their budget. The White Sox leak about as little information as any team in baseball. Trade talk with Q would eventually become a huge distraction, if it carried on into the season. That could really effect his performance and value, so IMO, they must be of the belief something is going to happen pretty soon leaking this 3 team stuff. weak analogy.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 11:00 AM) Okay, you have to include Glasnow, so pick the other 3: Mitch Keller, Blake Rutherford, Kevin Newman, Miguel Andujar & Elias Diaz. Rest is Glasnow, Andjuhar, Diaz Andujar keeps showing up now. How does he compare to Trey M? Same age, Trey played at AA. I don't see a big difference, course I know little about Andujar.
  9. Rick Hahn must be the happiest person on the planet -- right now!!
  10. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 01:17 PM) Right, but again, people don't make decisions based on need in Colorado. It's all random. They worship chaos and entropy. One of my friends and I were imagining what board meetings are actually like there. His hypothesis is that they have a tank of manatees in the center of the conference room, and that they throw colored balls in and make decisions based on which balls the manatees push toward the front of the tank. "Ohh that's blue, that means Ian Desmond! Ohh it looks like.. wait... oh FIRST BASE! Wow, that was unexpected. Welp, let's see what we're going to offer... Ohh Ten, NO, SEVENTY MILLION! Haha fun! Call his agent" Funny. Rox FO might be gun shy after the Tulo trade blew up in their face. Media was surprisingly gentle with them, however. I wonder if Sox and Rox GM's knew each other in college since both went to Harvard. Secret handshake at least.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 10:16 AM) I could have sworn there was a tweet recently that said they had no intention of trading Meadows because he is the heir apparent to Cutch That was from me. Yesterday afternoon we googled "possible trade Quintana Pirates" and several articles came up. I think the one I referenced was from Ian Brown of MLB. Not positive. Anyway, it said Pitt was reluctant to trade Meadows because McCutch might go somewhere.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 08:56 AM) If Meadows is untouchable then I can't see how them doing any deal for Quintana makes sense until they know what can happen with McCutchen.because of If the Pirates are reluctant to part with Meadows because of questions about McCutch, then offer to throw in May or Engel or Tilson.
  13. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 10:44 PM) Looking at the month of September over the last two seasons, in '16 ERA 4.35 , in '15 ERA 4.34. Sale has been fading down the stretch which doesn't bode well heading into the playoffs. This is one of the reasons I had preferred to keep Q over Sale. I don't mean to kick anyone's puppy but if Sale continues fading in September, he may end up pitching more like David Price in the playoffs. I have been thinking the same thing. Thanks for saying it.
  14. This is the first prospect list I have seen without the name Courtney Hawkins on it since when?? 2012?
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 03:59 PM) Where did you hear this? Had lunch with some buds, and one googled the Pirates, showed me his phone. That's what it said, not the best source, I know. Still, it makes sense.
  16. I heard that Meadows is unavailable, because they still expect to trade McCutchen, and Meadows would be the heir apparent.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 10:04 PM) Things like this are where people take stats a little too literally. Sure he put up a .685 OPS. He did it at age 21 in High A ball, where he was nearly two years under the league average age. He struck out at a pretty low rate. He has insane speed. He has average power to go along with plus tools across the rest of the board. Your guy Mateo vs Rodgers from Rockies? Who do you like? Rodgers is a year younger who played a level lower and clearly out-hit Mateo. I would jump on Rodgers like a tall dog. If Q goes, Sox are likely to get one of these kids in return.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 12:53 PM) He's wrestled with injuries too. He had thoracic outlet syndrome, had a rib removed (that he kept in his locker). Pretty impressive for a 36th rounder with that kind of issue to even make it as far as he did. Is that what derailed Montas, too? I know he had a rib removed early this year.
  19. How will Tatis do in A Ball for Padres?
  20. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 06:18 PM) Moncada put up wRC+ in the 150s range at both A+ & AA. That is the definition of results. If people want to overreact to a handful of major league at-bats (when he had no business being up in the first place) more power to them. Well said.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 17, 2016 -> 09:54 PM) Danks for McCarthy happened between XMas and New Year's as well Danks and McCarthy. If you ask a typical White Sox fan which of these two was the most overpaid, most would say Danks. But, McCarthy is right up there with him. Both had career earnings of around $70 MM. Danks won around 75 games or so, McCarthy under 60. Either way, it's another testimonial to the wisdom of GM's everywhere.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 05:46 PM) I don't know if this was obvious to everyone else but I don't remember if we had really concluded it after it was announced: I was listening to Garfein's podcast (I think) and their interview with Hahn he was talking to the offseason and (paraphrased) I told people that they would know our direction based off of our first move and then people went "What does signing Liriano mean?". But part of this was the coaching staff shakeup and moving a player development guy in Capra down to 3b coach so we have more developers in our staff". This was another moment where I felt my confidence in Hahn rising. Regardless if Capra is the top person for that job, this is what you WOULD do if you had a plan to acquire a bunch of young talent and needed to develop. So yes, our coaches are going to try and make our players better, and will also try to make HOlland better. I just hope that we don't have to listen to any of his Harry Carry imitations like the one he did during the playoffs a few years ago. Talk about bad TV!!
  23. Good thing for the Sox that there is no salary cap. In other sports, when there is a salary cap, there is a salary floor. If there were a floor here, Sox would probably be under it in 2017, and 2018 as well.
  24. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 04:15 PM) he's paid fairly enough to take it. That said, no, he didn't deserve it. He is a scapegoat for the orgs failure. He busted his ass to come back ahead of schedule from the injury. It's not his fault that when he was acquired the FO apparently didn't realize he has zero pitch recognition skills or ability to track a baseball in flight. Slight exaggeration here. He has his flaws, but is still a legitimate MLBPer, just not as good as we all had hoped when we got him. Too many posters here treat him as if he were some hobo off the street corner.
