What are the Sox plans for this guy? Coats certainly put up the right numbers at Charlotte last season. .330/.394/.519/.912. Those are better numbers that the outfield prospects we are looking at put up. Yes, roughly half a season at Charlotte. Still, Coats has hit well at every stop in minors. Plus he can play defense and run a little bit. If Melky goes to DH and Avi goes away, there should be a spot for him in 2017. Hope we don't trade him without giving him a real opportunity.

How does anyone come up with a stat for pitch framing? -
Charlotte Knights Third Basemen since 2006 - an anthology

Who said White Sox can't develop position players? Who's on Third in Charlotte in '17? Peters, Delmonico, Trey M? I enjoyed the article, Julie. -
QUOTE (Username @ Nov 16, 2016 -> 05:54 PM) Two Questions for those of you that know better than I do: 1) What happens to moves after Friday? i.e. if a guy is on the 40 man by Friday, can he be moved back off before the draft without losing protection? 2) Is it possible that the Friday deadline is holding up potential Sox (or other team) moves? If we were to complete a trade and begin accumulating prospects before Friday, I assume some may need to be protected, correct? No. It's possible. Depends on the time served for the prospects we would get. Just part of the equation.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 16, 2016 -> 05:07 PM) Can you guys imagine the meltdown that will happen here if Sale isn't traded this offseason or if someone like Gray or Archer are dealt for a haul? This would not surprise me one bit.

Braves among teams showing interest in chris sale

QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 09:23 PM) Sorry, I know it's not a popular opinion, but I'm just not a fan of Inciarte. I think he is one of those guys that the metrics love but just isn't actually worth what the imperfect metrics say. If we're dealing with Atlanta I want Swanson, Maitan, and some pitching. Not really interested in Inciarte. Agree. -
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 09:25 PM) Listening to a CSN podcast with Bob Nightengale. Chuck Garfein asked about the trade being done before, during or after the Winter Meetings and he said after. He also asked a percentage of the chances it happens and he said 75%. https://audioboom.com/posts/5289197-ep-7-te...-for-chris-sale Old people don't want to wait that long. Get it done, Hahn.

QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 08:13 PM) Urias, Verdugo, Bellinger, Lux, Barnes, and Alvarez. I would do that in a heartbeat. Alvarez one highest ceiling pitchers in all of minors PP34, how do you think that quintet compares to Bosox package led by either Benintendi or Moncada with Devers, Swihart, and Kopech on the side?

Frazier to LA makes more sense after Justin Turner turned down his QO for $17.2 Large.

QUOTE (Scoots @ Nov 11, 2016 -> 06:38 PM) I actually remember Frazier saying once in a conversation this year he specifically said he wants to stay in Chicago, whether that means rebuilding or not. I remember him specifically saying that, and I hope he does. He said that way back in Spring Training. Just goo-goo journalism. Means nothing.
-
QUOTE (Tony @ Nov 11, 2016 -> 09:47 AM) Yeah, that's exactly what a rebuilding team should be interested in. Relievers. In terms of Frazier, unless someone is willing to overpay, I'd be alright with an extension. If they go full rebuild, every position can't be a 23 year old. It doesn't work that way. Over his career Frazier has always been known to be a leader, solid in the clubhouse and can be used effectively in marketing materials (I know that isn't that important, but it does play a minor role). Given Frazier value on the market, how much an extension would cost, a 3 year deal would be fine, if he was open to sticking around during a rebuild. If we can pry Devers away from Bosox, Frazier won't be around for 3 years.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 02:51 PM) Amado Nunez. Possibly Adam Engel or Micker Adolfo. As I said, not a BIG gap there for me. You gotta be kidding me. Micker isn't close to those guys (Fisher and Call).

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 03:05 PM) I'd do Sale and Jones for: Urias, Bellinger, Verdugo, Calhoun, and Lux in a heartbeat. Dodgers probably wouldn't though. No Puig?

It's always fun to read about the younger players in the farm system, and just about every one mentioned here was signed/drafted in either 2015 or 16. The fact remains that the four full season minor league teams were a combined 100++ games under .500, which probably had a lot to do with a newcomer getting hired to replace Capra at the head of the farm system. 2017 should be better.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Nov 6, 2016 -> 06:03 PM) Yes. You are talking about a pro baseball player with a bad back. Remember Joe Crede? I had a bulging disc in my lower back five years ago and I was in a cast from my shoulders to my groin for six weeks. (I could remove it for showering though!). I'm not a pro athlete either and it was difficult. A herniated disc is much worse than a bulging disc. The next step with a disc if it doesn't respond to injections or treatment is surgery. And the Sox have been very quiet about this...no news, no updates. Mark Furcal had the same problem and had surgery and came back. Todd Helton similar injury at same time, and he tried to rehab it at first -- unsuccessfully. Surgery works, usually. Still, he (Saladino) is in danger of being finished. Hope not.

2016-2017 Off-season Plans (extensive)

QUOTE (beautox @ Nov 4, 2016 -> 01:14 PM) Didn't know that, Holiday is another great example just a vet that could possibly be flipped and mentor the young core. And, we could watch him strike out all season long. -
Hawkins still listed at #14 on its Top Prospect List. Can't remember where SoxTalk had him in the last list. Probably about the same.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 05:51 PM) Rumor was Sox were gonna take Stroman and had a deal in place. Rockies took Dahl instead of Hawkins and changed everything What was the proposed deal? Do you mean drafting Stroman?

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 11:21 PM) I still have this bad feeling about Collins. How about Trey M?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 30, 2016 -> 09:58 AM) H is big everywhere because of cross over addiction from Oxycotin. Are you an expert on this subject, Southsider? I doubt it.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 30, 2016 -> 12:33 PM) Yeah, because you demand more proof from a baseball team than you do a Presidential candidate. WTF? Do you have to use your position at SoxTalk to spread your own political opinion? What exactly are you advocating here?
-
Not if Tatis surfaces as a legitimate prospect in then next two years. I still don't get how Hahn got talked into that one.
-
I don't know if Sox ever offered Fowler a contract last off season, but if they had, and if it were accepted, then Sox lose the draft pick that turned out to be Burdi. No question that Fowler would have made the Sox better in 2016.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 23, 2016 -> 12:57 AM) Sale or Quintana sure are looking good to the Dodgers right about now. Not sure what the Dodgers have to give up for a guy like Sale. Seager is unavailable, probably Pederson, too. Puig is not nearly enough.
-
QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Oct 22, 2016 -> 08:16 AM) While I agree that it would be moronic to trust the mouthbreathers in the Front office to strike a decent deal for any of the team's assets, the problems go deeper than "just" in scouting and devlopment. Funny
