  1. Bosox got Pomerantz from Padres. No word on who they gave up. Bet it's less than what Hahn gave. We'll know soon.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 04:51 PM) He is going to Winston Salem tomorrow. Just now saw your post on the other thread. I should have read them in different order.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 10:11 AM) I wouldn't be surprised to see Alfaro called state side very soon. Sox AZL team has four catchers on the roster now, including Zach Collins.
  4. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 12, 2016 -> 11:06 PM) I realize that the quality of the minor league teams does not reflect the quality of the prospects (teams at all levels, both Sox and others, are replete with org. guys of various sorts). But man this is one collection of sorry minor league teams. Only Great Falls shows any competence as a team; most are dreadful. Slight exaggeration, but I see your point. Exception would be Charlotte, of all teams. There have been several call ups/injuries. Davidson, Kev Smith, Anderson, Sanchez, several pitchers. Hayes hurt twice, etc.
  5. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jul 12, 2016 -> 09:43 AM) Pitching wins don't matter. Ever. Separate pitching performance from pitching wins. Sure they do, especially for a SP.
  6. QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 12, 2016 -> 10:29 AM) I don't see the Semien/Micah/Sanchez pileup and Timmy as that closely related. Despite the plan clearly being to move Anderson along quickly, we still went and acquired a 2B who ultimately isn't as good as Semien. I think we'd be a better team with Semien instead of Lawrie, especially when you factor in years of control. We'll see if Ynoa and Burdi can bridge the gap. Don't hold your breath.
  7. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 12, 2016 -> 08:22 AM) Is Nick Basto a real spec? 22 yo w/ a .292/.364/.446 line in 305 ABs this season between A+ and AA. Anyone have any idea if the Sox plan to keep playing Engel in AA this season? Would be nice to see him move up and maybe have a shot to win that CF position next season. His defense next to Eaton's would be pretty nasty. Looking ahead to 2017, Jackson likely to be gone, and Shuck is not a long term answer in CF, so Sox will probably at least take a look at both Engel and May. Engel's promo a possibility. Not sure who Sox like best, May or Engel. Of course, they could always move Eaton back to CF next year.
  8. Looking back at some of the stats a few signees compiled in college, I'm really surprised that they lasted so long. First example is Call. Drafted #86 overall. With his performance in college, I can't believe there were 85 better prospects. Same with Booker, Round 22, overall # in the 650's. Fisher, 4th Round, same thing. Anyway, I'm glad Sox got them and look forward to seeing them progress.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 07:58 AM) I don't think I'd say Cruz is struggling. He's a 20-year old with a reasonable K-rate, drawing a few walks, and showing some power in a stadium that is not conducive to it. He's a couple years younger than the average player in that league. If you want to look at core stats, his OPS went up by about a hundred points each month from April to May to June, so he's improving. And this while playing shortstop. I'd say he's doing pretty darn well. Rodriguez yes, he's struggling a bit. I watched him play a couple games recently - he's quite raw, but there's a ton of athleticism there. He's 21, still young for the SAL too. Thanks, always enjoy your comments.
  10. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 06:00 PM) Jorge Soler - $30M Gerardo Concepcion - $7M Who is Concepcion? Can't remember who he is.
  11. One of the best pieces from Sox Talk since I got here in circa 2002-3.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 11:33 AM) I would be curious to see the details of those other teams leases. And then you can figure it out?
  13. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 03:03 PM) The high profile exposure of being an All Star certainly couldn't hurt his trade value at the end of the month. What is his trade value?
  14. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 9, 2016 -> 07:23 AM) Can cross Ziegler off the most. Boston picked him up last night for a couple A ballers. That ain't gonna happen until JR is gone. Time to face reality. Dbacks do some things I don't understand. Boston gave up very little.

    Rick Hahn

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 8, 2016 -> 02:11 PM) Its funny that you have all of these hindsight opinions when the only thing you were worried about when he was signed was who was getting dropped from the roster. Not much about this profound lack of good baseball judgement a year ago Wrong. I did not like the Bonafacio signing from day one. Why are we talking about it? Because I mentioned that he was DFA'd this week.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 8, 2016 -> 10:50 AM) Before the draft (and these lists, I think, don't include the draftees), with Anderson no longer eligible, the system is pretty rough. Not hopeless - seeing a nice spike from some key LatAm names for example. The new draft is huge. There will probably 4 2016 draftees among the top 10 in the Sox system on our upcoming Midseason list, though that could go up or down by one. I assume you mean Amado Nunez. Are there others? Cruz and Rodriquez are struggling at low A.
  17. Tampa. Talk about a franchise in deep doo doo.

    Rick Hahn

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 8, 2016 -> 10:17 AM) How does a 1 year, $3 million signing qualify as one of the worst? I mean I get the guy sucked at all, but it had so little impact on the franchise he was released long before the end of the season. It was just an expression, Southsider. That's all. Sure, Hahn made worse moves that had a greater negative impact. Jeez, you take everything so literally. Maybe I should have said one of the worst moves of that year? That is probably more accurate. Still, it was a lousy signing, doomed from the start, a waste of $3 Million bucks and a roster spot for a guy who had no business on this team. In summary, the signing of Emilio showed a profound lack of good baseball judgment. I saw that the Braves DFA'd him , so I mentioned it here in a very minor post, and you make a federal case out of it.
  19. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 7, 2016 -> 09:56 PM) Danish is getting his head handed to him. But he's only 21...maybe a return to Birmingham is in order. He sure didn't have any confidence in his stuff when he was with the Sox.
  20. Now Cargo is saying he did not make the statement about wanting to be traded.
  21. Rockies would really like to bring up David Dahl from minors. Drafted same years as Courtney Hawkins, I believe, but a much better prospect. They need to move Cargo to make room. I don't think the price would be as high as others think.

    Rick Hahn

Not to change the subject, but the subject of one of Hahn's worst moves -- the acquisition of Emilio Bonafacio, surfaced yesterday as Emilio was DFA'd by Braves.
  23. Both Desmond and Murphy would have cost that draft pick, as would have Fowler. Hahn just was not going to give it up, right or wrong. Trumbo had a so-so 2015, striking out a lot.
  24. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 30, 2016 -> 05:42 PM) I'm aware. Hence why I knew it wasn't him - just knew they were similar players and he name was escaping me. I know that feeling.
