QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 04:21 PM) The original trade talk I saw centered around the Sox being asked for Tim Anderson. Now I am not going to claim to know how the discussion went, nor will I claim to know what other teams were willing to offer, but $10 million a year for what Shields can do on the mound is dirt cheap. Compare that to what other free agent starters got this off season. When people claim that the inclusion of Tatis was "unnecessary", seem to have some sort of difinitive proof of both what other offers were on the table, and what else that San Diego had been asking for to make the conclusion that Tatis was not needed to get a deal done. Finally let's be honest. Tatis was a guy who wasn't in the Top 30 coming out of Latin America, and he wasn't in the White Sox top 30 prospects in a system that at best has been top heavy with quick movers, in a system that lacks depth. Tatis wasn't even the Sox top signing in the season coming out of Latin America. Tatis is somewhere around a half of a decade, at best, away from having a chance at being a major league baseball player. If you have to give up a guy with those credentials to get a major league starting pitcher, I think most teams make that deal. So while Tatis's value has gone up with Sox fans simply because he got traded, let's not exaggerate who we gave up either. He is a long term lottery ticket, who has a lot of value in his family name. Once again, Southsider, you are wrong. Argumentative, as usual, but still wrong. You talk about Anderson, implying how astute Hahn was not to trade Tim Anderson? Give me a break. Preller's negotiating ploy was to drop Anderson's name, knowing it will be quickly refused. Then he goes down the food chain and comes up with Tatis, and Hahn started rubbing Preller's leg. Shields is not dirt cheap. Nice metaphor. No one else was trying to trade for the innings eater. At any price. And you think because Tatis was not in Sox Top 30 list, he is automatically expendable for Shields? Using your words, Let's be honest. He is 17, just signed 2-4 months ago, and never played stateside at time of this horrible trade. How could he possibly be in Top 30? Preller is chirping in San Diego

He can't be that bad after what he accomplished in high minors. Probably pressing. He'll get sent down and who knows, might get it together and be a solid player. -
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 09:25 PM) Sure he can. No one's giving an A prospect for the Bruces or, egads, Brauns of the world. If the other team offers 2 Bs, Hahn will gladly deal 3 and throw in an A ball prospect for lagniappe. He's proven his willingness to do that before. He did it in the Shields trade that should have been nothing but a salary dump. And of course most of those orgs have 10-15 B prospects...the Sox have 5 - maybe. My hope, of course, is that Rick Hahn spares us any more of his trading acumen and talent evaluation skills. Do us no "favors", please Rick. Oh, and I see that Marcus Semien just jacked a 3 run homer against Rick's main man Samardzija. Right on, GreenSox. I made a similar comment in Future Sox. Giving up Tatis in the Shields trade was either lunacy or a sign of weakness, or both. Pads wanted to get rid of that guy no matter what; should have been salary dump as you said. Okay we give up Johnson. I see no need to have given up Tatis, whether he succeeds or not. But San Diego wanted Tatis, and Hahn says okay. What was the San Diego GM gonna do, walk away? Stupid, just plain stupid to include him in that trade.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 08:22 PM) Fernando Tatis Jr homered against the AZL White Sox Maybe someday we will find out how Hahn got out-negotiated/swindled when he gave up Tatis for our innings eater Shields. I know it's early, I know. I just wish I could have heard the dialogue between the two GM's. One would think that taking Shields off the Padre's hands would have been enough along with Johnson, but no. They wanted Tatis also, and they got him, and we got a $27 Million liability.

QUOTE (ronkark @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 01:36 AM) TG for Chris Sale. 13 wins - wow. Pen in shambles. Reinforcements needed. Assume Burdi at some point but he's gotta prove it in minors a bit so that remains to be seen. Before the season everyone assumed Fulmer an option. Wish it were so. Good game today but he's got at least a month of good play needed before even on radar. Need 2-3 arms. Here's a thought. All would agree Tyler is our most competent backup. So put Frazier at first and DH Abreu. Play Tyler at 3rd. Abreu is a minus defender. Frazier is average at 3rd but he for sure is better than Abreu at first. And Saladino is an upgrade at 3rd and a better bat than Shuck. It makes too much sense. How do you know Frazier is better 1B than Abreu? -
Curbelo 2 more hits and 2 walks.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 25, 2016 -> 03:55 PM) Wasn't there a game a few weeks ago where they set the record for biggest number of solo HR in a single game? Rockies beat someone 5-3. Every run in game was scored on a solo HR. Total 8. Previous record was 5, I believe. -

That's about the third time I have seen him very reluctant to advance on ground out. Gotta trust that speed. -
Watching the game on baseball package today, the Boston announcers were talking openly of the prospect of our Sox trading one of the dynamic duo.
-
QUOTE (kingranch @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 04:54 AM) Surprised no mention of Burdi yet: AZL White Sox: 1.0 IP 1H 0ER 1K Heard fastball 99-100 and change 90-92. Got the K on a slider Nice debut. Tatis, Jr. also made his pro debut for AZL Pads, going 0 for 5 at shortstop.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 08:44 AM) Giving him facts is a complete waste of time. It is like talking to a Trump voter. Are you turning SoxTalk into your own political sideshow?

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 06:47 AM) Another must win with Shields on the mound tomorrow. Hopefully the offense can score more than one run for Quintana today. Rain predicted Thursday. -
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 10:05 PM) ... really? Okay, so tell me.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 04:38 PM) FutureSox @FutureSox Eddy Alvarez by month: April: .145/.241/.174, 9:16 BB:K May: .227/.276/.268, 7:17 BB:K June: .348/.464/.478, 10:6 BB:K I wonder why Eddy was so bad in April? Doesn't make sense.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 05:14 PM) The last big signing, Adolfo...has kind of faded away from view. We don't even hear about him being considered for the Top 10 list anymore. Yes, it's a "lottery ticket" mechanism, and you hope that maybe 1 out of 20/25 turn into MLB All-Stars. Not sure if the ROI is there, not for small and middle market teams (unless their scouting is just top notch and their miss rate is lower). Most of you guys still have Adolfo on your top 10 lists, which blows my mind.

I vote for Caulfield on this one. Why should Scrubs extend Russell, Bryant, Schwarber now? Caulfield all the way.

Robin actually looked like a Manager when he went out to mound after Robertson walked Ortiz. Looked like a leader.

We owe it all to SoxPride18. -
Speaking of Moncada, who I would love to get, the Bosox sunk something like $64 Million into his signing; that would probably make them offer somebody else. The author of that article should interview Dombrowski and report back.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 19, 2016 -> 04:22 PM) So is Max Dutto now over Johan Cruz in Kanny? If so, I don't get that. Cruz is on the 7 Day DL at Kanny.
-
Castillo optioned to AAA by Bosox. They are still paying him; no team wanted him at that price. Makes one think that maybe some of these Cuban FA's are over rated/over priced.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 19, 2016 -> 01:47 PM) Frazier is bailing on every pitch. Has no chance to do damage Definitely struggling. Looks hopeless, kinda like he looked at the end of last year with Cinci. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 19, 2016 -> 01:33 PM) I'm at the stage of apathy/laughter at how bad this team is. I've definitely stopped watching the standings. One caveat however. I get very upset for a few seconds when they lose again to a Central Division team, especially the Royals. I calm down in about a minute when I realize it is what it is. Other than that I realize we don't have the team and just laugh/accept how embarrassingly bad they are. I don't really have any favorite players except Anderson maybe, hoping he clicks. And of course Q and Sale. I despise all our relievers except Robertson. I'm OK with Frazier, like Anderson, don't like Lawrie, feel bad that Abreu isn't better, don't like Avi, apathetic toward Eaton, don't like Melky, don't like either catcher, don't like Shuck. Again as far as laughter, this Shields thing is priceless. I mean this guy is arguably the worst pitcher in baseball and the Sox felt they had to pay what, 27 mill of his salary? Just crazy. "without question"

Charlotte lost 5-4. Scott Carroll started, lost. Birmingham won 3-2. Holmberg allowed just 2 hits in 7 innings W-S lost 4-2. Kanny lost 9-1. Great Falls lost. Zangari got first HR in GF uniform. Both Call and Fisher have hits in both games.
