QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 25, 2016 -> 08:55 PM) Is batting average the only stat you care about? And I'm not sure an unsustainable AAA batting average really means much when said player has no plate discipline, is a horrible defender, & a dumb base runner. Nope. I look at the same stats you do, right out of Baseball Reference. It's the only one I quoted in a very short post. The fact is, he hit well in minors, and these flaws you mentioned probably were not as apparent then as they are now after the 2015 season. I'm not so sure bad scouting made the difference you and others think it did. Having a bad post-trade shoulder injury and being post-trade overweight might make a difference. That's all.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 25, 2016 -> 08:43 PM) I think he needs to come to spring training weighing at least 25 lbs. less . Agreed.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 25, 2016 -> 04:48 PM) The bat is not the problem with him actually. The guy is a terrible fielder and somehow the the dumbest base runner I have ever seen. Those inabilities on the baseball field carry over to the batter's box where he has no ability to recognize a pitch, despite Hawk thinking he was the greatest hitter of all time at doing something...I think it was hitting a pitch you should never swing at and hitting it to RF. This was a massive failure by White Sox scouting. Was it? Jeez, the guy hit .370ish in two separate AAA stints. I'm sure the shoulder injury had long term effect. We'll see.

You guys are right about the herniated disc being a deal killer. In recent years, two well known players had surgery for this, Todd Helton and Rafael Furcal, but they were never the same, and they had a ton of therapy. Seems like there was a third player, can't remember his name. Can't give up anything of value. Has Braun had the surgery?

QUOTE (HBaines03 @ Jan 24, 2016 -> 05:59 PM) I've heard a lot of outfield options for some time now and I read a story today where the Sox maybe exploring trading top prospects to get the power outfielder they want (pictured Carlos Gonzalez). I'm not interested in needing to give up top talent for an outfielder so I wanted to ask a question. Do the Sox look at Ryan Braun as an option? He has power, OBP, still some speed and can play RF. His contract is not the best as it is 20M next 3 seasons and a 5 yr commit before opt out. My thought is he might be able to be had for lower level talent. Milwaukee has an overload of OF's and he is talked about as a trade possibility. I'm not promoting this, just asking the question to see what others think. Thanks I never heard what Brewers would want for Braun. No one seems too interested in him, it seems. Interesting thought, tho.

QUOTE (Saufley @ Jan 24, 2016 -> 06:49 PM) In what publication was the story? Purple Row had one a week or so ago; very speculative, tho.

L. Ron taught me something, I think. Avi came back from injury with a different swing -- the hitch. It explains why his hitting went South. He was a much better hitter before the injury. Lets hope he is back to normal.

I'm sure Hawk likes it. He loved Albers last year.

I can see it now. Cespedes signs with either Yanks or Nats, and then that team will come to Sox to solve their dilemma; that is, take an aging, overpaid, excess outfielder off their hands for prospects. If it's the Nats, they need to get rid of Jayson Werth. If it's the Yanks, Gardner must go. Enter RH.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 05:08 PM) The Sox should consider claiming the OF the Rockies just waived. Not a very good hitter. Good athlete. No where near the player Trayce was/is. Shuck much better, also.

The Top 30 White Sox Prospects, Preseason 2016
oldsox replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 03:58 PM) Thanks for the great work as usual. If you had to only pick one, which Sox prospect do you think increases his stock the most in 2016? For me, Matt Cooper. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 03:28 PM) The funny thing is, outside the top 3, the systems looks upside down right now. You've got high floor guys in the back of the T10 and to the teens, then a lot of low floor but potentially high ceiling youngsters from the teens on. At least for me anyway. Me too, which means that 2016 should be one of the most interesting farm system years since Sox Talk was created.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 02:43 AM) $5.3 mil for reed LOL. Reed pitched well for Mets, until the last inning of the WS, when he came apart like a 29 cent mop. A 7th inning set-up man in NL is where he belongs. Still, $5.3 seems like an overpay.

Rienzo Designated for Assignment by Marlins

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 12:34 PM) His ex girlfriend might need to move far away from Chicago if he comes back. Can't remember the story...... -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 03:02 PM) He's pretty bad at 1B as it is. Scouting reports we got say as much, even Capra has said it (in a more elegant way). He made 15 errors in 50 games at first base. That's... sub-optimal. He's young and can improve there, but stretching him to the outfield or third base would probably be a disaster. He's 18. How many ground balls and throws in the dirt will he take in next 3 years? How good were guys like Konerko and Thome at fielding when they were 18? In order to improve a lot, you need lots of room for improvement. If he hits this year, he will be a great prospect.

McAnany came up in 1959 and sort of platooned with Jim Rivera in RF. I remember he hit over .400 in minors - probably 1958.
-
If he pitches decently, it's more likely he gets traded in July.

QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 02:39 PM) Barry "I don't sign for white people" Bonds? I had forgotten that snippet from Barry's past. Never understood it, because he married white chicks and certainly had a bunch of white friends along the way. Still, he said it. One thing I've never understood, why don't more hitters try to emulate Bonds' approach at the plate: choke up, stand still, don't walk around the plate after every pitch, bat speed, achieve a genuine understanding of the strike zone, etc. Man, I loved to watch him hit.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 08:00 AM) Agreed. I love the message that some drugs are better than others and being a racist gets you rewarded. The baseball hall of fame should definitely be about sending a message! What? Who?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 31, 2015 -> 03:34 PM) What would you expect him to say at a Cubs news conference? Do players say I really wish I wasn't taking this $184 million? "I like the public school system in Chicago."

QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 07:11 AM) i am not saying yes or no to what you are stating. i am asking if this is like the bryce harper situation, where he graduated early so he can get drafted??? my my memory is faulty, wasn't there something about that, with him?? i am not too sure of the whole events and how it was finally solved. but in ref to that second site being a site to be taken serious. maybe..... but all it does it add to the reading of more prospects and seeing how it develops. just good reading material, for those who likes to follow the draft. no offense. My memory of the Harper situation is that he did graduate high school early, not to get drafted earlier, but to get into a Junior College program and thus better competition for what would have been his senior year in H.S. His draft date did not change.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 08:20 PM) Sign Gordon, trade Adams, Avi and Danish for Cargo too much. price for Cargo has to have come down.
-
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 07:13 PM) Ya this is the conundrum I'm trying to figure out. Seems like they are trying to replace avi cause he's not living up to expectations. Getting gordon doesn't fix that. It upgrades leftfield but now leave Melky without a spot. He hasn't played RF in a couple years. If Laroche is traded then Melky cam go to DH but that still leaves avi in right. Upton hasn't played significant time in rf since 2012. Cespedes I can't find him having played other position then CF and LF. I think he could maybe handle RF ok. So if the are truly on gordon I don't know what they are going to do. Only other thought is getting gordon, then many trying to trade for cargo. Could use Laroche, avi and spects to get cargo then play gordon in left with Melky going to dh. Not fully understanding everything. I think you do.
