  1. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 13, 2015 -> 07:34 PM) Beckham's bat looks quicker this year for whatever reason. Maybe he's just fresher off the bench. Cuz he got married.
  2. QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 13, 2015 -> 06:23 PM) What does it tell? I don't want to speak for Caulfield, but I would guess that a lot of announcers have no idea how great a hitter was Harold Baines.
  3. QUOTE (LDF @ May 12, 2015 -> 09:54 PM) hahaha ..... no offense taken and many thanks for the way you did it. re the age, man on some days i sure as hell feel it. peace. oh btw edit: btw, why ask, was my english that bad??? Nope. Just took a while to get used to it. Keep it up!
  4. QUOTE (LDF @ May 13, 2015 -> 04:16 PM) http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/05/...o-offer-so-far/ interesting and surprising. I read that report cover to cover, and I am exhausted. Time for a nap. Go Sox.
  5. Enjoyed the report on the outfielders. I'm interested in your opinion about Antonio Rodriguez. He is 20 (barely) and has had parts of two seasons in the lowest Rookie Leagues (Bristol and Arizona). Obviously he is ticketed for a third year in short season rookie ball. Seems like he should get a shot at Kanny, since he is so promising. What do you think.
  6. QUOTE (LDF @ May 12, 2015 -> 11:29 AM) in what i am about to express, do not take it wrong, but i believe someone can not be sold on anything, i look at Rondon and what is there not to like. most needs to think outside the box with Rondon. i see him as being a plus +++ many times over who can solidify the defense from the SS position. but the team may need to sacrife the offense, that is if the team will be ok with that. peace. Absolutely no disrespect intended here, LDF....This is not a cheap shot, but are you related to Yogi Berra? (who just turned 90 today).
  7. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 10, 2015 -> 04:47 PM) lol I'm old too but just go with it. Fisk is no longer part of the equation. But stupidity is. Now little leakers will be doing it across the country. I'm with Flavum here.
  8. Do I have this right? White Sox want to put Abreu at third in order to get LaRoche's bat in the lineup? Let's start an over/under on how many bunt hits Brewers get.
  9. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ May 9, 2015 -> 12:30 AM) Fulmer is leading the entire NCAA in K's this season I believe. He's still the guy I want. I saw the last couple of innings of Fulmer's CG shutout vs S Carolina yesterday. It was a repeat from the day before, I believe. He obviously looked great. Plenty of scouts there, no doubt.
  10. QUOTE (LDF @ May 8, 2015 -> 09:15 AM) no one team is going to have 100% success in all their trades, but some have even worst luck, like KW's early trades. horrible results. now, on hindsight, many have come back and said, in his defense, look who the sox gave up. then i turn around show, look at the terrible drafting KW has done to draft that player. the point is, it is too early to really judge the success of any trade, under Hahn regime. even the Reed vs Davidson trade. which i think was and still is, a bad trade. however i can see the reasoning of it. Oh, oh. Stand by to be criticized.
  11. QUOTE (LDF @ May 4, 2015 -> 03:37 PM) can you remember when this system had paper to wipe their backside??? it is a long road. but i love it. I don't understand your metaphor.
  12. QUOTE (shysocks @ May 5, 2015 -> 08:41 AM) It all burned down when we played the Orioles... hire Ozzie and a hooker. Did I get that right? Right on, I'm sure.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2015 -> 05:07 PM) Watching these games I think the opposite. Thinking of a few plays off of the top of my head... Eaton's last game where he took a throw and airmailed everyone throwing the ball from CF all of the way to the screen past home plate. If he wasn't worried about the runner, he would have lollipoped one into the cut off man. He wouldn't have pressed and tried to get the guy at home. Danks two errors yesterday were both trying to make a big play. The DP he threw away would have been an easy toss for the out at first. Instead he was trying to end the big inning by turning a DP. Micah Johnson trying to turn a DP yesterday. If he didn't care, he would have made the easy play at 1B. The game in Baltimore, Abreu threw a ball away trying to turn a grounder to first into a 3-6-3 double play. The lazy play was at 1B. Think of all the extra bases this team has been thrown out trying to take this year. I team that didn't care just stays put, and doesn't try to stretch. Again, I see no crimes of not caring. I see crimes of trying too hard. I was reading an article on the Rockies yesterday, and it mentioned that they had the second worst base running stats in MLB. Second to the White Sox, of course. I don't know what goes into that stat, however.
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ May 3, 2015 -> 01:37 PM) Brad Penny, just retire man. Ditto. This year's Josh Boggs.
  15. On the subject of ineffective Managers, the Brewers just fired Ron Roenicke.
  16. Alexi. Should have done it in the off season. What could Sox get for him this year? Probably not much. At least it makes room for Sanchez.
  17. QUOTE (Lillian @ May 3, 2015 -> 05:54 PM) Why couldn't they sit Jeff down and explain the predicament, in which they find themselves. Tell him they would love to sign him long term, but that they understand that he wants to test free agency. Candidly admit that their chances for competing for a play off spot this year are fading fast, and that they have a flawed offense, which they will try to fix, in the off season. Suggest to him that he would have a better shot at winning, if they can find a suitable trade partner, for the rest of this season, and that they hope to fill one of the few remaining holes, through the trade. After the season, they would like to discuss his signing a long term contract with them. The benefit of that candor would be that they wouldn't burn any bridges, and keep open the possibility of bringing him back. They could arguably be well advised to consider trading him sooner, rather than later, as you suggest. Of course you mean sit down with Jeff's agent, which will cause him to laugh his ass off. And when you say "they", I assume you mean Hahn, who will then go to Kenny for advice.
  18. QUOTE (Mike F. @ May 3, 2015 -> 06:12 PM) Exactly. Samardzija isn't an ace and he shouldn't be paid like one either. That means Sox won't give him QO, which means Sox do not get a comp draft pick in 2016, which means the trade has dubious value, from a second guesser's point of view.
  19. Makes me wonder what Sox could get for Alexi, or has that ship sailed?
  20. QUOTE (buckweaver @ May 2, 2015 -> 12:19 PM) Really? Don't throw something out as fact without backing it up. It's like Fox Sox News. The initial response to my post said a turnaround happens "every 50 to 100 years," then he added a couple more recent examples. Even the '83 Sox is but 32 years ago...a long way from 50 or 100. And we're not talking 2-22 here...the team is four games under. I recall offhand a recent Tampa Bay team that sucked its way through April and contended. Colorado Rockies? Anyone with the resources to compare April MLB records with final records? I did a cursory Google search but didn't come up with anything. As for toughening up...thanks for the warm invitation to keep posting; I truly appreciate the sincerity. Truth is, nearly every post I've made...mostly factual like this one...receives a personal jab or insult. Life's too short. Soxtalk is on my "regular" online visits, particularly around deadline times, because some folks here consolidate real news sources and there are a couple insiders who share information at times (Bucket and Rock). But truth is, there are simply too many "Richards" to make it worth posting more. Nellie Fox?
  21. QUOTE (Lillian @ May 3, 2015 -> 07:39 AM) One of the biggest problems with this offense is Adam La Roche. You all know how important I thought it was to have a left handed power bat, sandwiched between Abreu and Garcia. La Roche is likely not going to be the answer. It's interesting to note that he is exactly the same age as Dunn, and that Adam has already retired. At least when Dunn joined the Sox he was, 4 years younger than La Roche, coming off a pretty decent year; 36 doubles, 38 homers and 103 RBI's. La Roche has already declined significantly, the last 2 years, vs. LHP. He now looks like he doesn't hit RHP too well either. He leads the League in strike outs; an incredible 30 in 74 at bats!! He should never start against a lefty, and he probably isn't good enough to fill that slot between Abreu and Garcia. Let's face it; he was a poor choice. Let's just hope that he is the last left handed DH/first baseman, from the Nats, named Adam, whom the Sox ever sign. If someone wants him, he is the first guy that I would like to see gone, in the "fire sale", which may have to occur. I'd bat Melky in his spot vs. RHP, and give the DH role to whomever. I'm already looktieing ahead to 2016, and I hope that in the off season, Hahn can finally find that left handed, power bat, they need. No one wants La Roche. His results were predictable, just not quite this bad. Still, Robin plays him, bats him in the clean-up slot, then pinch hits Flowers for him late in game with the game on the line.
  22. They should have let Avi try to score on Beckham's hit. Flowers' result was predictable.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ May 1, 2015 -> 01:52 PM) Time to lower the 6.23 ERA on the road the team has. Also saw this note from Merkin: Scott Merkin @scottmerkin · 3h 3 hours ago Per game notes from @MLBNetwork, White Sox are last in defensive runs saved in 2015 with -15. This is a new stat to me. Define, please.
  24. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ May 1, 2015 -> 02:28 PM) Micah leading off tonight. Dan Hayes ‏@CSNHayes 3m3 minutes ago #WhiteSox for 5/1: Johnson 4, Ramirez 6, Cabrera 7, Abreu 3, LaRoche DH, Garcia 9, Gillaspie 5, Flowers 2, Shuck 8. Quintana v. Gibson. Robin took my suggestion. What a country. Good luck Shuck. And Micah.
