QUOTE (Vance Law @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 08:31 PM) Sierra doesn't have any options left. I know; neither do Mitchell or Thompson. Hence my question. Why would they prefer losing Sierra to either Thompson or Mitchell? He's obviously a better hitter, probably a better fielder; is it Sierra's histrionics on the bench? I don't think the Royals would have claimed Thompson or Mitchell. Still don't get it.
-
Why expose Sierra while keeping Trayce Thompson and J Mitchell? Sierra did hit .276 for Sox. Don't get it, not that it's the most important transaction of the year or anything. Roster now at 37.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 12:39 PM) He opted out, but they are still paying him? That doesn't make sense same here.

I hear from my SF based research staff that Peavy will re-sign with Giants.

Baseball America's recent issue has them rated... Rogers Aiken Matuella Finkhouser Buehler Swanson Hooper Kirby Vanderbilt has 3 of the top 13. Same issue evaluated the 2014 draft, naming Peters the Sox best hitter; they said Cleveland had the best draft, Cubs the best hitter.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 10:40 AM) Thanks for sharing. Continues to reiterate that he should not be on anyone's big board. In fact, the deeper point is in the more historical analysis which would indicate if you did the statistical analysis focused by comps based upon his minor league numbers, he often times didn't have good comps. That said its limited data and just one data set as well. Either way, no point in trading him (zero value) but at same time, no one should be expecting anything out of him. If somehow he makes some changes and rebounds and turns into something, great, but It would be a stunning surprise vs. an expectation. Well said. It still blows my mind that so many posters have him in the top ten prospect list. Nice to see a Mod agree with me on Davidson.

QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 21, 2014 -> 04:43 PM) yup you are right. I hate to say this, I just like or need more info. for me, it like reading a book and it stops in the middle. with more chapters slowing coming in. What do you mean? He's a freaking shortstop. FCS. Jeez!

Don't sweat the errors by Anderson. Young guys often make errors on plays that they will eat up a few years down the road. Even Luis Aparicio made well over 30 errors his rookie year, IIRC. He was 21. He had a nice HOF career.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 11, 2014 -> 08:58 AM) Ideally, the Sox far system would permanently reside in that 10-15 range; that would mean the Sox are drafting well, developing well; but no one is just sitting down there forever - the farm is used to replenish the major league team and for an occasional trade. It's unlikely that the Sox system will be over-hyped (like Boston) so that it can deliver prospects to MLB and still reside in the top 5 most years. Ideally, the Sox farm system would permanently reside in that 1-5 range; that would mean the Sox are drafting well and developing well. 1-5 is better than 10-15.

Re: Cargo. There is a Colorado based Blog called the Purple Row that writes some pretty good stuff. They certainly are not afraid to criticize the Rockies. They just started a series of ranking their players 1 through 45. They are now down to #38. Cargo was # 41. He had a cyst removed from his finger and major surgery on his patellar tendon. Plus, they had to remove some junk from under the knee cap. Don't ask me how they do that. My point is that his health is a major issue.
-
He had a variety of injuries all through 2014 season.

They should hire Magic Johnson.

QUOTE (beautox @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 09:40 PM) Per Rosenthal "O’Dowd stepping down as #Rockies GM. Geivett also resigning and leaving organization. Team will name new GM." With that happening I believe his replacement in addition to the rockies solid performance at the gate will afford them to move one or both of CarGo and or Tulo I was thinking same thing. I wish I knew more about Cargo's knee problems. I have not read anything recently.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 07:25 AM) Baez doesn't suck but if he were the primary return in a package of prospects, I'd be quite scared. Either way, the Sox aren't going to trade Quintana. His asking price will be slightly lower than that of Chris Sale but still insanely high and way too much for any team to muster. If they really offered enough to trade Quintana, then the Sox are getting either 3 extremely good prospects - the Cubs are easy to relate to, so we'll say Bryant, Edwards, and Baez - or they're getting a great major leaguer plus a prospect in return. Frankly, I'm not sure I'd even trade Quintana straight up for Giancarlo Stanton right now. Because of his injury, or on general principles?

QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 11:20 AM) Funny thing I saw in this article - Bevington...allowed Albert Belle to have a traveling entourage but then kicked Ozzie Guillen's kids out of the clubhouse. Maybe he wasn't ALL bad. I never understood why other players would allow one guy to have an entourage hanging around the clubhouse, if that is indeed what went on.
-
I had forgotten about some of the Bevington era flaws. That would be an interesting thread all by itself.

Here's an old article on White Sox of 20+ years ago. http://www.southsidesox.com/2013/2/24/4022...s-what-happened

What's the amount needed for the QO status this year? Gotta be close to $15 large. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 5, 2014 -> 11:29 PM) cmon, does anybody on this board really think that the sox would trade Sale? Maybe in his last option year if they are still a 70-75 win team. Not now.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 5, 2014 -> 08:42 AM) Can't be traded before June anyway, can he? Or did that rule get changed? One year from signing date, IIRC. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 3, 2014 -> 04:53 PM) Just to brainstorm...if injury is his issue, could he survive as a full time DH? Hit well enough and maybe play the field 20ish games a season or something like that? Cargo is Gold Glove OF; don't want to DH him. Last two seasons he's had finger problems, including a cyst that had to be taken out. How hard is it to fix a damn finger? The reason his road numbers are worse is because Coors Field causes an adjustment to be made when they go on the road. If he played in Chicago, he wouldn't have that problem. Cargo is an MVP waiting to happen. Hahn should go after him. I have no idea what kind of pitching package they would want, but Hahn should find out. -
Back to Billy Beane, he gave up too mcuh for Smardj....a.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 3, 2014 -> 09:03 PM) Being a hitting coach is one of those jobs asking to get fired. I think they are more important in the minor league system. I bet the Sox don't have any good ones there. If you don't know their names, how can you criticize them?
-
De Aza was going to be gone in 2015 anyway. No way Sox would let him go to arbitration and be stuck with him again for an entire season at an even higher salary. If he gets a few hits for Baltimore, who cares?
