After tonight's debacle, I will now call our Manager "Ace Ventura".
-
If Rodon is watching, he'll call off the signing.
-
When do we find out the size of the bonus?

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 06:16 PM) They showed that he is in attendance. And when they cut to him, he was wiping off either beer that the girl next to him spilled on his leg, or splooge from her J'ing him O. The world may never know. Does he have his own plane yet? Can't see him flying commercial with his entourage.

I just read that Sox signed a 22 year old catcher named Ryan Plourde. Never heard of him.....
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 01:39 PM) Holmberg? Right. Holmberg. He got knocked around in his start.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 01:42 AM) ' What is everyone's obsession with moving Abreu to DH? He's hitting fine at 1B and you don't know if DHing would affect that and he is also fine defensively out there. Plus his play at first base is good enough and improving. Leave him alone.

Pitchers must like him. Cooper must like him.

Back to last night's winner.....Alexei made several really good plays last night. I also thought Putnam got lucky in the 9th.

I would not be surprised if the Rockies put Cargo on the trade market. Of course, I said this 6 months ago, too. If they re-sign Cuddyer, then more so. I don't think they will, however. Still, I think Cargo will be offered in off season. For pitching, obviously.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 01:35 PM) 1. Buddy Bell is terrible. 2. You left out Mitchell ripping up the AFL last season with a .304/.425/.580 line before heading back to AAA this season. When Mitchell was drafted, the commentators said he had a lot of tools but his pitch recognition was pretty poor, they mentioned that playing football took time away from his development so he had a chance to be good if he were able to improve his pitch recognition now that he wouldn't be spending time on the gridiron. I don't think his playing football at LSU kept hhim from being a big leaguer.

Former Sox farmhand David Holmgren called up by Cinci and sked to pitch against the Scrubs tonight.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 04:36 PM) The Astros took a guy that many felt was the best arm with the highest ceiling in the draft, found out that he may have some injury concerns after initially agreeing to a $6.5 million deal, and are still saying to him "look, we're still willing to give you $5 mill, which we believe is more than fair." I don't see anything questionable with what the Astros have done. But if the Astros offer $5MM and he doesn't take it, then the Astros do not get a replacement first round pick in 2015, correct? Edit: Sorry, I did not see Southsider's previous post.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 07:38 AM) ^Also that is very sad, that our system is so barren we can't even call up a shot-in-the-dark type of prospect to throw out there instead of Dunn. We literally have nothing. Cupboard is bare. Andy Wilkins is close. His BA is in the .240's with 14/42 numbers. but he got off to a horrible start in first 5-6 weeks of season. He's been doing the job for a while now. Of course, I have never seen him play with my own eyes, but it wouldn't bother me to put him in there. At least the team strikeouts level would improve and we could see if he could help in 2015 when both Dunn and PK are gone. He's been in the Sox system for 5 seasons now and has kept improving. I'm for giving him the opportunity.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 06:07 AM) This is a dumb comment. I'd go in depth as to why, but we'll just leave it at that. It's not a dumb comment. Who is going to take Dunn? Why would anyone? Furthermore, I think Dunn is done after this season. His Last Hurrah took four years.
-
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 10:51 PM) I'm not surprised. Jerry has shown plenty of times in the past that he's not afraid to open his wallet. Patience Sox fans. ........Signing Dunn, Rios, and Peavy.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 03:30 PM) Any contender that wants Dunn will not be a contender much longer after acquiring him. He'll be a Sox the remainder of the season IMO. As someone else said, it's 99.9999% certain.

Speaking of first basemen, Ty Williams had 3 errors and 2 K's.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 06:41 AM) The most important point in Jake's post is that we promoted a guy to AAA after striking out 31% of the time in AA. If that doesn't give Hahn enough merit to fire Buddy Bell I don't know what else does. Hawk won't allow it.
-
QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 04:21 PM) Justin Morneau was the most feared hitter in the AL? MVP one year. "Most feared" is probably a slight exaggeration
-
Why is the Int'l signing age set so low? Most are just 17. you know what I mean. Teams are throwing money around as if they have their own printing presses to kids still in high school, assuming they go to school at all. For most, they won't even be ready for low Rookie League for at least two years.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 07:43 PM) What is the rush for either side? He's barely going to pitch this year anyways. anyway. Is Aiken 99.99 % like Rodon?
-
If his level of play stays about the same through rest of this season, I think he will be back here in 2015. Dunn, PK, and de Aza most likely will be gone,,,,,who's going to beat him out for a roster spot?
-
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 30, 2014 -> 04:10 PM) I'd be shocked if Garcia ever hit 30 HR's. He's strong enough but he'd need to revamp his entire swing. There's a reason the Tigers gave him up for a slick fielding/no bat SS. He's a Groundball hitter that relies on speed and has a body type that's going to make him struggle with weight. As others have noted, he's an awful defender too. I'd move him in a second. Geez, the kid hit over .370 at two AAA spots last year and hit over .300 with Sox. I think that justifies giving him at least one full year before hitting the Sell Avisail Button, even if he only hits 15 Homers a year.

It might be an uncomplicated answer, like Sox having too many young catchers on the three low minors teams who are ranked ahead of Ayala. The writing was prob on the wall last year when he played about once a week at Bristol in his second pro year.
