Actually, most of the #1 picks have not yet signed.
-
Give it another week, then it won't be so laughable. Boras said to be waiting for #2 pick Kolek to sign with Marlins. I'm just glad that Boras doesn't represent both. Kolek's agent is probably waiting for Rodon to sign. Rodon is sitting around eating potato chips all day for all we know.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 05:38 PM) That's believable to me. That's the thing about all the hipster beers, they're all sizzle no steak, and people have the strangest habits of rationalizing their purchases. Like I just can't for the life of me understand why someone would want to pay so much for a beer just for the opportunity to talk about drinking said beer with other people who also have nothing interesting to say either. It's probably why these two trades happened, AA & Hahn had nothing to do but jerk off and watch Judge Judy so they get on the phone and start talking about s***ty players and then suddenly Hahn is rationalizing the superficially absurd trade of perfectly good money for 2 s***ty players, and of course AA is all about it too, like "Oh you're gonna love this guy" and blah blah blah. Same thing with the s***ty beer like, "Ooooh, can't you taste the hops? That was brewed in a galvanized bucket behind an old woodshed by a naked man performing a headstand, just as according to custom, and so that's why it's $8 a bottle." Makes no f***in sesne, the beer goes in one hole and comes out another, just get it down and move on to doing whatever you were doing, you're not Sir Isaac Newton you don't need to get sit there and contemplate it, just drink a good beer and that's that. A good honest beer at a tasty price. And if you're Hahn trade for a good honest player at a tasty price, don't just get on the phone with the Blue Jays and have a verbal circle jerk until Captain Waiver Claim convinces your snobby ass that one of his s***ty players is worth giving up perfectly good money for. So yeah I agree with you wite, we're on the same page here. We need to get Hahn some better beer, put his priorities in order before we end up with another one of these guys. I don't know who you are, but I like your prose.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 09:27 PM) Why not walk Miggy I do not understand RV? Martinez on deck.

I know they were talking about Rodon at the break, but could not hear the details. Any breaking news?

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 05:24 PM) Moises has played really, really well for the Sox. No reason to think he's going to lose his job. Sierra is terrible, same category as Gorkys, Hill, Toui, Paulino, Boggs......

QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 05:04 PM) On a side note, with the new prospects and the draft and the existing players and prospects, where do the sox stand with ref to the 40 man rosters. i don't remember all the rules concerning that. 40 man roster not an issue with White Sox. Unfortunately, it is loaded with players who have little or no chance of making a contribution anytime. There are probably 7-8 players on it who fit that description, partially offset by two guys on the 60 day DL.

I don't want to jinx our boys, but this is a big game.

Maryland got knocked out of the CWS today, so Brewster is now available to sign.

Garfein: Sox could trade Beckham for pitching

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 09:27 AM) Pretty sure the least the Dodgers would even consider is Jose Quintana. I would do it. -
I must have missed info on Montes de Oca. If he is so good, why did he last so long in the draft?
-
I was touting Dickerson last year; the kid can hit. The guy who might be on the trading block is Cargo. Cuddyer FA after this season.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 11, 2014 -> 11:40 AM) Sean Reid-Foley signed for slot at 49. I had thought part of the reason we went for Adams over Reid-Foley was that Reid-Foley was looking for overslot, but no. Reid-Foley was ranked higher across the board, some places significantly, others just a few places. 49?

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 01:25 PM) I'm less bullish primarily because his numbers at Reno, an absolute hitter's paradise with altitude AND dry desert heat, are rather pedestrian in the PCL scheme of things. I like his AA performance and his time in MLB was too short for a "book" to have developed on him. Cautiously optimistic still, but with emphasis on the caution. His 31 games at AZ were enough for them to have a book on him, per my crack research staff. Result: Sox gave up waaay too much.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 01:32 PM) It's shocking how often Davidson has homered in his first AB, only to go hitless the rest of the game. Oh well, at least he's showing a ton of power right now. But they lost 14-2 and gave up 20 hits.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 10, 2014 -> 03:24 PM) is it me or does it seem that we are starting to have some positive news coming from our minor league teams or is this the yearly cycle of fools gold. Your glass is half full; nothing wrong with that. Anderson and Trey M both hitting very well. Sanchez and Micah, too. Couple of pitchers have stepped up. The mysterious unknown is out there with three international kids (Micker, Castilla, Done) about to get their professional baptism in Arizona in 10 days or so. Two high draft picks, one of whom might not sign but we don't know that yet, are about to start their careers. Sammy Ayala for round 3 of Rookie Ball.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 08:08 PM) Davidson is 4 for his last 33 with 3 homers Is he a better hitter than Addison Reed?

One of the worst Sox losses I've ever witnessed
oldsox replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Fact is. Sale struggled a bit in 7th inning, then gave up a hit and the botched double play by Alexie. I would have taken him out. Then, the pitch to Trout was not that bad. The result was, but it was not a 'cookie' that Trout hit. The title to this post is appropriate. -
Just wondering......since our #1 pick is represented by Boras.... What happened years ago when we drafted pitcher Bobby Seay #1? I know he was represented by Boras, and he was declared a free agent because the Sox never offered Seay a contract, but there must be more to the story, or did White Sox just fall asleep at the switch.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 6, 2014 -> 01:15 PM) Avisail make up for weaknesses of the centerfielder? I thought A. Garcia was a disaster defensively. Is Eaton Aaron Rowand clone? About a .240 hitter who has intangibles? I meant offensively. IOW, if Avisail is in the middle of the lineup with Abreu, and they are both getting on base and hitting extra base hits all over the place, there is a place for Eaton at the top. Avisail getting hurt makes Eaton less of a factor offensively.

Sox Draft Carlos Rodon> Draft Day Discussion Thread

NC State was loaded this year. We got two guys, Trea Turner high first rounder, there is another pitcher in there somewhere. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2014 -> 08:06 AM) Why? Arm. Left handed.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 6, 2014 -> 07:41 AM) Already given up on Eaton, eh? Not really. I endorsed the Santiago trade when it happened. He cetainly hit for a high average in most of his minor league career. He hustles. I said about a week or so ago that he was one bad week away from hitting .240. Here he is. He seems to be struggling. A few weaknesses, so-so arm for sure. Baserunning is iffy...I have seen several instances where he just doesn't get that good jump that superior baserunners have. He probably needs a jolt of confidence. Still improving, hopefully. I just think CF is not a position of strength right now. We have a slug playing left, and Eaton certainly can't make up for that deficit. If Avisail had never gotten hurt, he would help cover up Eaton's weaknesses; that is, he would fit in better. But our outfield is so bad right now with no help in sight, I made that comment about trading Gordo for a CF type a bit impulsively. I meant it, but have not given up on him.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 6, 2014 -> 09:29 AM) I don't think we know enough about Adams yet, but there's no way Montas > Davidson at this point. You are probably in love with Davidson's potential, and you probably loved the Reed trade when it happened. Fact is, his average was between .240 and .280 throughout his minor league career, going back to 2009. Then he goes downhill this year. Fact is, this is his 6th year of pro ball. Fact is, the star of Montas appears to be rising, and I say this objectively. He has a long way to go, but he fits the description of prospect; Davidson does not. Things might change later for both players, but right now any ML franchise would love to have Montas; Davidson, not so much.

I hope they can trade Gordo next month for a quality CF prospect.
