  1. I don't understand the infatuation for Davidson. If he had Saladino's numbers, you guys would be messing yourselves. Yet, Saladino doesn't show up anywhere. Saladino is 23 and possibly figured it out this year. Davidson hasn't. Balta needs two more years, I just discovered. How about two more months?
  2. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jun 6, 2014 -> 12:48 AM) He's been our best player in the minor leagues this year. He's started virtually every game at SS over Carlos Sanchez, so presumably he can at least hold it down. OPS over .850. And he can't make anyone.s prospect list. Seriously, tho, was he hurt last year, or what? I'm trying to figure out why he hit only .230ish last year in AA.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 20, 2014 -> 10:11 PM) Davidson has gone from a Top 100 prospect in all of baseball to almost outside of the Top 10 of one of the worst systems in baseball in the span of two months? Yes.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2014 -> 06:56 AM) 2 years and declaring a draft dead? Geesh. At least one catcher left pro ball, IIRC. Of the other two, one is on the Kanny DL and has not played this year (Fisher) and the other (Ayala) is still in Advanced ST. If you have optimism here, please share it. Maybe Fisher and Ayala are both slated to play Rookie Ball this year, not exactly a lot of info to go on.
  5. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 09:10 PM) Who is Adams compared to in the MLB? Mike Adams, currently with Phils.
  6. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 07:52 PM) Yeah after this draft and the international signing period the Sox have a strong chance of easily having a 15 farm system, maybe even top ten. You gotta be kidding. Other teams are drafting, too, you know. Geez, we are 40 or so under .500 in minors this year.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 05:58 PM) Wow, really early for Freeland. Most were projecting the teens or early 20's. Small frame/durability has always been the concern...a bit like Gio Gonzalez in that sense. No, the Colorado pubs predicted Freeland for the Rox.
  8. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 05:51 PM) Yep, exactly. All those people questioning our fandom and being so visirol about us rooting for the Sox to lose now get to bathe in the reward of having Carlos Rodon on this team. We were sitting at like pick #11 before myself and others decided to bite the bullet and root for Sox losses. Now let's see who goes #11 to Toronto and ask everyone if they would trade Carlos Rodon for that person. The answer is going to be f*** NO. new word?
  9. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 05:50 PM) As a NC State alum and someone living in the Raleigh area who has watched Rodon pitch dozens of times live, I just can't believe we drafted him. Unreal to me. His game against Cuba at the Durham Bulls park was amazing. This is a case of Rodon being overanalyzed after a lukewarm year. He is that good! Congrats everyone! As Yogi Berra said, "There is nothing like seeing a player with your own eyes and ears." Thanks for sharing, cuz you have seen more of Rodon than most scouts.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 04:48 PM) Kolek won't be ready for 3-4 years. We have no idea what our rotation looks like then. I just saw the MLB report on Kolek. He is a work out machine, great family, work ethic, etc. I hope we get him.
  11. I don't totally understand this Competitive Balance section of the draft. If the White Sox flounder this year, what are the chances of getting this pick next year?
  12. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 12:38 PM) I will happily take any of those three with Aiken being my first choice but I could flip a coin between Nola and Kolek. Exactly. Nola put up very good numbers the last two seasons at LSU, yet most are still so focused on Rodon. I just don't get it. Rodon has a hot girlfriend.
  13. I have really enjoyed this thread since it was started.
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 03:02 PM) Hawkins has now played 162 regular season games for Winston-Salem. .204/.280/.421/.701 65 XBH Struck out 33% of the time. He's trending in the right direction though. enough to be a top 5 prospect?
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 08:35 PM) If you want a decent return, part of the matter is not including guys who are pretty much useless. Balta, I don't understand what you just said.
  16. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 01:00 PM) That was great. Ventura #10 overall 1988 Thomas #7 overall 1989 Guillen - Intl FA Johnson acquired via trade from the Cardinals for Jose DeLeon who was received for the White Sox to return rule V pick Bobby Bonilla Cora - acquired via trade from Padres Kark - #14 overall 1982 McDowell - #5 overall 1987 Fernandez - #4 overall 1990 Alvarez - Intl FA Hernandez #16 overall 1986 It took a decade of sucking to build that core. I never knew or forgot that Kark was a first rounder.
  17. QUOTE (Chris Sale @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 04:37 PM) Why is De Aza batting 6th? Wouldn't you want him batting as little as humanely possible? Also, Beckett is a righty. Why isn't Gillaspie in there? I wish Leury could play the OF lol. It would be 'humane' if Sox cut De Aza.
  18. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 01:14 PM) His draft record is tied to him pushing the limits of the payroll every year and not having anything left over to spend on amateur talent and having to draft players that he could get at a discount. Did Kenny get a discount for Hawkins, Honel, Broadway, Borchard, Mitchell, et al? Can't remember.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 07:29 AM) After reading everything, I'm kind of warming up to Nola. He may not have quite the upside of the other 3, but he still has a high end upside and appears to be not only the most likely to reach it, but the most likely to reach it first. Also, if drafting Nola allows us to go overslot with our 2nd and/or 3rd pick then that's worthy of consideration. We aren't overloaded with prospects. If we can get better prospects with our 2/3 picks because we drafted Nola at 1, then with our situation that might be worth it. That being said, and I'm not a big baseball draft guy, but from what I've seen and heard I'd still prefer Rodon. But Nola might be my #2. HS pitchers this early are very risky, Keith Law said last night that Nola could be in the majors this year and in a rotation next year.
  20. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 04:29 PM) He didn't get enough for Peavey, Rios and Reed, that's for sure. The best trade he made was Soptic for Gillaspie. The Peavy trade was good, can't blame Garcia's injury on Hahn. Got two excellent pitching prospects with Avisail. Peavy has been hit pretty hard this year. Rest of post is valid.
  21. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 12:23 AM) He's a little long in the tooth for that league, though, isn't he? Age is one thing, number of years in pro ball is another. He's right where he belongs, same as Kevan Smith.
  22. QUOTE (MAX @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 04:01 PM) In what world is an unkempt beard offensive? Not in prison Not on a deserted island Not in hoboland
  23. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 02:26 PM) Athletes aren't role models. At least they shouldn't be. Tell that to little kids. Geez, when I was one, I sure idolized guys like Minoso, Appling, Fox, Pierce, Aparicio, etc.
  24. Thanks for mentioning Kevan Smith. He can obviously hit, but no one lists him anywhere on prospect lists, because he is too, too OLD. Including the White Sox web site. Not going to name names.... Kevan, I hope you keep up the hot streak; I'm pulling for you.
  25. QUOTE (Nokona @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 06:36 PM) Am I the only one that doesn't like Rodon's delivery? No, it looks like the delivery of a lefty brought in to face a lefty and then go to showers.
