QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 10:48 AM) He's the forgotten man from the 80's Lakers dynasty. Actually played more minutes than Kareem for a few of those years, backing up the 4 (Rambis) and 5. Stan, did you know that he was originally going to play for Denver in the ABA, but then the merger happened and they took the pick away from Denver? One of the conditions of the merger.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 19, 2014 -> 05:06 PM) I mean, does anyone think it's a PROBLEM that the Sox took a shot in the dark that failed? I sure don't. This is the time for it. Not worth taking any significant monetary risks at this point, thus your only smart option is to make moves like this. You should EXPECT, more than likely, that they'll fail. It should not come as a shock, nor should it draw any ire, when a gamble doesn't pay off. It was still a smart move. No, it was not a smart move, quite the contrary. Expecting him to fail, as you put it, and then watching him fail, is not a smart move. Financially, it was certainly not a smart move. Colossal waste of money. It doesn't do anyone, teammates included, fans included, any good to watch that kind of performance. It makes someone look to be a very poor judge of talent. Not a smart move. Now if he had a non guaranteed conmtract, like Boggs, it might not have looked so bad. The only smart move was by Paulino's agent. It would be smarter to have an 11 man staff, since the FO long ago made the decision to carry 3 FB/DH.

My understanding of Boros' negotiationg style is not to give away his dollar requirements prior to draft day.
-
Leesman and Scott Carroll look like the 2 best starting pitchers at Charlotte.
-
Maybe the Sox web site will comment that Paulino was pitching in bad luck, that he'll get it together, blah, blah. This is the same Paulino who got blasted while with the Rockies a couple of years ago. He's gotta be hurt.

Still, it is easy to second guess RV again after last night's loss, esp leaving Bellbottums in to pitch the 9th after escaping the 8th due to PK's good play on the double play. RV was gun shy after Wed night debacle with no pitchers. was not going to let that happen again, so he leaves him in, game over.

Tough loss last night. Dunn getting thrown out at home, Semien not making the play on Napoli's slow grounder to third, bullpen again.

FutureSox Interview Season getting underway
oldsox replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
Regarding your personal improvement in your baseball skills since turning pro, what has been the most important? professional coaching higher level of competition physical maturation/weight training Would you have been better off signing a pro contract out of high school? -
6 weeks to go. When do our draft gurus speculate on whe Sox pick for Round 2? Pick #39, I believe.
-
I think De Aza is in his final year with White Sox. He'll prob finish out the season and not be offered a contract for 2015.
-
Agreed on Gordo's value. Sox brass probably would like to move for him salary relief, saving a couple million or so. Semien seemed to be pressing the first week, not so much now.

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 05:02 AM) I'd like to know Wittman's track record of predicting where A level players end up. To me it sounds like a guy who wants to focus on the negative aspects of a player to make himself seem more of an expert. Maybe he does have some credibility but he could just as easily be another Todd McShay.Have you ever read the story on ESPN "draft guru", Tood McShay? He basically knew somebody that got him a job and ESPN told him that he was going to be their new draft expert because they were/are phasing Mel Kiper out. McShay had no NFL background at all. Yet, there he is telling us how he breaking tape on players and how NFL teams should draft. Which is what they did with with Mel Kiper many years earlier. Blows my mind how they can do that, and yet I started liking Kiper's analysis. I'm surprised they didn't hire a woman for McShay's job.

Alexei's 9th inning bomb had to be a ball breaker for the Tribe. I loved it. Actually, the Tribe could have wrapped it up in top of 9th. After they tied it, they should have gone for a big inning. That sacrifice actually helped Sox, since they had two on and no outs. Don't know what Axford was thinking with that fast ball right down the middle.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 05:55 AM) So Beckham is not good enough to start for the Sox, yet somehow he carries some magical trade value? Yankees, yes.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 13, 2014 -> 01:05 PM) The only way that happens is if Hoffman goes 1 or 2 and Rodon is demanding way over slot. Honestly, I think Hoffman will be available at 3 and he'll be our pick. He just makes too much sense for us. Do these highly ranked kids demand a specific bonus before draft day?

Wite, pardon me, please. All I'm doing is making comments about current events. Don't get so upset. Obviously, one of our best players gets hurt and is out for the season. Danks is the automatic option to take Garcia's spot. Done. Now there is a spot open in Charlotte. So far, we should be in agreement. In football there is an old expression when a guy gets hurt: "Next man up". Now, I know, I know there is not an exact correlation between the two sports, but, still, it seems natural to see if there is someone at the next lower level that can take Jordan's spot at Charlotte. It doesn't look like that's what happened. Very quickly there was a conversation between KC and the White Sox, and the result was KC sold Hernandez to the Sox for some amount of cash. On first blush it looks as if Sox took him off their hands, because if he were a valuable piece, they would have asked for more compensation. KC possibly needed the roster spot at Omaha to move up one of their prospects, or at least I would not be surprised at that. I threw Richmond's name out there, I admit, a bit prematurely. Sorry. I could have used other names, like Michael Earley. Using your theory of preparedness for promotion, you should ask how many games has he played above A ball. That's what you did with Richmond. Well, the answer is about 165 games. Looks like he is qualified, based on your initial criterium. Maybe Hernandez is a better player/prospect than Earley. I don't really know. But a lot of us on this board, including you and me, have been following Sox minor leaguers from the day of signing. That includes Michael Earley. He has progressed nicely through the system, not on a rocket ship like Mike Trout, but he has had some success to warrant being the next man up. That was my initial point. Just as you said about Hernandez, if he doesn't play well at Charlotte, you can exercise other options. It just makes good business sense to promote from within when possible, all other things being equal. Of course, having said all of this, Hernandez will probably hit the cover off the ball at Charlotte, Earley will go into an immediate tailspin, and you will remind me of this post. Meanwhile, I'll pull for Hernandez to do well at Charlotte, and you'll pull for Earley and Richmond and Thompson to do well at Birmingham.

Rondon was just 16 when BoSox signed him. No wonder his BA was a bit low in early years. This kid is a legitimate prospect. Boston might have figured he would get stuck behind Pedroia and Boegarts, so they let him go in the Peavy trade??? Wonder if Hahn held out for him or just got lucky. Either way, it makes the Peavy trade look better and better.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 08:21 PM) Obviously the team didn't feel they were ready. The last thing we need to do is rush kids. Trayce Thompson has not been rushed. Just the opposite.
-
Until he got hurt, I thought the bad routes might have been caused by his playing CF quite a bit. I wasn't that concerned. But the injury does show that the feet first slide is a lot safer. The injury reminded me of Quentin's injury in RF when he played for Sox. Identical format.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 09:03 PM) This is filler for Charlotte, nothing more. So why can't they promote Josh Richmond from B'ham and call him filler. He is hitting around .350. Or even Trayce. Makes no sense. Chalk it up to Organizational Morale. Sometimes I think that baseball decision makers don't have the sense that God gave a Goose.

Sox could have promoted one of the outfielders at Birmingham. Instead we pay for an outfielder from KC org who is hitting .231. I don't get it.

Cleveland Indians vs Chicago White Sox

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 08:09 PM) Good hit but bad base running. Like the aggressiveness tho Aggressive, or just ill-advised? Make sure the RF throws home before you try advancing. A bone head base running play, IMO. Hope he learns from it. -

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 08:35 PM) Hawk talking about card games from 50 years ago. Just awesome. I just learned that a good hearts player will turn into a good coach. -
QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 9, 2014 -> 05:00 PM) Can anyone explain why the Rockies brought in Boone Logan with two out and no one on in a game that was over? I feel like Weiss was sending a message there... No message. They just activated Logan, and this was his first action.
