Will someone please explain why kids from St. Thomas are subject to the MLB Draft, but kids from DR and Venezuela are immediate free agents.

May as well covert Casper Wells to a RP

He'll have a few more opportunities to pitch in games that are beyond hope. -
QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jun 29, 2013 -> 03:04 PM) Are you serious? Only half serious. I meant that they signed 18 pitchers, probably all of whom are ticketed for Bristol or Great Falls, plus they have several pitchers held over from last year on those rosters, so I can't get too disappointed if we fail to sign a couple of mid 30's round pitchers, because there are not going to be enough innings for them anyway. Of course, I know little about the two remaining unsigned pitcher draft picks, and you never know who is going to step up, so I am half non - serious.

Do you want Ventura back as manager next year?

Robin's primary thought process now is probably to figure out how not to be the 2014 Manager but still collect his salary for 2014. -
The continuing fall and decline of PHT.

Speaking of the old days of SoxTalk, where is Rex Hudler? He was the best. There were a few other names that I can't remember but would know them if I saw them. -
QUOTE (gatnom @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 07:34 PM) This means we should have about ~122,800 to ~287,880 to spend on Rodriguez depending on how much they want to get taxed, if I'm understanding things correctly. From previous accounts, it sounds highly, highly unlikely that he signs for anywhere in that range. Geez, they just signed 18 pitchers. That should be enough.

This announcement will make the next 5 weeks a bit more interesting, but, aside from the pitching staff, this team is the rough equivalent of an above average AAA team, at best. I don't think we we will be getting any dazzling offers from other organizations. Still, I like the aggressive stance and hope Hahn is up to it. -
You = Hahn. Do you heavily shop Reed, Yes or No?

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 02:45 PM) The lamenting of the Jackson-Hudson deal just needs to disappear from these boards. We tried to win, we didn't, oh well. We didn't miss a beat in the SP department, we actually got better even without anyone we were talking about at the time coming through. Still the biggest & most hurtful move during that time period was the one we didn't make, where JR blocked KW from firing Ozzie's ass. Au contraire. We did miss a beat in the SP Dept. Hudson went on an immediate hot streak, Jackson did the opposite. And we threw in Holmgren for good measure. I also feel we should no longer lament the trade, but not because of what you said. -
What happened to Ryan Kussmaul at B-ham? Hasn't played in about 3 weeks.

We''ll see a lot of this play on Sports Center, etc. Any chance Beckham sits on Wed?

I thought that infield pop up was trouble right away. Gillaspie was struggling all the way before Beckham's cross body block.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 09:54 PM) Harrelson's going on a tirade. You have got to be kidding me...you've got to be kidding me! over and over again. Ironic, that it's his favorite son Gordon that screwed up this time. Did Hawk start his game is ova routine?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 09:00 AM) If he's striking out at a 55-60% clip TWO YEARS FROM NOW, that might be a pretty strong indication he's not ever going to figure things out. When's the last Sox position prospect who hit below .200 for 3 consecutive seasons and then suddenly turned things around? Now if he makes gradual progress, like Thompson, there will hope. But this idea of him being a special talent who could make it to the majors as quickly as someone like Mike Trout (2000 Midwest League) is rapidly disappearing. That should be a pretty strong indication (if you look at Trout's history) that they pushed him too hard. The fact that Mike Trout was at least playing in the far inferior Midwest League through the All-Star Break of his 2nd season...before he was promoted based on merit. When's the last time a non-pitching prospect from a high school background was pushed into High A ball the year he was drafted as well as to begin the following season? Can you name one? Kershaw?

QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Jun 23, 2013 -> 04:04 PM) One thing people are forgetting on Walker is he had major shoulder surgery and knee surgery during the offseason. Rehabbing two big injuries is asking a lot and to his credit he came back very quick. The smart thing the organization maybe should of done was rehab that shoulder more. Look what is happening with Kemp/Dodgers same thing. He rushed back and his shoulder is no where near 100%. I still like Walker, but I think expectations should be low this year due to these injuries. Now if he plays like this next year, then we have a problem. Walker might be a great kid, but he was drafted way too high. He does not justify a draft pick in the mid-forties. His skill level prob justified a pick in rounds 3-5. I have always blasted the Sox for signing Dunn and giving up a first round pick, but they would have screwed that up, too.

QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ Jun 23, 2013 -> 01:00 AM) You are joking, right? He had a strong debut last year, has been struggling for all of two months, and yet still has the best hr/pa ratio in high a ball as a 19 year old. He has some big red flags for sure, but to NOT have him near the top of a thin system would strain all credibility. I am not joking. I wish I were. So I'll ask you the same question: How much more do you have to see to remove him from the top? I wish I knew what to do with Hawkins. What happens if we send him down to Kanny, and he continues like this? It's like he went from prospect to project in 2-3 months.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 22, 2013 -> 09:11 PM) I wonder if there's some thought in the organization about trading Reed, grooming Danish quickly in the minors to fill that role immediately kind of like Sale, work with him on his mechanics piece by piece at the MLB level ala Sale, then try to convert him to a starter in the big leagues. Geez. Danish hasn't thrown his first pitch yet in pro ball.

QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jun 22, 2013 -> 04:13 PM) 1. Hawkins 2. E. Johnson 3. Thompson 4. Anderson 5. Snodgress 6. M. Johnson 7. Barnum 8. Sanchez 9. Walker 10. Beck 11. Phegley 12. Webb 13. Danish 14. Rienzo 15. Coats You have to start asking yourself when can you remove Hawkins from #1 status. How many more months/years of futility do you need? I'm pulling for the kid as much as anyone, but to have him listed anywhere near the top of the heap sends all credibility out the window.

Even if we don't trade Crain, we can still get a draft pick for him next year.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 12:17 PM) I can't stand football. I know I'm in the extreme minority but I just think it's the dumbest sport, and all they do is talk football like 9 months of the year. I can't even turn on the radio unless there's a game on. But that's better anyway, those guys are all blowhards. What, you don't get excited by delay of game penalties, or false starts, offsides, etc? You don't lke 10-12 commercials after a TD, which is followed by a kickoff out of the end zone, followed by six more commercials? The two minute warning doesn't turn your crank? -
So....now that the major league team sucks........
oldsox replied to balfanman's topic in FutureSox Board
Since the Sox need catching, there is a AAA catcher available who is hitting about .330. Can't remember his name. Fegley?? I hear he is available because his current parent team won't bring him up. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 09:49 PM) I just looked that trade up. One guy has a career OPS of .722 in the minors and the other has a 3.82 ERA. Studs? Good point. You never know with prospects. The Phillies probably knew very well what they were giving up, the Astros......we don't know how well they scouted those two players they received.

Is Oregon State's Danny Hayes likely to sign after he finishes the CWS?
