  1. I see several reasons for Opening Day optimism. We should be significantly improved in LF and 3B. I expect Viciedo to have a big year. No major drop-offs elsewhere. Robin is a year wiser.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 26, 2013 -> 06:45 AM) We're literally overloaded on middle of the rotation to bottom of the rotation pitchers, and we spent FA money on a better starter. I assume you mean Peavy, or are you referring to the recent Sale extension? No argument. Back to Lohse, I wonder how much good agent Boros did for Lohse. He was certainly looking for more money than the Brewers gave him. I can't remember what the Cards offered Lohse/Boros.
  3. Great article, Flavum. Thanks. I'm surprised there wasn't more conversation here on Lohse. Never saw any evidence that Sox were interested, so I guess they were not. And speaking of lost number 1 picks, I still wish we had not given up a #1 for Dunn. That unknown player would have had 2 seasons of pro ball by now.....
  4. QUOTE (Cali @ Mar 24, 2013 -> 03:45 PM) Purcey stinks. How did he get a normal number assigned to him? Johnson should have been 41. Who is Purcey? Never heard of him before ST.
  5. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 07:42 PM) Me too, how do I go about doing that without actually going to Vegas? Get a local a bookie or find someone who is going to Vegas. Or just make a friendly wager with a buddy.
  6. Vegas over/under for Sox is 80.5 wins. Detroit 93.0 KC 78.5 Minn 69 Clev 79.5
  7. Rogers once claimed that KW was offended when Rogers criticized him after the trading of Kip Wells and Josh Fogg to the Pirates for that right hander who couldn't get anyone out. So Kenny wouldn't talk to him for a while. When was that trade? 2002?
  8. Whenever I hear of Furcal, I recall his back injury, which sounds like it was very similar to Morel's, and that Furcal (like Todd Helton) had it surgically fixed and Brent chose not to, and now he is looking at being sent down or cut. If he had had the surgery, he would have likely been ready to go by now.
  9. I read on PHT that Hawkins will start the season with the Dash. Is this a done deal?
  10. Speaking of third basemen, I wonder how Kevin Youk is doing this spring? Now that he is clean shaven in Yankee tradition, he looks ten years younger, but, more importantly, if he has a bad spring, the Yanks will be looking somewhere for a 3B.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 25, 2013 -> 04:29 PM) An Indians' beat writer actually said this current team reminds him of the Indians teams in the 90s. Talk about someone who is going to be dissappointed. I wonder if Ubaldo is going to get it together this year. I think not.
  12. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 24, 2013 -> 08:01 AM) You are so full of s***. You just said Brian Sabean is a better GM than first year GM Rick Hahn in a thread about a trade the two of them just made. If that's not a clear indirect rip on this trade then I don't know what is. Any objective baseball fan would say that Sabean has the edge. Look at his credentials, his record. But it was not a rip. Just a comment.
  13. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 23, 2013 -> 08:13 AM) Clearly you're a fan because all you want to do is complain. You don't love the White Sox, you love whining, you love that the grass is greener throughout the neighborhood (though it's not). Just stop following the Sox for your sake and everyone else's. Are you having a bad day, Russ? All I did was make a simple, one sentence statement that the Giant GM (Brian Sabean) is very good. I didn't even criticize the trade. I have never seen Gillaspie play. It doesn't look like whining to me as I re-read my post, nor was that intended.
  14. No more Orlando Hudson-like additions to the roster.
  15. I recall that Stewart was very good when he pitched against Charlotte after we traded him. He probably is good enough to pitch there in 2013.
  16. I believe we signed four really young DR kids to significant bonuses last year, but they did not play. Anybody remember their names?
  17. Former closer. Throws hard. His MO is that he starts the season verry effectively, then seems to lose it late in season.
  18. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 11:05 AM) Since anyone complaining about Dayan Viciedo is a horrible thing in your opinion, I'll go off on your ridiculous homerism and your more ridiculous confidence that your way of thinking is so great. Viciedo's on base percentage is horrific, and he was worse than a replacement-level player offensively while providing no defense as a corner outfielder on a team that lost the division by 3 games - while he had an OPS of .660 after May. But keep slurping Dayan Viciedo and wearing your Sox-player blinders, Dick. 14 jacks over his last 100 games. Let's all roll out the red carpet for the future superstar and see nothing wrong with him ever! Viciedo has had one full season in the bigs. Who else on this team is likey to improve as much as this guy in 2013? No one I can think of. If he doesn't improve a lot, then he'll be trade material, but I think he'll hit.
  19. MLB Network is very high on the Royals. John Smoltz picked them to win the division.
  20. Mariners re-acquired Mike Morse from Nats. Too bad we could not get him.
  21. Frank wasn't that bad in the field. He was very good at trapping short throws. He could not throw, but teams rarely took advantage of that, which always surprised me. Does anyone here remember him throwing to third?
