QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 09:45 AM) Yep. I have asked this a few times, and I am guessing by the lack of responses that it never has been done on this level, but what the biggest contract a team has ate completely like this? My guess without looking it up would be Kevin Brown of Yankees.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 09:18 AM) That other laughing sound is the entire league(save the Yankees) laughing at your idea of just DFA-ing Rios and eating the contract. No, they're laughing at the thought of White Sox stuck with playing Rios every day for the next 3++ seasons and NOT eating his contract.

Has Kenny Williams formally adopted Wes Whisler?
-
Once a player has so much big league service time, he cannot be sent to minors without his permission. Same thing as DFA, and Sox owe balance of contract, which is okay by me. Then, maybe Jerry R would have the ovaries to go public with what he really thinks of Kenny. Might as well do it with both Rios and Dunn, have a big party. At least if you cut Dunn, you don't have to feed him anymore. That laughing sound you hear is from the Toronto front office. Maybe a giggle or two from Wahington's front office, because they got a #1 draft pick out of it. Don't know about Dunn's agent.

Cooper hangs up on show after Dayan question

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 10:39 AM) In a postgame interview once Deion Sanders (who is kind of a dumbass) said that Jay Cutler is 18-0 when his QB rating is over 100 and then asked Brian Urlacher if he's ever pulled Cutler to the side and said "come on!" As stupid as that question is to ask a linebacker (does anybody really think Cutler or any other QB has games with his rating under 100 on purpose?) Urlacher's response was "that's not my job, I've got enough to worry about keeping the defense in line." Didn't talk out of turn, didn't create any controversy about him dissing his QB, none of that. Easy, too... Urlacher is also kind of a dick. My favorite Dijon Sanders moment was that incident with Tim McCarver on live TV back in the 90's. What an idiot. -
Kevan Smith did not play....Is he moving up?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 01:11 AM) Sending down a player who can play 4-6 different positions, depending on how you view him at SS and 3B, who has a bit of pop in his bat and hustles his ass off sounds like the exact type of move that is going to spark a team to a division clinching run. Lillibridge is out of options anyways and he's too valuable as a member of the bench to be outrighted. He's not going to go anywhere. I love it when Lillibridge is the subject of a debate. Kinda like our politicians talking about the price of a stamp when the govt might get shut down. He is not going to make a big difference, but, since you commented, just let me say that Lilli does not play much SS or 3B any more, he is almost strictly an OF; I haven't seen any pop in his bat recently; I still remember his sleepwalking play in CF (which I promised not to mention again). Now, if Kenny releases Omar, it changes everything. We need to find some offensive contribution in CF without sacrificing too much defense, and DeAza fills that bill and Lilli does not.

When was last time Morel hit a line drive? I did not see his hit the other day.

Sox "uncharacteristically quiet" on trade front

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 11:31 AM) You really want us to sell huh? Yes, particularly if it opens up a spot for Viciedo. -
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 08:33 PM) Semien went 2/5. Viciedo is 1/4 with 1 BB. 10 BB in his last 11 games. Without seeing his games, teams are prob pitching away from him, and would not be surprised if he has chased a few bad pitches as a result.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 22, 2011 -> 09:24 AM) I wouldn't be sending Lilli down or trading him. He is needed in the role he plays and he has done well. You send down or trade non-performers Lillibridge's stats are skewed because he had a few good games early. Nothing lately, while DeAza has played very well in AAA. Admitedly, I am still annoyed by his (Lilli) sleep walking play in Colorado, but it is also time to get over it, so I will. We can't send down our non performers (Dunn/Rios). On the surface, a Lillibridge/DeAza switch should not be significant, but the team is playing with such little pizzazz, maybe DeAza could provide some spark. Why shouldn't DeAza be rewarded?
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 10:58 AM) AAA numbers don't always translate into a succesful major league career, but I am almost ready to try anything. De Aza certainly gives his all from what I picked up from Spring Training. Viciedo too. Maybe the infusion of those two fellows would jump start the team offesne, but heaven forbid if they struggled for a couple weeks getting their feet wet in the bigs. Who goes down or who gets released or traded? Morel down and maybe our non-existent DH to the injury list? Send Lillibridge down.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 09:04 AM) What are they gonna do about it? If he wants to retire, he can retire. Sure, he CAN retire. But if he retires with $42 MM left on a guaranteed contract, the MLPA would be all over Dunn like white on rice, saying that he owes it to other to take the money, yadda, yadda.

FutureSox Mid-Season Top 25 Prospects List Posted
oldsox replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
What do you guys think of Pitcher Ryan Kussmaul at W-Salem? -
MLPA would never let Dunn just walk away from his contract.

QUOTE (spiderman @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 02:59 PM) Does this team deserve one last hurrah? They have shown through about 100 games to be roughly a .500 caliber team in a bad division. It's tough to give up in this division, but does trading Edwin Jackson and/or Carlos Quentin mean that they are? Should Williams re-tool some (moving Jackson and/or Quentin) to add perhaps 2-3 quality prospects that can help the team next season (plus Viceido) at a low cost? Remember, this team is still going to be hampered by Dunn, Rios and Peavy's contract's so the White Sox, with their attendance down as well, are going to have to find ways to be creative. As I have mentioned in other threads, the White Sox could argue that moving Jackson, and moving back to a 5 man rotation, makes the rotation stronger for the remainder of the season. The starter's innings are currently down, and although they are banking on Peavy staying healthy, they could go to a 4 man rotation come September. In my opinion, if they can land 2 (or maybe 3 if I can daydream) B level prospects for Jackson and Quentin, I make the move. I agree. Move those two guys, get prospects, promote Viciedo. Also do something with Lillibridge -- DeAza must be a better player -- AJ?? I have no idea of his trade value and he is a 5/10 guy, but I bet he would waive it. This team is going to be a 23 man roster equivelent next year. Offer Mark a contract for next year, see what he does. I watched game last night, that is one boring team. Painful.

QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 08:33 AM) I'm actually surprised that outside of Pierre's dropped balls early on, the outfield defense hasn't come back to bite this team in the ass more often. Have you forgotten about Lillibridge's sleepwalking play in CF in Colorado? Yes, the same Lillibridge who is the offensive juggernaut Ozzie used to replace Dunn in the Tuesday lineup against the KC lefty.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 01:28 PM) I'm with you on that. I'd actually cancel our season tickets for 2012 if that happened. Having said that, there is no way KW trades Viciedo. He refused to give him up last year. Don't remember hearing that he was being offered in trade talks in the past. IMO, Viciedo is one of KW's last signs of credibility as a GM. If he becomes a star hitter, it will take off some of the heat from some of his other moves, such as the Hudson deal. Why do you insist that Kenny would never trade Viciedo? Because that would make Kenny look stupid? Or incompetent?
-
QUOTE (OilCan @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 08:27 PM) Viciedo is starting to cool off in July, hitting .227. At least he gunned down a runner at home tonight. Viciedo has to be getting discouraged.

Even Pittsburgh fleeced Kenny a few years ago. What was the pitcher's name we got? I'm guessing 2003. Of course, he couldn't get anybody out, and he was going to be our #2 starter.

QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 08:41 PM) We need bats Kenny!!!! What, you don't like Lillibridge as a corner outfielder?
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 09:47 PM) He would not make sense for any team. He can't field. He is a rotten hitter at this point and he can't run either. We can hope, though. Question: Why did Kenny sign Teahen? Answer: Because he hit MB so well. Way to go, Kenny.

He says Dunn BA is worst since 1893. Can someone get the link for me?

From here, it looks as if it is very important to Ozzie that he get paid for 2012 from Sox even if he manages Marlins.
