  1. Sorry to change the subject.....But, on the other subject of former Sox farmhands, Mike Morse is having a big year for Washinton. Hitting over .300. 13 HR's, playing regularly at first. Morse was a throw in on the Jeremy Reed/Miguel Oliva trade to Mariners where we got Freddy Garcia. Morse turned out to be a much better hitter than Reed, surprising everyone.
  2. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 01:03 PM) Did Boggs replace Carney Lansford? Yes, good work. They overlapped one year, I believe. Lansford was another solid hitter, now hitting coach for the Rockies.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 12:28 PM) Link Just like politicians, Ozzie believes his own stuff.
  4. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 10:28 AM) He more than doubled his XBH from his first year in AAA to the second. Rather slappy before that. As I remember it, Boggs had crazy contact skills, and even crazier line-drive skills. IIRC, he once went nearly an entire season without a single infield popout. Don't think they kept LD% stats back then, maybe I'm wrong. I guess he was in the majors at 24, not 26. At any rate, he was unique, and most comps would also be HOF'ers, ala Carew. Thanks for Boggs' minor league stats. I stand corrected on his age -- 24, not 26. And only two yrs in AAA. It does seem like they kept in low minors a bit long, likely due to lack of power. I don't remember who he replaced at third for Boston. I hope we don't overlook Kuhn for same reason. Boggs certainly worked hard at his craft. When criticized for lack of speed, he hired his own speed coach to help his baserunning. I loved watching him hit. He got a lot of walks, too. He won a bunch of consecutive batting championships.. On the coincidence side, did you notice Boggs spent time at both Bristol and Winston-Salem??
  5. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 09:35 AM) Not that you were comparing Kuhn to Boggs or anything, but Boggs had 337 BB/134 SO in 662 Minor League games (2,647 AB). His minor league numbers may not be "sexy", but he was the definition of an 80 contact hitter throughout his career, Majors and minors. Not sure of your point..... Some posters say that Kuhn has no real tools, hence not much of a prospect. I have no idea what the Sox brass think, because they don't say much. I pointed out that they said the same thing about Boggs, kept him in the minors waaay too long before he got his chance, then he starred. Immediately. I'm advocating that we move Kuhn along to avoid the same thing. By the way, since you have access to Boggs' minor league stats, I would love to see them, at least his last year or two before his rookie year. Thanks.
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 11:54 PM) Kuhn is a legit prospect? Maybe by White Sox standards. Unless you believe he can maintain a .440 BABIP. Does Kuhn have one legitimate tool? Years ago, they said the same thing about Wade Boggs. They kept him in minors for years, until age 26 I believe. No power, no speed, average defense, etc. Finally, he stuck with BoSox and he hit something like .360 his rookie year and won the batting title. Eventually got 3000 hits and a HOF career. He became a better hitter in majors. Who's to say it won't happen for Kuhn? At least give him a chance to succeed.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 09:08 AM) Teams will sign guys to minor league contracts for six figures sometimes. Josh Fields is getting over half a mil from Rockies for his minor league contract. Third base insurance policy.
  8. If the only voters for Baseball GM of the year were the GM's themselves, Kenny would win in a landslide. They love him.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 12:25 PM) Adam Dunn in the outfield is a laughable thought. You just know he's going to cost us a game or two at first or in the outfield. KW, what's so difficult about realizing we've been shut out 10 times and the lineup needs more punch? If Oz won't go along, fire him. Juan is the odd man out so Viciedo should be up and fast. If Rios ever got his head out of his ass, it'd be a decent offensive outfield of Dayan, Rios and CQ, thought I'd rather see it be Dayan, Lilly/Rios splitting time, and CQ. I saw Dunn play several games in outfield for Wash. Brutal.
  10. QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 02:01 AM) How good would this team be? 1. Lillibridge LF 2. Ramirez SS 3. Quentin RF 4. Konerko 1B 5. Young CF 6. Allen DH 7. Pierzynski C 8. Beckham 2B 9. Morel 3B 1. Buehrle 2. Danks 3. Floyd 4. Hudson 5. Gio CL Santos Sweeney would be in outfield.
  11. If Tank were a part of any other organization, he would be in the majors now. I think there is a better chance of Kenny calling up Whisler than Tank.
  12. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 09:29 PM) KW has truly sodomized this organization with his horrific and short-sighted moves the last 3+ years. Right On. But, I never see any evidence that he brought on the carpet. This is the Age of Accountibility, except for our GM.
  13. Swisher now leading off for Yanks with Jeter on DL. Marquez part of the bullpen still.
  14. I wish I could be a fly on the wall when Kenny negotiates a bad trade like this. Hudson for Jackson is bad enough. How was he convinced to throw in Holmberg, too? Given the big difference in salary between the two principles, I would think that we should be getting one of their prospects.
  15. ...And, why would he want to sign with Sox?
  16. D-backs so far. Haven't seen reports from anyone else.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 12:09 PM) It's ludicrous to lump those 3 together. Weren't they all #1 draft picks? All pitchers. Maybe McCullough was a #2? Doesn't seem ludicrous at all.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 07:01 AM) Is that really unusual? Rockies have signed 13 draft picks as of 6/14.
  19. Poreda, Broadway, McCullough. That's quite a Hat Trick. Wonder if the same Scouting personnel pulled the trigger on all three??
  20. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 04:48 PM) Sweet, I believe McCullough was the last "bad" 1st round draft pick that was still in the White Sox minor league system. Let's start anew with Beckham, Mitchell, and Sale. FYI, K McCullough still in Cinci system, now at AA.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 11:40 AM) I know a few weeks ago, people were saying that the Marlins wouldn't be an option for Ozzie since they were doing so well. Since then, they've imploded and look to be on their way to a disappointing season. Just something to keep an eye on for the next few months. Marlins get their long awaited new ball park next year. Would not surprise me if they got a big name manager for PR if nothing else.
  22. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 08:47 AM) Not sure if this was posted but.. Edwin Jackson vs Daniel Hudson, Friday. I would hope J4L has scout seats for this one. Maybe the DBacks will bring up Brandon Allen for the series. He's having a decent year at AAA Reno. 60 games, .299 BA, 9 HR, 39 RBI.
  23. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 10:11 PM) I went to a game and he was in the bullpen. He was not used to ignoring fans. I screamed "HEY AARON!!! HEY AARON!!" He turned around "Yeah?". I was completely shocked he acknowledged me. I panicked and blurted out "Uh....we are friends on facebook!". He gave me a thumbs up. I am such an idiot. You're not an idiot, just a baseball fan.
  24. Padres designated Aaron Poreda for assignment today.
