  1. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 05:40 PM) Don't forget to blame the players association. Selig started drug testing in the minors long before the players union agreed to it. He isn't innocent by any stretch but he tried and it took congress to get the MLB players to agree to it. Totally agree. MLPA had opportunity to come down hard on steroid abuse, and they used it as a bargaining chip.
  2. Kenny's professional hero is Josh McDaniels.
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 09:17 AM) I already consider him a bust. He isn't very good. Maybe that will one day change, but as of now, I see nothing that I like offensively. What would you do, Jason? Send him down to AAA, move him back to SS?
  4. For what it's worth Dunn hit some bombs at batting practice.
  5. There was a similar play in middle of game when Rios was in; he jogged over and lobbed the ball to second, baserunner could have scored easily. He went from first to third, coach could have waved him in. I was at the game, Rios looked liked he was on muscle relaxers.
  6. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 10:46 PM) can someone explain what happened? I missed the early part of the game. Rios dropped a fly ball? Colorado pitcher hit a lazy fly ball to medium deep right center, Rios jogged over in a semi hot dog fashion and dropped it. Next guy went out, no harm. Later in the 13 inning, Lilli dogged it and let Tulo score from first on two out single.
  7. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 10:32 AM) I don't get these posts, and there were a few. The "I saw Adam Dunn play in person in the NL and he sucked". So you saw him hit 40 homers, 100 RBI and score 100 Runs and thought he sucked? What? I saw him try to play right field, and he was awful. I saw him try to play first, and he was awful. He certainly wasn't going to get any better. Giving him that much money for that long blew my mind. No other DH is getting that, with the possible exception of Papi. And, he doesn't have a four year gig. My first negative post was in ST; like everyone else, I wanted him to do well. But anyone who can't run and can't field should not be offered a contract like his, 40 homers a year notwithstanding.
  8. Whether you guys are right about Kuhn or wrong, he should go to the next level now and see if he regresses or coninues to hit. Then, if he does well at AAA, we will continue the discussion.
  9. OldSox will be right behind the Sox dugout tonight
  10. Giving Dunn $56MM is one of the things wrong with baseball and wrong with our GM. Living in a National League city, I have seen Dunn try to play the game in the last couple of years, and he was awful. No National League team was going to give him any serious money, so his only chance was to get a DH gig in the AL. Who was Kenny competing against? Are there any full time DH's getting anywhere near the money that Dunn is getting? Big Papi maybe, but look at his record. Didn't Thome kind of set the market for this type of player? I just don't get Kenny Williams. Regardless, I'll be at the games in Denver this week. Tonight, I'll be right behind the Sox dugout. At least, I won't have to watch that slug try to play baseball.
  11. I'm glad Kenny is not running our government or Defense Dept.
  12. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 08:15 AM) Kinda interesting. http://www.cnbc.com/id/43547482 RE: the above article on agent's fees....they almost always get paid up front.
  13. Seth Loman having solid season with B'ham. Hitting in the .290's with power, pretty much the same stats he had last year at W-S. He's 25 now, obviously improving. Wish they would speed up his progress and send him to AAA. If we don't protect him this off season, we stand to lose him.
  14. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 04:30 PM) LOL what does send Dunn on his way mean? Big contract in its first year. You have to live with him. Put him on the DL. Fractured brain.
  15. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 10:38 PM) For the third time this year, C.J. Retherford has been released. This time by the Detroit organization. Hawk loved him.
  16. I thought for sure Kenny would recall Harrell for the 17th time.
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 01:40 PM) His defense has been great and his bat continues to improve. Seems to be like he's been about exactly as advertised. And he should grow and as he grows he'll learn to drive a bit more. But he never had a ton of power and has never shown ridiculous patience. The beauty is he has always shown an ability to adjust and he's done that at the major league level. He will never be a regular all star at 3B though because he dosen't possess the overall power ability to do so. Morel has moved up every year. Give him one full year here, and I bet he'll develop his power next year. I hope it's for us.
  18. Dunn 0for4, 4 K's, 2 for 14 for the series. They should make up an injury and put him on the DL. This the worst performance of the year for him. Nothing good from playing him. No one on the bench wanted to talk to him...
  19. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 10:36 AM) The White Sox have hit .356 off of him in 3 career appearances to the tune of a 6.88 ERA. This is all 2008-2010, too. Dunn should be able to hit him.
  20. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 07:51 AM) I'm surprised Walker has not signed already as I would have thought the scouting staff would have known what the asking price is and what they were getting into with negotiations. With that, in case it happens, do teams get draft picks the following year as compensation if supplemental picks do not sign? NO.
  21. Could not help but notice that our 36 round pick from Virginia is the guy who made two fielding errors yesterday. Cody Winiarski. Hope he and the three guys from Cal sign quickly.
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 08:33 AM) He did play in 2010. Right. I saw that right after my psot.
  23. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 10:43 AM) LOL. Ever since I saw Mr. Baseball, I've wanted to spend some time in Japan and specifically their baseball world. Last I saw Fields was no longer on Colo Springs roster. Don't know where he went.
  24. QUOTE (Bruce_Blixton @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 09:56 PM) Rangel Ravelo is off to a hot start in Bristol, really like this kid. He's drawn comparisons to Mike Lowell, projectable power, hope his defense lets him stick at 3B. Drafted last year....Anyone know why he did not play in 2010? Still only 19.
  25. Aaron Miles and Jaime Carroll probably profiled like Kuhn is now, and they have turned out to be solid major league players who help teams win ball games. Who's to say our guy Kuhn doesn't have that kind of potential. Plus, he hits.
