Just read an article on Larry Walker in Denver Post -- He is out of baseball and would love a coaching gig. He had one of the best five year runs of all time (1997-2001). reat hitter, great defensive OF, etc.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 1, 2011 -> 09:37 AM) Eddie? What the heck are you talking about? Kenny. Sorry.

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ May 1, 2011 -> 04:59 AM) Dan Black's last 10- .500/.558/1.000. His ISO on the year is just under .300. Would be nice to see him at a higher level. Agreed. Sox moved 1B Wilkins to Dash -- ahead of Black. Both big guys from good college programs. I wonder who is considered the better prospect.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 1, 2011 -> 07:29 AM) Did you not learn anything last year? Do you not realize that performance can fluctuate? I'm not happy with the way the guy is playing either, but I doubt he is going to suddenly turn in to "as bad a hitter as I've ever seen." Do you think his career numbers are a hoax? That he wasn't really producing those numbers, but no one ever noticed because they weren't watching? And only now, that a bloodhound like yourself is on the scent, has he been discovered for the tremendous fraud that he is? I swear, some of you have the attention span of a goldfish. What do you have against goldfish? Dunn was a horrible acquisition. Way too much money. Eddie got himself into a terrible negotiating position. If he had to give up that much money, he should have just walked away. Even if Dunn hits like he did last year or two, given his age, you know his productivity would decline during this four year contract span. Then, we gave up a #1 draft choice to boot.. Dunn is the first aging slugger to lose it overnight. Eddie got outsmarted by Dunn's agent.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 29, 2011 -> 10:51 PM) But Marty, you didn't think the starting pitching would be great? "On paper" it again looked dominant. And the addition of Crain gave the Sox "on paper" a damn good bullpen. Games aren't played on paper. They are played on television.

GAME THREAD: Orioles @ Sox, 4/29, 7:10pm

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Apr 29, 2011 -> 05:56 PM) It stings my eyes to see a line-up featuring Lillibridge and Teahen in it, batting back-to-back, no less. Pacifist's Row? -
Pena is so bad that if we had kept Brandon Allen and made him a pitcher, he would be better than Pena.
-
I hear Kenny wants to give him a raise.
-
But, he is one of Kenny's better moves.
-
Something tells me Milledge would not have made those plays.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 08:16 AM) Too bad B-Ham is crowded with OF's, because Martinez needs a promotion. And I think we can say that Remenowsky is handling the jump to AA pretty well. Looks like there are a couple of OF's in Charlotte that can be moved or DL'ed to make room in B'ham.

In 2009 the Rockies were clearly an underachieving team. They fired Clint Hurdle, promoted Jim Tracy, and it was like a switch was turned on.

Thanks to you guys who contribute to the minor league games. I look forward to Future Sox posts.

I am not the type of fan who gets his nose out of joint because of a six game losing streak, but this franchise has done a U turn in the last couple of years that defies intelligent thought. It's going to be a tough road to reverse it, but some sort of shake up is required, Kenny. The moves of acquiring Rios, Peavy, and Dunn collectively are killers. The other bad moves are just window dressing. I don't know how Kenny survives, nor do I understand how the Chicago Press doesn't hang him out to dry. I'll be pulling for a win in NY, but I don't expect anything positive. That's my rant. No more negative posts from me.

On the subject of drafting football players, last year the Rockies took two. Kyle Parker, QB at Clemson, is tearing it up at Ashville (SAL); another guy, Russell Wilson, not so much.
-
First thing I would do is put Pierre, Rios, and Dunn on the DL. Bring up three from the minors. Those guys need to sit for a while and stay away. In two weeks, re-evaluate each. The second thing I would do would be to fire somebody. Sacrificial lamb, accountibility, whatever.

Does his batting average go to .100 or .200? If he goes 0 for 25, it's .100. If he goes 8 for 25, it's .200.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 01:18 PM) At least Thornton looked solid. Threw a TON of sliders. I think I only saw 4 fastballs, and everything else was sliders. He's now a two trick pony. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 10:58 AM) Perhaps, but Dunn was supposedly close to signing with the Tigers on Nov 17. A week later the Tigers signed Martinez for about the same amount of money Dunn received. A week after that Dunn signed with the Sox. If you're saying money will be no object for Pizza Pizza, and you may be correct, if they really wanted Dunn so badly why wouldn't they have just jacked up the bid a little higher? Money talks. Do you really think if KW called Dave Dombrowski up today and told him he'd like to give him Adam Dunn for an A Ball pitcher with a 10.00 ERA Dombrowski would say yes? no. -

How is Hawk handling this? Is he still blatently optimistic? Does he criticize at all? I don't get to hear hem very often. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 23, 2011 -> 11:07 AM) This couldn't be more wrong. Do you actually think some other team would pick up Dunn's contract? Go tell Kenny. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 23, 2011 -> 03:38 PM) One thing with Dunn is that if he can't turn it around against a sinker baller like Penny, then it might be a while still before he gets going. Scherzer will probably overmatch him tomorrow. Dunn is a classic zero tool player. We have him for another 600++ games. -
I saw Hudson pitch twice against the Rockies last year after the trade, and he was lights out. Unless he's hurt, I think he'll get it together this year.

You think someone wants Dunn's contract and is willing to give you prospects in exchange? Again, good luck with that. Amen.. Sox could not give away Dunn now. If they put Dunn on waivers, there would be no takers, IMO.
