QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 04:52 PM) Yeah, it's pretty brutal. Perhaps they're saving money to go towards payroll but hiring a child to do all signage work for them, not to mention a bizarre choice for the featured players. For anyone that can't see the link here's the billboard:

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 03:57 PM) LOL, yeah, because "the ship has sailed" was "news". Cowley's an idiot and Klaw rating the Crawford signing as an A+ and Paulie as a D is idiotic too.
-
Guys, Cowley is just an idiot that when not at work is stuck in his mothers kitchen trying to run a news service from his twitter that he writes all by himself. When his mothers kitchen isn't available, he just chills in Phil Rogers basement.

Crawford to Boston, $142 Million, 7 Years

f*** the Sawks and Yanks. Kenny is leaving this postseason a bandit. -
QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 01:10 AM) Totally.....and it's weird because when you look back at his baseball america descriptions, he's a "plus" defender. They even say he's capable of CF!! This is from December, 2005: Imagine him in CF.....lol I also don't see him going oppo too much unless he's late on a pitch. He has a pure-pull approach. Maybe he's a product of some Greg Walker coaching... I think he was one of the better defensive OF's in college and he was still pretty good until his D'back injuries.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 07:22 AM) Dear Quinarvy Be creative. Write the essay about the wide variety of bacteria and viruses you're exposed to on a typical day in Chicago. Sincerely -Balta Dear Balta The essay was quite possibly the most sarcastic thing I've ever written. And I've written a lot of sarcasm. - Quin

Phil Rogers got owned.

A second team in Chicago would not succeed unless they were good off the bat. I'd go to a few games if they were cheaper than the Bulls just to see NBA action, but they'd never scratch the Bulls in terms of my fandom, Chris Paul or not.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 06:49 PM) The plan for Dayan? I am guessing a quiet evening of ravaging the Old Country Buffet. Something to keep in mind; by the end of Dunn's contract, he'll only be 25.

I'd like to add Fuentes, Downs, Soriano, or Rauch. Heck, isn't Dotel a FA?

Dear Biology Teacher My god you suck at teaching. Not only do you teach our material after you require us to do the assignment, I am currently writing an essay about "My Day in Chicago". This is an AP Biology Class, not a 7th grade science course. This is why my paper is sarcastic. Sincerely, Dropping your class next semester.

QUOTE (chunk23 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 12:45 AM) Current Derek Jeter? No way But he's a Gold Glove, Silver Slugging, All-Star SS who is making $15M+ a year. What's not to like? Nothing.
-
So, if we resign Konerko, what are we doing with Viciedo? Does he start in AAA? Trade him? Or do we see if he can play LF or RF and give him some time there, third, and first so that he gets at bats? Maybe even become the right fielder?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 08:17 PM) If you are so sure that Alexei Ramirez is simply "OK," I challenge you to find 5 other shortstops who you would rather have instead of him. And Troy Tulowitski doesn't count. Derek Jeter

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 09:40 AM) That's a fair point, but it is staggering to think that if the NBA took two picks from the Heat and depending on who which they took, the Heat could have only two first round picks between now and 2017. (It should be noted that "The Big Three" contracts expire after the 2015-2016 season. For reference, the initial penalty of the Joe Smith tampering was 5 first rounders and a year voided off Joe Smith's contract. So, going by that precedent, the Heat would lose what few first rounds they have left, a year off Bosh and LeBron's contracts, and since they traded all their picks, they'd probably lose the MLE. If tampering can be proven, then the Heat will be screwed.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 11:27 AM) Kenny seemed really tickled at the idea of getting Roy Halladay to fill out the rotation last year. It wouldn't suprise me if he went all in to get another big-time arm. If Kenny did that then he really, really, really wants to win next year. And is hoping that the revenue offsets the payroll.

QUOTE (sircaffey @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 02:14 PM) Viciedo is on a major league deal though. He makes millions currently and is arbitration eligible soon. Rizzo is team controlled for years. That's a big difference. But Viciedo is also ready right now.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) We can't trade Sale yet, and even in a few days when we can PTBNL him, we have that mess where he can't be moved out of our system until June but he's actually property of the Padres. Hudson + Viciedo...if Hudson had had a similar August/September for us to what he had with AZ, might have actually been close. I'd have to think Hudson, Viciedo, and Flowers would have been a good deal compared to this, especially after Hudson took off in the NL West.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) Am I crazy, or do I see somewhere around 15 outs made at the wall there that would be homeruns in US Cellular? You'd be right.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 01:56 PM) With our terrible farm system? Not a prayer. We have no one that compares to Kelly or Rizzo. Dayan compares better to Rizzo. Rizzo took more walks at AA at the same age, but Viciedo hit almost .20 points higher in his first season in American ball. Kelly has potential, but he was nothing spectacular in AA. Sale beats Kelly easily in my opinion.

QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 01:50 PM) And you base that on what exactly? Further, I could give rat's ass how much they would be in the hole (if that were true, which I doubt). If they can't afford to run a major league team in this city, they have no business owning one. Do you think the fans in New York, Boston and LA care about that? Why should we? Because having a team in debt would be bad. And it's different for the Sox then compared to the Yankees or Red Sox, because the Cubs happen to also play in this city and absorb most of the city's fanbase. And if they were in the red, which being at a $180M payroll certainly would have them in red, then we'd basically mortgage our future and have to become what the Cubs are; a poor team due to big contracts with high ticket prices to pay those off.
-
Wow. Jed Hoyer giving Boston a discount much? I gotta believe if we had wanted AGon, we could have matched that, even with our awful system.

QUOTE (VAfan @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 11:02 PM) It is obvious the Sox are trying to sign Konerko, now that Dunn is in hand. And I think that's a fine choice, unless Konerko is looking for a 4 year deal. Two years with an option would be ideal. Perhaps 3 years would be the compromise solution. But I wonder if the Sox would be better off with Jayson Werth instead of Konerko. I love Paulie, but from a pure baseball perspective, what would be better? Werth would give us a plus right fielder. His offense has improved each of the last 4 years. He's 31 instead of 34, which means we'd be getting years with the potential for upside, and much less potential for a slide. Konerko has had injury issues in the past, and is slow as molasses. Werth can actually steal a base, and almost never gets caught. With Werth in RF, Dunn would play 1B, and Quentin would DH. That make it easier to keep him healthy. He could play LF occasionally. What I don't know is how much Werth is demanding. He made only $7.5 mill last year, so he'll surely want a big raise. But if he came at the same price as Paulie, which would make for a better team? (Who would back up 1B? Teahan could, as could Viciedo.) Werth would be in RF, Dunn at DH, and Viciedo would be 1B. Quentin won't be on this team if we get a right fielder.

I am so amped. Now resign PK already!
