  1. Beltran cleared http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/08/carl...rs-waivers.html
  2. I'd be all over a Carlos Beltran acquisition. And in Sept. when Carlos Torres gets called up, we match the Cubs for the lead league in Carlos's
  3. I wouldn't fire Ozzie. But he'd never get input at all again into building the roster.
  4. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 09:59 PM) If we had resigned Thome though, there might not have been a roster spot for Kotsay But he's so f***ing flexible! What would we do without an average **** bat, an average 1B glove, and a guy who can't play OF any more.
  5. QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 09:53 PM) He must hate him? Geezus... This is how rumors start. No... Ozzie does NOT hate Thome. He repeatedly over and over talks about how much respect he (and the entire organization) has for Thome. The bottom line is that he (and probably Kenny) felt they didn't want to disrespect Thome by bringing him back for a pittance this season after the big contract he had here... and then have him only play in a reserve role. They felt it would be an uncomfortable situation for everyone. In situations like that, it's easier to have someone move on and let the new team make that decision. The mistake Ozzie Guillen made was in thinking Thome was a poor fit for this team compared to Mark Kotsay because on-base percentage is nothing compared to flexibility. Fixed.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 09:18 PM) Did anyone expect that, once he got on base with 2 outs in the first inning, there would be any other result other than a CS by him? It's grindy bay-by! He's a P-T-Per with that grind bay-by!
  7. Before the game, wasn't Ozzie saying something about how he couldn't have Thome on this roster? What a joke he is at times (when it comes to his stupid man-crushes)
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 07:36 AM) I'm not sure of that. I know everyone says that Ozzie loves Kotsay therefore Kotsay will always play full time if he's with the team... but once Teahen is back, I think its actually possible that Kotsay is indeed let go... and if not, will play less often. I place the odds at 70/30 that Kotsay is the one Kenny dumps because of how much Kenny has been hunting for a bat.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 07:27 AM) This was the first bad series the team has played, basically, since the first week of June. That's two months, and that's pretty amazing. This was bound to happen eventually, and it happened on the road, against an underachieving team who just got a new manager. Losing 3 of 4 is nothing to panic about, at all. The only really scary thing is the offensive woes, and the fact that the Sox are still without a major league DH. Not sure there is any way to address that at this point, but perhaps getting Teahen back might help a bit, if he plays over Kotsay. That will only happen if Kotsay is DFA'd
  10. QUOTE (zenryan @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 12:07 AM) I'm so tired of the "who would have thought 2 months ago we'd be here" point. Who cares, all that is in the past now. All that matters is where this team is now going forward, not where they came from. Who would have thought 2 months ago you could be in a position to make this post?
  11. Is there any rule against hiring an assistant manager? I say this, because Cora will always be bench coach as long as Ozzie is here.
  12. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 11:45 PM) Well said. Your mind shouldn't be stuck in May and April thinking how great it would be if this team is at its current position. You should be thinking about the team in its current situation - and that's tied in a pennant race after a horrid series. Now if we were to look back on the season at the end of it and we came up short, it might be nice to think how great this team had to play to get back into it. But to think of it like that now, that's almost a defeatist attitude.
  13. QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 09:11 PM) lebron is so good he can throw the ball off the backboard to himself and dunk it one handed......vs a bunch of 7 year olds http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=5448600&a...egoryid=2378529 Small child, I shall now dunk on you.
  14. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 10:27 PM) Harper High School (64th and Wood) the school down the street that all the dummy kids went to that could barely read and we made fun of. Ah, gotcha.
  15. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 10:22 PM) 1998, sophomore year vs. Harper, I wanted a fastball and he gave me one belly button-high and I hit it like 420 feet to dead center. It felt awesome. I didn't even know I could do that. Bryce Harper's older brother or another Harper?
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 08:08 PM) Heidenreich might be something. I hope so, I have a friend who's last name is Heidenreich that is a Cubs fan, and said he would consider becoming a Sox one if Heidenreich makes the bigs.
  17. In my road to the show, the Twins added Carl Crawford, Johnathon Broxton, and K-Rod.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 07:39 AM) No one will be happier about Jackson shutting me up than me. We really need a stopper today to avoid losing 3/4 to the lowly Orioles. At least Jackson did his part.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 09:20 PM) Exactly. This team was 9.5 games out with the same cast of characters. No one was talking about the great chemistry then. They have proven they can be great with this roster and they can be awful with this roster. Hopefully, KW can get another bat, but it certainly doesn't look good. They just lost 3 of 4 to Baltimore and still are in first place, so not all is bad. Tied for first*
  20. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 09:14 PM) As a Weaver Ball guy, this team makes me want to put my head through the wall. Ozzie manages against every sabermetric principle in the book. He has no idea how to optimize the potential offensive output of the group of guys he wanted. I get it that saber isn't the end all be all way to baseball, but the fact that Ozzie goes out of his way to ignore it is infuriating.
  21. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 09:09 PM) THIS. I never understood why people love giving up outs, especially with hitters at the top of the order. Because it's so GRINDY. Now theres not even that whole "Well, they're in first place with Ozzie Ball" argument." f***.
  22. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 09:02 PM) Don't tell me that a lineup with both Kotsay and Jones in it doesn't thrill you. What are you talking about they both deserve better at bats. Jesus f***ing christ damnit Ozzie.
  23. Impressive swan dive at least by Carlos. We can see him bat in a few weeks when he's off the DL.
  24. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 08:52 PM) I've long conceded Miggy as the AL MVP. I'm just saying PK should get some votes or whatever. I still think MVP should go to the most valuable player for a playoff team and that there should be some sort of offensive equivalent of the Cy Young, thus allowing pitchers to also be MVPs.
