  1. I don't think Kenny wants to trade Santos for some reason. Holmberg/Rodriguez/Santeliz/Nunez/Bellamy/Torres That's 4 BP arms and 2 starters, right?
  2. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 04:02 PM) 1. Putz is a 7th inning guy who has been lights out. But to keep a middle reliever instead of getting an everday player does not make any sense. There are others in the organization that can handle that role, not to the extent that Putz has, but odds are that he will come back to earth sooner than later. 2. Yes he is not on the level of Dunn or Fielder, though he is signigicantly cheaper and under team control for six years as opposed to two months for Dunn or 14 months for Fielder. 3. They could or they could have all of those players plus Alonso which would give them a lot more payroll flexibility to sign someone another reliever and starter in the offseason. 4. From all reports it wit least two of those three to get a deal done at this point, and the rumors are that teams are not very high on Hudson. Sure Dunn will net you two draft pill take acks next year, but I would rather have Beckam and Viciedo. 5. Agree. 6. I dont think Alonso is a downgrade from Kotsay either and it allows Kotsay to be used in a role that is better for him as a PH. I think Alonso is on the uptick and you could compare his season this year to Beckhams, both started the year slow and both have started to turn it around. LaRoche and Werth would be rentals and do little to keep the team competitive in the long term, which would be one more hole to fill in the offseason besides PK and AJP. Baustista is a fluke akin to Richard Hidalgo and will get too big of raise for his career level or production, Scott is a DH who could not even handle 1B last season for the O's and his production is outside of its norms this year as well so there will likely be some cooling off by him as well. I think someone like Alonso is good enough to put this team over the top without sacrificing much in the way of the future of the franchise and can keep the team competitive in the division for years. You could use the money that would be saved to go after a C or re-sign AJ, get an SP, and two more relievers for the pen as well as sign Thornton to an extension. 1. Putz has shut down offenses. That is invaluable and he was probably the best closer in baseball a few years ago. 2. Kenny would try to resign Fielder or Dunn, and he'd net 2 draft picks if not. Fielder puts fans in the seats, Alonso doesn't. 3. Alonso is faaaaaar from a sure thing. They won't need another reliever if they trade Bobby, because they'll probably sign Putz and Putz-Thornton-Santos-Pena-Bellamy (I think he could make it)-Linebrink is still a good pen. They won't need a starter because they'll have Peavy-Danks-Buehrle-Floyd-Sale/Hudson 4. Kenny is not giving up Gordon for anyone not named Pujols. He'd give up Dayan, Hudson, and Flowers for Fielder though, and one of them for Dunn. 6. Alonso is in AAA. He wouldn't be ready to contribute until at least next year.
  3. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 01:29 PM) That was real interesting. You could tell Hahn was thinking, "WTF is Kenny thinking?" I kinda agree with Rick on this because I think it is near impossible to make a two-way player a Major Leaguer. There is no way a MLB player could be that good at both. If there were, it would have happened by now. But by allowing a player to split time between being a position player and pitcher is doing a disservice to that player and stunting his growth on both. In the pros, you pick the one you will be best at and stick it there. If that doesn't work, then try to Santos route, but it's just unrealistic to attempt to be a two-way player. George Herman Ruth.
  4. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 04:48 PM) Mark Kotsay's been worth -0.8 WAR so far. Quite frankly, everybody that hasn't played for the White Sox this year has been better than him. I can now say I'm worth more than Mark Kotsay! Where's my million bucks?
  5. He said "we" a lot. I almost just want to sign T-Mac because of his excitement. He really seems like he knows he'd have to earn that starting spot by playing well enough to get it.
  6. QUOTE (chwhtsox @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 09:52 AM) but would Steve Stone think that's significant is the question... We'll get someone but I'm willing to bet, that someone is a name nobody's heard and we didn't even know he was available. Well, he did say Freddy Garcia should be an All-Star.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 10:41 AM) Evil things that desecrate the memory of 9/11: Muslims anywhere near the WTC site. Wonderful things near that site that deserve our loyalty: strip clubs Uhm, what's more patriotic than boobs?
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 10:55 AM) Ok, some of the ridicule is still fun. Those guys visited Comic-on this weekend. The counter protest...brought glory upon the hypno-toad. Suddenly, the world got more awesome.
  9. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 09:20 AM) If it's not Dunn or Fielder, I don't think you have anything to worry about. I bet Dunn signs a contract extension with the Nats this week. And Fielder is too expensive. I don't think KW is going to give the Brewers what they want for him. What else would be huge? (Adrian!)
  10. Will it be on CSN or just Comcast On Demand? If it's the latter, I'm sad.
  11. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 11:16 PM) If they got a 75-80% T-Mac, the Bulls are one of the rare teams that could challenge the Heat/Lakers. It wouldn't be long if/when he supplants Brewer for the starting role if he is even around that percentage for the former superstar. (especially as a legit threat from the perimeter even if he hasn't been that good at all through-out his career, but just the "threat" he possesses greatly helps Derrick) Now, as of last week and throughout most of the process, I wanted nothing to do with him. (much rather sign Roger Mason and call it an off-season) But seeing some reports of the Clippers brass (though that isn't saying much) like him, Stan Van Gundy's comments of slurping him when he worked out for them, him being one year and six months removed from surgery, being my favorite player in the late 90s early 2000s (still have his Toronto and Magic jerseys when I was younger) a few youtube highlights of him playing last year trying to tell me hes "still got it" and the only game I caught of him playing was his first game where he played very well versus the Thunder is affecting my better judgment. (especially if/when he is basically useless in an up-tempo style transition and forces Derrick to slow down and use more half-court sets when they are running) Same here. The low risk high reward factor is very enticing.
  12. That would mean the Sox have plus fielders at 5 positions (Omar, Alexei, Rios, AJ, Pierre), 2 above average ones (Gordon, Paulie), and 2 bad one/great ones depending on day(Quentin/Some Pitchers vs. Jones/Buehrle-Santos)
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 08:23 PM) If that's the case, the Bulls would have a very good shot at the Eastern Conference finals. BTW, nothing is for certain with this deal. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/...on-mcgrady.html If T-Mac got Comeback Player of the Year, the Bulls would have an amazing season.
  14. Go around the concourse, visit things like the speed pitch for fun, visit the hat store. If it's a kid, Fundamentals deck is a must.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 07:41 PM) There's tons of rumors that teams are frustrated that there's not a lot of good relievers on the market. If the Sox pay for some of Jenks' remaining salary, I think we could get some good prospects. This would be intriguing to say the least...
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 06:53 PM) We got the Noah pick in the trade with the Knicks right? Yes. I almost feel bad for the Knicks.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 07:12 PM) Value added poor grammar post of the minute. I think you're overreacting J4L, but I do understand your point of view. This is why this place is nicer after wins.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 06:34 PM) They traded Lee because they didnt have the prospects necessary to get Halladay. The prospects they traded for Doc were all from the Phillies farm system. The Lee deal was cost + trying to restock the farm after getting Doc. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 07:00 PM) 2007: ARZ turns Chris Carter, Brett Anderson, Aaron Cunningham, Dana Eveland, Carlos Gonzalez and Greg Smith into Dan Haren and Connor Robertson 2010: ARZ turns Dan Haren into Joe Saunders, Patrick Corbin, Rafael Rodriguez and Tyler Skaggs Um, wow. That is 1000000000 times worse than the Swisher trades.
  19. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 01:50 PM) Jeremy Reed is 1/1 with a 2-run HR. .314 AVG. I am rooting for ya buddy! This is just funny at this point. That would be the ultimate feel-good story.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 05:52 PM) Bunting? I...love bunting... OZZIE BALL MOTHERF***ERS
  21. Hawk calling Viciedo 'Tank' now. Hah! Take that 'HoT FiRe' (I'm just kidding Joe)
  22. I still can't believe that got the job done for the D-Backs. Surely they could have gotten more than Saunders + 'spects
  23. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/07/ange...e-saunders.html Huge blow to the Tigers.
