  1. Buehrle shined on the Anniversary of Awesome
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 07:26 PM) It is? It's one of the most unoriginal, and more importantly retarded, nicknames in sports history. I thought this WAYYYY before the "Decision." Only because of the fact that there we're a lot of King James' throughout history. I still didn't like it due to the fact he had no rings.
  3. I kept falling asleep, but caught a lot of the pitching and saw Buehrle pitched well on his anniversary.
  4. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 04:47 PM) GOP Rep. And TN-GOV Candidate Wamp: States Might Have To 'Consider Separation From This Government' Gotta love election season over-the-top rhetoric. Do it. I want to see them just try it and realize what a cluster**** they'd be in. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 06:36 PM) This is hilarious. I'm going to use this next time someone starts trying to paint me into a corner with manufactured stereotypes. The writer left out the part about the baby-killing though. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/7/23/88...th-a-Republican
  5. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 06:13 PM) Stimulus and other things that are mandated that has nothing to do with the president in office at the time. Anyway yeah that's mostly true. It's really not that complicated and the idea that Obama came in office and blew up the deficit is absurd on its face. That's not how the federal budget works from year to year. The screaming over the 2009 budget was funny to because that was still Bush's budget which despite 2 years of Dem control of Congress was on a trajectory largely set on by Republican policies (Dems didn't really do anything and if they did Bush would've vetoed it so I'm not really listening to anybody who wants to lie about how they remember things. Hell, Sarah Palin said it in her convention speech and I bet they cheered or fist-pumped that line.), mostly the tax cuts and the wars. This is not so much assigning blame or pointing fingers as it is just stating things how they happened. This one counselor at a camp I went to this summer thought he was so clever bringing up federal spending to slam Dems, yet he refused to acknowledge the fact that it was largely based on Republican policies.
  6. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 04:31 PM) Very interesting piece- Paul bends to King James’ rule King James' Rule? I'm pretty sure he no longer should be allowed to use the King moniker. King's don't play second fiddle and win rings. King James is a great nickname, but bad now for him. Maybe something like "The Decider" for him would be better. Also, the Bulls depth/flexibility to make trades is what sets this team up to do just about anything the next few years.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) Honestly, after the top 8, the whole rest of the list could be ranked almost anywhere - its a pool of low ceiling role players ready to go or medium potential guys further away from ready or high potential but just got started. The combo of an already thin system, some underperformers (Retherford, Nunez, Gartrell, Leesman among others) and injuries to 5 of the Top 25 guys really make the list weak. Fortunately, it's still a very good Top 8, and the next group (Gilmore, Gonzalez, Escobar, Short) I think will all take a huge leap.
  8. **** Mark Kotsay. One year ago, we had Josh Fields at first and it felt better then Kotsay. It's also the Anniversary of Awesome.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 12:02 PM) The Twins are interested too, but Haren can block a trade to both the Twins and Tigers. That'd be stellar if they agreed to a trade and Haren turned it down. Kinda like Peavy, but without a few months to reconsider.
  10. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 12:10 PM) I may be the only one, but I am not a fan of going 12 deep on a roster. I think it screws the minutes up for the better players. Here is what I predict for the minute distribution this year: PG: Rose (35 minutes), Watson (13 minutes) SG: Brewer (30 minutes); Korver (10 minutes); FA or Johnson (8 minutes) SF: Deng (33 minutes); Korver (10 minutes); Johnson (5 minutes) PF: Boozer (35 minutes); Gibson (13 minutes) C: Noah (35 minutes); Gibson (10 minutes); Thomas/Asik (3??) I just don't see how the numbers align with all this depth. I would much rather have eight strong player than 12 above-average players. Taj deserves 20+ minutes per game easily, but if he does, Asik/Thomas get nothing. You can't take away from Noah. Gonna be some minute problems. I see it like this: I see Boozer and Noah getting just a few less minutes (33ish) to keep them some rest during games.
  11. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 12:10 PM) Grindy. I was ranting in the Chat the other day about Mark Kotsay, I think I used the term "Best All Around Player" and "All Teams Need a Mark Kotsay" and "Shut Up Ed Farmer"
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 12:52 PM) your nevada teapartyin senator candidate http://www.mynews4.com/story.php?id=23466 Ah, gotta love it. "Questions? No, that would involve being upfront and stuff, and you know who was upfront with his political views? HITLER." Lewis Black/Glenn Beck creating the 1 Degree of Hitler is the greatest thing ever.
  13. If we sign a sniper like Mason, we will only have 1 garbage time player, and that's JJ. And if that's the case, then I'd like to use the last three roster spots on guys like Bouldin, Byars, and Alexander for garbage time with I'm going to assume JJ and Asik (though I think Asik will get regular minutes). First Team PG: Derrick Rose SG: Ronnie Brewer SF: Luol Deng PF: Carlos Boozer C: Joakim Noah Second Team PG: CJ Watson SG: [Free Agent Signing] SF: Kyle Korver PF: Taj Gibson C: Kurt Thomas Third Team PG: Matt Bouldin SG: Derrick Byars SF: James Johnson PF: Joe Alexander C: Omer Asik That is really some amazing depth there.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 08:22 AM) Breaking heyman news. Thanks! All the trade speculation makes me hate the Peavy injury that much more.
  15. QUOTE (kane0730 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 08:16 AM) Per Heyman: "chisox like prince fielder but have discussed dunn, laroche and berkman, in that order, as possible 2nd choices." At this point, I'd be happy with any of these 4 guys. This makes me ecstatic.
  16. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 04:54 PM) Fielder owns handcuffs? Large people are kinky like that?
  17. This makes me want Kenny to free Alex Gordon even more.
  18. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 07:11 PM) Ha I have to ask why after a statement like that. Viciedo is younger than Flowers by a couple years and has greatly outperformed him this year. That trumps the value of a catcher. Hmm, I thought I put that I would have had it: Hudson, Sale, Dayan, Flowers, Mitchell. I thought that Flowers would be voted higher (I like Viciedo far more, really don't like Flowers) because he always seemed to get a lot of love for being power catcher.
  19. Guys. One year ago, was a Perfect game. Today, Mark Buehrle pitches. Edit: Finally, Bruce Levine is not covering the Sox on espnchicago http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/white-sox/...n-quentin-trade
  20. Caulfield laying down great arguments. Also, the return of the Jose avatar! Greg, in the other thread where I said I give Bobby a C, I change that to a C- for a few reasons. 1) We're in a tight pennant race. 2) His three setup men, Putz, Thornton, and Sergio have an A+, A, and A- respectively. 3) He is capable to be a far better pitcher, it just seems like he refuses to as caulfield pointed out.
  21. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 04:27 PM) What would you have done, Flowers 3, Sale 4? I had Sale at #2 personally. I didn't expect Dayan to be #2, I thought he'd be #4 and Flowers would be 3. I would have had it like it is (top 5 wise), but I didn't expect it to be that way.
  22. Chris Paul joins the list of "superstars" who have no rivalry instinct of beating the best. I now hate him and the Miami Threegos
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 01:04 PM) The Sox aren't going to be able to complete a trade with Washington with just the assets in the minor league system. It's going to take atleast one of Viciedo or Hudson. If Williams can prove me wrong and acquire Dunn while not dealing Viciedo or Hudson, and keeping an elite talent like Trayce Thompson in the system, I'll be blown away. I'll bake Kenny Williams a ****ing cake.
  24. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 03:10 PM) 1) Putz is not a luxury on this team, he's a necessity. You don't trade him to "get value" for him, because his value is highest to the White Sox. And yes, trading a middle reliever when the only two sure-things in the pen are the reliever in question and one other is absolutely ridiculous. The only two pitchers that I see as being able to consistently get guys out are Putz and Thornton. Santos has stuff, but has gotten knocked around a bit over the past month or so. Pena is a mediocre middle reliever and nothing more. Linebrink can't be trusted in any game the Sox are within 4 runs of the opposition. Threets is journeyman fodder. Jenks has proven to be positively mediocre this entire year. Trading Putz, at this point in time, is absolutely absurd to even consider. 2) Alonso is going to cost significantly less than Dunn or Fielder because he is significantly worse than Dunn or Fielder. You can't use a 10 game sample and declare that a guy has figured it out. Otherwise, Tyler Flowers would be the starting catcher for the Sox. It's entirely possible he got lucky on the balls he put into play during that time period. Further, that line alone tells me I don't want him simply because he's hitting for singles and doubles while drawing the occasional walk (what is that, maybe 4 walks in 10 games?), because an Iso of .079 is Erstadian in stature. 3) The Sox could also afford to go Viciedo-Beckham-Ramirez-Morel. Or Teahen-Beckham-Ramirez-Viciedo. Or they could quite conceivably spend a little bit of money on their infield because they aren't the Florida Marlins. Just because they don't have a lot of money to work with next year doesn't mean they have absolutely none at all. 4) For whatever reason, you assume that I am willing to deal Hudson, Viciedo, and Beckham for Dunn. This is simply not the case. Further, you assume that, if the Sox did, for whatever reason, deal Hudson, Viciedo, and Beckham for Dunn, that they wouldn't go out and try to find replacements from outside the organization, when during Williams' tenure, that's been the main source of finding players. Finally, if Washington is going to deal Dunn, it really should only take one of Viciedo or Hudson (because Beckham is obviously not available) plus other players within the minors, and it may be entirely possible that Williams is able to make a deal otherwise. 5) I would say Fielder is completely out of the picture. The Brewers want pitching badly, and they apparently view Hudson as a #3 or #4. That, to me, suggests that any deal between the two teams is virtually impossible. 6) I don't necessarily believe that Alonso is an upgrade over Kotsay. His numbers in the minors this year, according to minor league splits, translate to a .233/.287/.343/.630 line in the majors. His July would be nice, but then again, Kotsay's had nice splits too. Beyond ANY of this, this is only assuming the Sox deal for Dunn or Fielder. They could easily acquire Luke Scott, Adam LaRoche, Jose Bautista, or Jayson Werth too, and they could simply stand pat and let Teahen DH for a while too. Williams won't make a move unless it meets his price.
  25. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 02:32 PM) Putz really is a luxury on this team, Thornton, Jenks, and Santos can handle the seventh eighth and ninth in some order. Alonso may have more of and adjustment than Dunn or Fielder, but he also would cost sognificantly less. He did start slowly adjusting to AAA this year when he was being asked to play LF on a regular basis, in his last ten games his line is .395/.452/.474/.926 so it appears he is figured it out. Putz is gone after this year anyway so you might as well get some value out of him while you can. Trading a middle reliever is ridiculous? Really? With an infield core of Alonso, Beckham, Viciedo, and Ramirez - very cheap - the team can afford to make some other moves. Adding Dunn means more money off the books at the end of the year but leaves holes at 1B, 2B, and 3B next season, unless you are dying for an IF of Retherford, Ramirez, Teahen, and Morel. Fielder would also cost at least Bacon and Viciendo, which means you would have little around him next year either and with his contract could not afford to do much to replace them in the off-season. I am not saying that Alonso is better than Dunn or Fielder, but he is a lot better option for the White Sox when everything is taken into account. He would be a better option at DH than Kotsay and would keep the Sox from having to give up any vital pieces. Lost me there. Putz has been one of the top relievers in baseball. As much as I love Sergio, he isn't Putz right now and Alonso isn't exactly tearing up the minors.
