  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 01:03 PM) Without looking at the schedule/matchups, I'd put Danks ahead of Floyd. Floyd tends to eat a few more innings than D1, so it makes sense to have him next to Garcia to try to use him to rest the bullpen a bit. Come on, you know how Ozzie switches LHPs and RHPs
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 12:24 PM) From Mark Gonzales tweets.... Nice one by Cora QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 12:49 PM) Exactly. He was a different player. He was going to outproduce Crede in his sleep. I could see some optimism for Jones if it was a one year spiral, or even 2 with an injury. But its 3 years. He'll be fun to watch, and if they pick his spots, he may still provide a little lift. Ron Washington was criicized last year for overexposing him. The Andruw Jones of 4 or 5 years ago is gone. I don't think he's coming back unless he gets himself some Flintstone vitamins. With Fields, I think it was drive. I still remember watching him boot a Miguel Cabrera ground ball (in the double header) and just look at the ball. It was fat Miguel Cabrera running to first with a bad hamstring for god-sake! He then complained about playing time after the second game when Gordon played.
  3. QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 09:52 PM) WTF? Thats one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time...
  4. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 08:57 PM) And to prove I have been a Jones fan, there is this.... http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/2453/dscn3026.jpg Oh my. A WBC jersey...
  5. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 08:19 PM) That's a terrible idea, Nocioni is basically Deng with a third of the talent. He's also one of the few players in the league more overpaid than Deng, giving him over $6.5 mil to put up MAYBE 12-6 for the next two and a half years is a huge waste of money. At least Deng is a solid third scorer on a good team, Nocioni can't even start for the Kings for christ's sake. They're going to need someone to be a legit offensive threat besides Rose and the FA, otherwise you're only marginally better than you are now. 16+ PPG scorers aren't terribly common to be just given away unless you know you can find a reasonable replacement/upgrade in the exchange. For what it's worth, I'd rather get Manu if he doesn't command a high price. Plus, Deng would need to get moved eventually since his contract keeps growing while Noah and Rose will be due for paydays.
  6. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 07:55 PM) Well then, who are we gonna make fat jokes about this year? Don't we have someone in the bullpen?
  7. If it's true and he produces, wonderful. Jones is the player I'm least worried about since he can be cut easily, so he will always have to play at a high level to avoid being cut.
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 04:33 PM) If they can trade Deng in the offseason, hopefully they can use the extra dough for two max contracts. I would think much bigger than Manu if they were able to land Bosh They wouldn't be able to afford 2 max contracts anyway. They have $20M in cap right now, and trading Deng makes it $30. They'd have to trade Hinrich, Noah, or Rose to clear up enough space for another max, and do that and you have a hole. You know what? If I could, I'd trade Deng to the Kings for Nocioni and a second round pick swap. Then I'd use the Bulls 2 picks to draft Xavier Henry (if he falls to them) and Greivis Vasquez in the second round. Resign Miller (he'd kind of a be like to Noah/Asik/Gibson as Hunter is to Rose) if his knees hold up, and resign Warrick since it seems like he'll be a good fit. A roster of: PG - Rose, Vasquez SG - Hinrich, Henry SF - Nocioni, Johnson PF - Bosh, Gibson, Warrick C - Noah, Asik, Miller Would actually have a serviceable bench, and who knows, maybe Johnson surprises us. I'd still prefer trading Deng for a low 1st rounder/high 2nd rounder and just signing Manu, but I'm unsure of how trading for draft picks works (since you know, the contracts would be uneven). Edit: I am liking me some Hakim Warrick right now.
  9. QUOTE (b-Rye @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 06:02 PM) I'm surprised Dye hasn't signed yet.... must be asking for too much time in the outfield Fixed
  10. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 04:15 PM) It's amazing how overrated RBI is. Yes, but that is the stat that they said will be the one to put Gordon in the HoF in the video, so I figure that's their reasoning.
  11. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 05:28 PM) Alright, plan C: Jermaine Dye. Seriously, I would hope he would sign a $4M deal with us to DH considering he is getting NO OFFERS from anyone else right now. You know what? I'd go to JD and say "Look. I'll give you $3M to DH, since you can't play the field. Take it or leave it." Then, let him and Jones it out, and if they both suck, cut Jones, if they both hit, trade one midseason for prospects. If Jones hits and JD doesn't, DFA JD and trade for Crawford, and if JD hits and Jones doesn't...don't do anything. We know how competition for roster
  12. I want to know how we swung and missed on so many DH candidates this offseason. Now all I can hope is Kenny makes a trade for Crawford, since Gonzalez is nothing more than a really nice pipe dream.
  13. Here's the argument for Beckham being better than Utley, Pedroia, and Kinsler. It's the RBI's. Utley is already 30, so while he'll keep playing at a high level, it won't be for more than around 4-5 years. He's the only one of the three that would have RBI totals toward what's expected from Gordon, who will end up batting at 3rd, while Kinsler and Pedroia will probably be batting 1st and 2nd. If Alexei becomes a good #2 hitter, or a D2 and Mitchell combo takes that spot in front of Gordon, he'll have an RBI feast. Also, Gordon hit a majority of his HR's on the road, and once he adapts to our HR-friendly park, it wouldn't be out of the question for him to average 25-30 HR's.
  14. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 01:25 AM) As for Deng being selfish....that is true. But he's putting up near career numbers, which is about the best we can expect from him. He's going to be overpaid at long as he's here and selfish as well, but at least he's contributing. But what happens if they land Bosh and Deng is still selfish? I remember how he apparently didn't like Rose being in the spotlight, how would he accept Rose, Noah, and Bosh all ahead of him? I'd trade Deng in the offseason for another a pick and sign Manu if he's willing to take something under $10M. Then you'd have money to strengthen the bench.
  15. ...did they just seriously cut you off mid-sentence while the crazy one had free time this whole thing? I liked the points Jason made, especially about winners like AJ and Gordon. But my god, that was an atrocious interview because of Cubs-fan
  16. White guy hero...in baseball? Someone give her a reality check. The slaughter comment was probably true. Edit: Thank you Justin for owning her after that completely ****ing moronic Ted Williams comment.
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 09:46 AM) I'd like to speak and I wish I were in studio to shut her up and tell her what is really going on. I don't care about the Cubs/Sox, I want to talk baseball here, haha. Albeit, I'm absolutely exhausted right now. Yea, you do sound a bit winded, but you also sound like a baseball fan. She sounds like someone that just wants to fan the flames of a rivalry that has no place in the discussion.
  18. Excuse me while I go find this woman, and see just how much I want to throw her out a window.
  19. Hmmm, that seems like a pretty sweet projection. I think Gordon's full potential is .300, 25 HR, 110 RBI (per year)
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 01:21 AM) I'm sick of the clog the basepaths argument. Who gives a f*** about that? As far as worthless, you must think an awful lot of Sox players throughout history have been worthless cause we've won one WS in about a zillion years. Thome beating the Twins was priceless. It's not a one-man sport. Thome's home run vs. the Twins was special. The clog the bathpaths argument is old. Seriously. To clog the bases enough for them to be a problem, you have to get on base a lot, which Jim does. Also, we would have won with Thome in 2006 had the pitching not crapped out.
  21. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 01:21 AM) I'll be doing a preview of the Sox at 9:30 tomorrow morning on WGN Radio!!!! You're making me wake up early? Darn it. WGN is 720, right?
  22. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 12:38 AM) I was a fan of Alexander and Law in college, not sure what has happened in the NBA to them. Salmons hit a big shot in that game, but I think he was 6 for 17 from the field (sounds about right for him). The Bulls have a really soft schedule right now, doing a good job taking advantage of it so far, and need to continue with that trend. I really liked Alexander coming out of college, and I think he's just been screwed over by playing time and injuries, kinda like our old buddy Tyrus.
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 04:29 PM) The Cubs are to blame for everything, it's official. I bet we all wish that Boras failed all his classes in that law school now. Baseball would be so much better without him. Ugh, apparently, he is somewhat worshiped there. My sister-in-law, like any good Sox fan, hates it.
  24. I don't get MLB Network. Anyway, I want this to be on the net, because I definitely want to see this.
  25. Ugh. My sister-in-law went to the same law school as Boras, apparently the Cubs paid for his education since he suffered a career ending injury in their farm system. Darn Cubs. If I'm Kenny, I go to the Padres and get a deal done for AGon now. Going into the season with this big a hole is idiocy.
