QUOTE (thedoctor @ Jan 30, 2010 -> 12:58 PM) but he can't seem to figure out how it is working out that way: 88 wins That was hilarious. "My system of projecting wins has the Sox at 88. That makes no sense to me."

QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Jan 30, 2010 -> 08:13 AM) When the Cubs were in the playoffs in '04, people at work just assumed that I was rooting for them because I'm from Chicago. They were shocked when I said that I not only wanted them to lose, but I wanted them to lose in "spectacular fashion." I feel somewhat responsible for the Bartman fiasco. I no longer root against the Cubs, but I really enjoy that they haven't won anything. I'd like the Sox to get at least one more World Series win before the Cubs win anything. Same, in my 6th grade class, everyone got mad at me for wanting the Marlins to beat the Yankees. "How could you root for the team that beat the Cubbies!?" That was the one time I ever even hoped the Cubs would win, and that was because my Uncle and Gramps were both getting old and I thought they deserved it. Then the Cubs blew it in Cub-fashion, and I hoped they'd never recover. Towards the end of his life, my grandpa liked the Sox more because 1) They were better run and 2) He couldn't stand the Cubs broadcast team. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jan 30, 2010 -> 11:02 AM) Waldo the White Sox Wolf. Waldo was always my favorite mascot. Not only was he my favorite colors (Black, white, silver, go figure) but he fit the 'lone wolf' White Sox fan mentality that can occur at times. Southpaw is just a giant Pokemon on crack.

I'd like Downs as that would make this a very good bullpen, but what I don't like is the notion of spending money the second LHP in the BP if Damon could be had for just a little bit more. Of course, I'd love to get both, but I don't see them spending another $10M

ESPN just said something interesting. The Bulls are the first team (in NBA history) to win 5 straight games against 5 winning opponents. -
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jan 21, 2010 -> 07:41 PM) sad/funny thing is, the lets go white sox song is more lame than the cubs one lol Go Go White Sox is a '50s fight song. Go Cubs Go is 80's sing-a-long. FWIW, San Diego Super Chargers is like, such a great theme song.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jan 29, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) love youre avatar, have the plat DVRd just because of stacey kings call. I want Stacey to guest broadcast a sox game with Hawk. "Someone pull Verlander aside and tell him who this kid is" I want to see it. So very badly, I want to see that.

QUOTE (scenario @ Jan 29, 2010 -> 05:21 PM) Good mlb.com story on the connection between Johnson and Pierre. (Went to the same college, etc.) If Johnson was One Dog... maybe Pierre should be Juan Dog. (Sorry.) Juan Dog, I like it.

QUOTE (The Gooch @ Jan 29, 2010 -> 05:04 PM) That would be too nerve racking. I would rather just sweep them. I would greatly fear losing to the Cubs in the World Series. I mean their fans can't keep their mouths shut now and they haven't won anything in over one hundred years, imagine if they beat us in the World Series My original that I told my brother was Buehrle v. Zambrano each throwing a perfect game, when 2 outs, bottom of the ninth up walks late season addition pinch hitter Frank. He tears the cover off one. /cubsdie If not, sweep them and celebrate on Wrigley Field as Sox fans storm the field. Either one makes me happy.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 29, 2010 -> 04:43 PM) So the Bulls would have enough money to be able to land both Gay/Stoudemire and keep Hinrich? How is that possible? Trading Deng for Stoudemire, somehow dumping Salmons, and showing everyone one else how the Larry Bird Rule works. Also, Brad Miller, you are awesome. Deng, I don't like you, but you have been awesome tonight. We have one 5 straight road games against good Western teams. What. -

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jan 29, 2010 -> 10:54 AM) My dream was always Bosh and Joe Johnson but if we somehow got Gay and Stoudemire this team definitely would have no problem scoring a bunch, but we might be as bad as the Suns were on defense. If the cap unexpectedly goes up and we can afford two maxes, I'd love Bosh and Wade/Johnson, but right now it seems like Gay/Stoudemire could be somewhat possible. Also, having Kirk, Taj, and Noah around still would allow them to be better then Phoenix defense. -
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jan 29, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) This is just a reminder to us all that people still think of Chicago as a Cubs town. We're like second class citizens. That's alright though. I bet we win another World Series before they do. My dream scenario is still a Sox-Cubs World Series, ending in Game 7 at USCF with a Paulie walkoff grand slam after being down by 3. It would destroy Cubdom.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 28, 2010 -> 07:19 PM) Manny's Deli. End of discussion. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Jan 28, 2010 -> 07:21 PM) ooo Mannys a longtime favorite of mine. Nothing like a corned beef sandwhich done right and a matzo ball soup, yummmmm! The other day I told my friends we were gonna drive up to Chicago one of these days and I'd bring them there. Also, is it just me, or does the Manny's in Midway kinda suck? It needs Gino-plate-flipping.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 28, 2010 -> 08:10 PM) \Merkin just put a piece on Chisox.com about the potential to still add a DH. Just read it. Ozzie was right. Thome is too likable. I can't hate him, but he plays for the only team I dislike more than the Cubs. Makes me sick. Also, he had the SoxNet nod in the article, mentioning the A-Gon rumor.

MJ congratulates Rose on the All-Star nod. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/nba/news/story?id=4867374 Sam Smith reads our minds and talks about Rudy Gay and Amar'e Stoudemire http://www.nba.com/bulls/news/smith_100125.html -
Torres is his agent and he's left handed. I like. What's Cubano think of him? He'd have to be able to be ML ready like Lexi for me to have interest at 26.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jan 28, 2010 -> 06:03 AM) Pretty sure you'd need to get rid of either Hinrich or Salmons (probably the former) to make that work cap wise. I think Gay would be a really good fit for NY FWIW. Although they seem to have something pretty good going in Memphis ATM also. I'd try and unload Salmons for a pick to a team. If we can get a first rounder for Sefolosha, we could get something similar for Salmons. Edit: Rose an all-star. I like. Was holding onto slim hope for Noah too, but he can get Most Improved -
QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jan 28, 2010 -> 12:40 PM) Klaw (1:12 PM) With average stuff at best. And I'm sorry, what a D1 college product did in A-ball - especially low-A - is just not that exciting. Unless he stunk, in which case, he's got one food in the discard pile. Only Low-A counts. High-A, AA, AAA, and the MLB are irrelevant.

I'd take Stoudemire, in a deal that sent Phoenix Thomas and Deng (might need to throw in a first rounder). If there were enough cap space (and if I learned how the Bird Rule works) , then the Bulls could sign Rudy Gay for the SF role. -
QUOTE (chunk23 @ Jan 28, 2010 -> 01:01 AM) The Sox would have had Buerhle, Floyd, Danks, Colon/Bailey/Contreras/Hudson/Richard/Garcia in the rotation. They probably don't trade for Peavy. Now they have a handful more pieces and the payroll room to make some blockbuster trades. I assume they would've gone after Abreu to fill Dye's spot. They might even have the parts to trade for A.Gonzalez. They could sign Figgins with the payroll room currently occupied by Peavy. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jan 28, 2010 -> 01:19 AM) But let's not go out on a limb or anything. This all would have gone down exactly this way. What I'd see happening is us still trading for Peavy, because Bailey was pretty poor at the seasons start. There goes the Figgins money. We'd also probably not acquire Rios, and instead would have Abreu. This would give us around $5M, which we'd use to pay part of Pierre's contract. So, we'd have a rotation of Peavy-Buehrle-Danks-Floyd-Bailey, with an OF of Quentin-Pierre-Abreu. Abreu's defense would be horrid though, so our lineup this year would be LF - Pierre SS - Alexei RF - Quentin DH - Abreu 1B - Konerko 2B - Beckham C - AJ 3B - Teahen CF - Jordan Danks

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 28, 2010 -> 12:43 AM) I bet there are a ton of ESPN types who were wrong on Edwin Jackson in 2009 or Jon Danks in 2008, too. Or giving up on Homer Bailey after 2009. Just imagine if we could have pulled off that Bailey trade, knowing what has happened since. :-( By the way, where is Chris Carter? I've seen him ranked 20-35 on some Top 100 lists out there. We' have a possible upgrade in the 5th starter spot?

This also reminds me how Matt Wieters and David Price we're locks to win the AL ROY last year. As for Keith Law, Wikipedia says hello.

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 10:27 PM) Best west coast road trip since the Jordan era? It's definitely the most confusing. We start out losing to bad teams, then go and whack the teams that we're supposed to beat us. -
Viciedo a non-prospect? Cubs 7th? Whatever Kenny did to Keith Law, I really want to know.

Here's a good Sam Smith piece on what Kirk does to this team. http://blogs.bulls.com/chicago_bulls_blog/...turnaround.html Here's my FA predictions: LeBron stays Wade stays Bosh goes to Bulls Boozer to Miami Stoudemire stays Joe Johnson I think stays, but that one is iffy. What I'd like to see: LeBron to Clippers: Not only would ESPN crap themselves with joy, but the Clippers could be a #2 seed with LeBron. Heck their current roster (outside LeBron) is already a lot better than the Cavs, and the potential is there when Griffin gets out from the Clipper Curse. The Clippers would have to free up just a little bit more cap room. Wade to the Bulls: Bulls would become a top 3 team (the others are Boston and Orlando) Joe Johnson and Carlos Boozer to the Nets: This one is assuming the Nets land John Wall, and I can see the Nets trading Harris for a good small forward somewhere. Stoudemire to Knicks: Amare would go because of D'Antoni. I could see the Knicks being a 5-6 seed depending on if they can sign someone else (not a max) to go with Stoudemire Bosh to Phoenix or Houston: I see Bosh going to Houston if they don't hold onto Landry and Hayes. Bosh is from Texas and that is an intimidating frontcourt. Also liking this Thunder game so far. -

QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 04:41 AM) Loving Noah, Loving Rose. Im even liking me some Hinrich... everyone else.. please leave Apparently, Hinrich to Lakers is ESPNs new odd rumor. Kirk to the LA for Morrison and Fisher. Or how about Kirk on the Cavs? For Ilgauskas. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/333394-...ls-kirk-hinrich I'd much rather trade Salmons at this point. as he doesn't fit in at SG like Kirk, and I like a Kirk-Rose backcourt for ball movement.
