QUOTE (since56 @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 10:59 PM) The white sox did not win with Thome. That is the truth. Winning the world sieries is the only win. If you think winning 90 games or a division is winning maybe you belong in wrigley where they accept losing and losers. ...seriously? I love bashing the Cubs too, but under this logic we never won with Big Frank as a full time player. We didn't win with Kotsay or Jones either. In fact, we won with this guy If the pitching staff hadn't crapped itself in '06, we probably would have won then. At this point in the market, Thome gives you the best option. Edit: Brandon Allen is not ready for the majors. K's too much right now and doesn't hit for a high enough average. Not saying he can't get better however.

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 08:07 PM) um...well since he lost all that weight, or came off of peds, etc, does this mean hes going to suck or be good because he lost weight? i cant believe how he looks in this pic...doesnt even look like him soto ...that looked scary.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 11:51 AM) I would like for them to do the same thing they did with Thomas when they put him at DH in 1999 after 10 seasons at 1B. This would be ideal especially with Adrian Gonzalez likely being available at the trade deadline That's what I still hope for. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 12:59 PM) It's also worth considering that if all PK can give is 15-20 home runs a year and a .280 average, he might not make a great DH next year either. Depends on the kind of production we can get from him. He might fit better as a 1b in the NL, giving some power to a team that has nothing at 1b (NYM), rather than DHing in the AL. I could see him hitting .280 with 30 HR as a full time DH. Haven't most of his thumb issues stemmed from fielding? Plus, he can still field, so in a pinch he could start at 1B.

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...sp&c_id=mlb I'd be fine with this, since we might not have Viciedo ready by then, and if we somehow acquire a lefty power hitting 1B, I could see Konerko being a good DH. Of course, he'd have to take a pay cut.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 10:01 PM) Only thing more pathetic than these sluts is Allred who is always repping them. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 13, 2010 -> 08:43 AM) Or the idiot ballplayers who can't think before they f***. I dislike both of them. Trent Reznor may have However, hasn't Shaq been divorced for some time? Can she really do anything legally to harm him?

I heard we were going for Roy Oswalt instead?

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 08:08 PM) any guesses on who might be a surprise to break camp with the big league team? my long shot = Jordan Danks Flowers, Viciedo, or D2. Flowers or Viciedo to be part of this rotating DH monstrosity, and D2 for his fielding/possible hitting.

QUOTE (b-Rye @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 08:17 PM) I'm thinking Jones/Kotsay platoon... with the arb raises payroll is around 100 million already, right? Maybe Thome for cheap, but I'm doubting it because there's not a roster spot either. We can gladly show Nix the door.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 06:03 PM) This is all a matter of opinion. THere are so many different games I play on my Wii that I absolutely love, but I see what the PS3 and 360 crowd is saying in regards to graphics quality and hardware. The way I look at it, I have a computer, I have a DVD player, I dont need the extra stuff, and with a young child(and another on the way) in the house, the Wii makes more sense for me. Plus, I grew up on Nintendo, so the Nintendo brand games are great for me. I dont play COD, I dont play sports games much anymore, I am more into the puzzle games and party games that I find on Wii Ware(World of Goo/ Bit.trip void/ Tiki Tori) or are released without much fanfare(BoomBlox/ Monster Lab/ Deadly Creatures). There are arguments that the old games arent worth it because of all of the emulators available, but it isnt only NES and SNES, there are N64, Genesis, Turbo Graphx, Neo Geo and Sega games available as well, and I have downloaded plenty. Its all in what you want in your console Oh, I was raised on Nintendo too. Donkey Kong 64, Super Mario 64, Diddy Kong Racing, Mario Kart, Star Fox, and Banjo Kazooie we're games I'd play all the time when I was little. Heck, I bought a GameCube (Star Fox Adventures = joy) and a bunch of games for it too. However, at the same time, Sony consoles won my heart. And I love my PS3. I've downloaded a bunch of old PS1 games and put them on my PSP for on the road nostalgia. I do play party games and puzzlers on my PS3, but buying another console and controllers is a bit much for those. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 07:16 PM) Yes. That's fairly definitive answer. I think I've decided; if they release a new Star Fox game soon, I will get a Wii.

QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 06:57 PM) Rose and Noah deserve considerable nomination. Rose I think is a must to get in, Noah on the otherhand has to much in front of him. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 06:58 PM) When are the rosters finalized? Because for now, Rose still struggled for about 1/2 the season with injury. Either the end of this month or the very start of February. Rose has to jump Rondo and Noah will have to jump Lopez and Lee. I think Rose will get in over Rondo if: 1) They dominate on this road trip, which on the West Coast, is never easy. 2) Rose gets his stats to around 20 PPG and 7 APG. Both seem doable if he keeps going at the pace he is. I think Noah gets in if: 1) Same as Rose #1. 2) If he has 3 or 4 more monster games (20 pts, 10 rebounds/10 pts, 20 rebounds/15 pts, 15 rebounds) -
I now want Jets-Saints SB. Immovable Object vs. Unstoppable Force.

So, with the All-Star starter announcements looming, heres the case for Rose and Noah. Rose: 1st in Scoring for East PG's (Not counting Arenas), 4th in Assists for East PG's (behind Rondo, Jennings, and Duhon), 3rd in Rebounding (behind Stuckey and Rondo). Noah: 2nd in Rebounds for East C's (behind Howard), 8th in Scoring (behind Lee, Lopez, Bargnani, Howard, Horford, O'Neal, and Perkins), 8th in blocks (behind Howard, Dalembert, Haywood, Perkins, Lopez, Bogut, Hibbert), and second in Assists (behind Lee). I see Rose getting in if Iverson elects not to play, although the coaches might pick him over Rondo if he keeps going at his current pace. Jennings, Duhon, and Stuckey present no competition. For Noah, you could make arguments for Lopez and Lee making it in before Noah, depending on how much Noah's rebounding is called into play, though averaging a double double could help his case. -
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jan 16, 2010 -> 02:39 PM) Go ahead and get it. You won't regret it. You can download old school games from the Wii store. The new Mario Cart and Mario Bros. are good, even Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort are solid. I understand this much, but whenever I play a Wii, I come away not liking it generally, though Mario Kart was indeed fun. The problem is, would NBA Jam, Mario Kart, and some old games be worth it?

QUOTE (beck72 @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 08:09 AM) I was thinking more than Gavin, yet less than Lester. The Sox aren't going to make Gavin's deal look like peanuts and cause a rift salary wise. This is what I'm thinking. Danks could have had Gavin's contract, so theres no point in him accepting that or less.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 11:21 AM) ANDRE ETHIER/Brent Lillibridge ADRIAN GONZALEZ/Brent Lillibridge - PK becomes DH These, if I could trade for either one with guys from the farm, I'd do it right now.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 10:41 AM) Wow. Horrible news. RIP This was my reaction. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 10:48 AM) This might might make me sound bad but wow was that a waste of a 2nd rounder, definitely unexpected though. This was my dads.

They still have arbitration years (Bobby 1, Quentin 2) even after signing the contract right? I think Quentin's holding out until he can demand more with another 2008 type season.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 16, 2010 -> 12:29 PM) I'm seriously pissed we couldn't have outbid Texas on a one year contract for Vlad. I just don't understand why we couldn't overpay for a one year deal. Losing out on Matsui and Vlad is really a pain. At this point it probably will be Thome.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 16, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) If they get a lefty power bat at the deadline or before, they could easily get to the ALCS this year, IMO. As it stands right now, they could win the division, but I'm not sure how much farther without homefield advantage. These are my expectations for this year. However, in 2006, I thought we were on the verge of a dynasty. We had a rotation of All-Stars, the previous years best bullpen with our new flame throwing closer, a fearsome lineup with no holes other than Anderson, and exceptional defense aside from the corner OF spots. I still thought we'd win it all at the All-Star break, but we fell off and the Tigers took off. The Sun-Times backpage that said " Stop Believin' " with Thome, Dye, and Konerko standing at the top of the dug out is the most disappointing one I ever saw.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 05:15 PM) Ehh, no. Not even close really. Ted Lyons, Ed Walsh, hell, Billy Pierce, and that's just the surface. I rarely count Walsh (dead ball era), I always imagined Buehrle would be just like Lyons stat wise if he played back in the day, and for Pierce, I don't really know why I've always counted Mark above him. Don't really count Black Jack, Hoyt, Fernandez, Bannister due to length with team, and while Black Jack and Hoyt we're good, they weren't as consistently good (has Buehrle had a bad season other than 06?)
-
QUOTE (heirdog @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) If we can get a valuable piece or two from Jenks it will help offset the lost prospects the other trade I think will happen will cause: AGon! I love the prospect of trading for AGon, but the chances we give up anything big from anywhere but our farm system is slim. And whatever players we'd get for Jenks really wouldn't replace what we'd give up.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 12:33 PM) I really hope Peavy pitches opening day. He's our ace. He deserves that honor. Best Pitcher in Team History vs. Guy Who's Started 3 Games, but Better Pitcher. I like Peavy, but Opening Day really should be given to the player who means the most to the franchise, on and off the field, and quite frankly, Buehrle is still the face of the franchise.
