  1. I like the deal, because if he hits like 2006 form, its a good deal. Don't like 3 years though...might have preferred 2.
  2. From the White Sox Facebook: I dislike that package for Halladay in every way. It's giving up far to much talent for a one year rental which would gut the top level of the farm and prevent Kenny from acquiring a big time bat, so no matter how great a rotation of Peavy-Buehrle-Halladay-Floyd/Danks-Garcia is, we'd have a very questionable offense.
  3. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 12:18 AM) I'd say it'll cost somewhere between $17.5M and $19M total for Jenks, Danks, Quentin, Teahen, Carrasco and Pena. That doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room Well, that definitely makes Halladay very undesirable, unless JR lets us raise the payroll a lot.
  4. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 11:58 PM) Article will be up tomorrow from Mark Gonzo on both Halliday and Matsui... Well, with only $20M left on the payroll...how much could we expect after arbitration to all the guys with it? Like, 5 million left?
  5. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 10:22 PM) Especially during THOSE Bulls years?!?! I'm shocked not all the Bulls players (that we know of) weren't drunk/high playing. Most creative team ever. "Why did he travel the entire court only to throw the ball at the hoop? WHY IS HE FIGHTING BENNY?!" I remember my brother trying to get me to watch a game when I was tired and trying to sleep. I said I didn't care about them at the time and he said "Fine! When they win a championship you'll just be a fair weather fan." How you can have that much optimism is beyond me.
  6. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 11:43 PM) Well with Doc and his endurance... he's a guy who can go 9 innings with ease. It's the offense mustering 1 run that I'm worried about.
  7. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 10:18 PM) A mindgame, i presume. KW likes playing games with the media. He's not a guy we can get easily, nor is he a guy who we really need. Not to say that getting him wouldn't be legendary. Yea, it has to be a mind game, as the price is just far too large for 1 season of Halladay. And we'd also have to win every game 1-0 since getting any offense would be out of the question.
  8. QUOTE (wilmot825 @ Dec 6, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) One of the nicest players I have met on the White Sox, next to the legend Aaron Rowand Man, the most I can stake a claim to is Miguel Olivo at Grandstand. Still a pretty cool guy, but Rowand and Buehrle is gold. Though, I do love my brother meeting Ozzie when he was five, sitting on his lap and Ozzie said "I am your favorite player, and you are my favorite fan" after telling my Grandpa (Cubs fan who liked the Sox to, and was more of a Sox fan in his later years) "Hurry the **** up with the camera gramps." This explains my brothers excessive swearing.
  9. QUOTE (3E8 @ Dec 6, 2009 -> 02:38 PM) A few people need their sarcasm detectors checked Isn't that why we have green? But still, pretty obvious he was kidding guys. It'd be like saying "The Bears are not the type of organization to use sub-par Quarterbacks"
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 6, 2009 -> 09:26 AM) From the Tribune, Ozzie's take on the leadoff spot: Manager Ozzie Guillen is fully aware that there are four months left until the White Sox's 2010 regular season opener against Cleveland, so he was careful about any thought of selecting rookie sensation Gordon Beckham as his leadoff hitter. "A lot of people are saying that," Guillen said Saturday night at the Fairmont Hotel, where he was participating in the Easter Seals of Metropolitan Chicago (ESMC) Holiday Gala. "He's the one in the lineup I have right now. Is he ideal? That's the only (one) have. "But I really like to have someone else out there. Bekcham is a very, very good RBI man. And I don't want to take the bat away from him, and hoepfully we find someone to take his spot." Guillen is aware that general manager Ken Williams is searching for a leadoff batter. "We tried to find one," Guillen said. "It's not easy. We tried looking for one, the one out there is very expensive, and the one is not there, we have to make big trades. If they don't find a legit guy there are a lot worse scenerios than having perhaps your best hitter bat the most times. I would imagine the one that was out there was Figgins. I really, really don't want to see Gordon leadoff. He could be a #3 bat in the lineup if all goes well. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 6, 2009 -> 09:36 AM) Why is that so hard to believe? Thome is from the Peoria area Most people think of Northern Illinois (not the University, the direction) when they think of Illinois. While the North part has big cities, the rest is like...empty. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 6, 2009 -> 10:54 AM) Not only that, but if the Rays did Jenks + Flowers for Upton they might as well change their name for the 2nd time and start calling themselves the Tampa Bay Schiavos. The guy still hit .241 last year, so it's not like he can command a farm. He could command a proven closer, a top prospect, and maybe one or two lesser 'spects.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 6, 2009 -> 02:51 AM) If he wasn't, Vernon Wells is going to be on there far before Alexis Rios. Rios has put up several good seasons and is much more likely to turn into an above average offensive player and a good player in many other metrics than he is to continue putting up low .700 OPS's. I still don't think the Alexis Rios contract is a bad one. It's not great, but there are worse contracts out there. Gotta agree here...Wells has a horrific contract, essentially getting monster money for 3 GG's and 2 good offensive seasons. Rios' contract is more justifiable, since he could have gone to arbitration, was 27, coming off two All-Star games, had a good bat at that point and a good glove. And its not worth nearly as much as Wells'.
  12. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Dec 5, 2009 -> 02:42 PM) I don't agree with what Lebron was doing either, but some of the comments in this thread are pure comedy. You don't want him anywhere near the Bulls because he's a clown? Yeah, you do that. However, I'd like to have the best player in the league on this team. Well, that isn't the reason I don't want him. For starters, he has quite possibly the biggest ego in the league of big egos. I don't want a guy who thinks it's OK to be a sore loser because he's a "winner" (Orlando last year), and honestly, I think he's mentally weak. Plus, click that link to Sam Smith's article above...would LeBron be fine having a team being built around the goal to win, instead of being built solely around him. Though, it would let the Bulls play at every game Plus, I like Wade a lot more.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 5, 2009 -> 08:20 AM) I 100% agree with this. He still is only 24 going on 25, so there is time for him to figure it out. You have to wonder if he ever will though. I watch his interviews, and it just seems like everything is a big joke to him, its like watching wrestling interviews. He always makes the faces and the poses and answers questions like a douche. It's not just the maturity...he has such a large ego, and it's different than Michaels. The fact that LeBron thinks he could be a super-star in the NFL? It's so full of crap...at least Jordan actually went to the other sport, and that was because it was what his Dad had wanted to see. LeBron likes to pick on people he dominates. As seen at the HOF speech...so does Michael, but if I know correctly, he had rivalries with the people he mentioned, and he never did it on the court. I can bet you Jordan never would have walked off the court and cried after getting dunked on at a clinic. Edit: Also, the guy has fathered 2 kids...one at age 19...he needs to grow up if he's gonna have kids.
  14. This is a really good deal by the Mariners, especially since even if you get Ichiro out now, you still will have to worry about the guy behind him.
  15. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 10:11 PM) I said it earlier in this thread that as a person, the guy is a complete jackass. His ego/immaturity is beyond sickening. He is an amazing player, tremendous talent, but the s*** he does is just foolish. I guess we can say Noah ruined our chances on landing him next season though. http://blogs.bulls.com/chicago_bulls_blog/...vs-victory.html When this guy says you're being a clown You're being a clown. Apparently, LeBron took the low road and said Noah was just mad cause he can't help his team. One of these day's I hope the clown gets put in his place, and this makes me happy, because I don't want him anywhere near the team next year.
  16. I liked that list...only thing I disagree about is Danks, because I think he could turn into a really good defensive OF with a little above average bat.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 08:00 AM) That's kind of my point - he either can, or cannot, say he knows a lot about some given team. He's willing to post a rumor of obvious silliness like this, but mocks a rumor that was more well-supported and logical about Adrian Gonzalez. Basically, if he can find something obscure that hasn't been wide-published yet, he'll prefer that because it makes his site look better. Something that the rest of the world got first, he'll set a higher bar to be recognized. Its just him defending his turf, which is somewhat understandable, but still hypocritical. Because SoxNet isn't sponsored by ESPN. Speaking of ESPN, their White Sox depth chart is absolute bull****. http://espn.go.com/mlb/teams/depth?team=chw Edit: Man, Wise is still on there.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 11:07 PM) So they blow off the Adrian Gonzalez stuff, but expect us to believe the guy who has been throwing at our players for years, to the extent that we banned to AAA a player who wouldn't retaliate back, and yet we are after him? What f***ing idiots. AJ would aim for his head when he's throwing the ball back to the mound.
  19. QUOTE (League @ Dec 3, 2009 -> 06:01 AM) So, if this is your logic, you must think Gavin Floyd is pretty horrible as well, right? Career: 36-29 - 4.67 ERA - .259 avg - 1.37 WHIP Man, this guy must have sucked: 34-45 - 4.28 ERA - 1.338 WHIP ...oh wait. That's Greinke pre-2009.

    Thornton

QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 01:33 AM) I looked at the picture, and your Avatar seemed to have the perfect reaction.
  21. Well, that would make Gordon the AL's premier 2B.
  22. Quin

    Thornton

Thornton only goes if we get a mega-star in return, because he's the best LH setup man in the game, and has huge trade value with his contract.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 10:56 AM) Morel shouldn't factor in to Joe Crede getting what would essentially be an invite to spring training. The minor league contract part of that is an informality, as most of the time guys like that have a clause written in where if they aren't going to make the major league team, they are to be released so that they have the chance to catch on somewhere else if they want. Crede wouldn't be going to Charlotte. Exactly, never plan you're signings (especially minor league offers) on AA prospects.
  24. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 30, 2009 -> 11:39 PM) I don't want any part of his bat. Maybe I should have clarified.... If he was healthy (could get over back issues) and possibly return to '06 form, I'd be ecstatic.
