QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 10:56 AM) Morel shouldn't factor in to Joe Crede getting what would essentially be an invite to spring training. The minor league contract part of that is an informality, as most of the time guys like that have a clause written in where if they aren't going to make the major league team, they are to be released so that they have the chance to catch on somewhere else if they want. Crede wouldn't be going to Charlotte. Exactly, never plan you're signings (especially minor league offers) on AA prospects.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 30, 2009 -> 11:39 PM) I don't want any part of his bat. Maybe I should have clarified.... If he was healthy (could get over back issues) and possibly return to '06 form, I'd be ecstatic.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Nov 30, 2009 -> 03:38 PM) Crede trying to do what Pods did last year...hmm... If it came down to accepting a minor league deal, I wonder if his top two choices would be here and his hometown Royals. If Crede could return I'd be ecstatic to have that glove and bat back at third.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 30, 2009 -> 05:03 PM) why is Boston seem to be so willing to trade Ellsbury? A great leadoff hitter, young, probably still cheap, I would think you would want to hold onto him. I think Scott said it on page 2 but... They have great farm depth, along with the fact they could get in a Granderson sweepstakes to replace him.

I want Shack to call into White Sox Weekly and this debate to happen again, it'd be radio gold.

In summation: '09 - Has potential to be very good. '08 - Slayerific with extra goodness in Huddy, D2, and Morel. '07 - Not wonderful, but Poreda helped nab Peavy. '06 - Sucked.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 29, 2009 -> 08:33 PM) He has also not done enough to keep the small market teams respectable in the sport, unlike most of the other major sports. The draft and the handling of international players is still a complete disaster when compared to baseball and hockey especially. Yea, the draft is downright awful, international prospects start bidding wars and generally are the top rookies as they've had great seasoning (essentially meaning: More money=what would be the #1 pick), and its amazing how small the level of different playoff teams are each year.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 29, 2009 -> 04:43 PM) His wife is really hot, too. More reason we need him, to add to the Hot Sox Wives.

Wow, should have been pass interference on that last one... God INT's shouldn't count when its mainly the WR's fault.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 29, 2009 -> 02:05 PM) Are you guys worried about our team speed heading into next year? Ranger? Others? Yes or no. Only reason I dislike the Andruw Jones signing, because it knocks De Aza off the roster as the speed guy from the bench, unless we really do have a rotating DH. Though Alexei, Rios, Beckham aren't slow and could all have possibly 20 SB. If we get Pods he could have 40 SB, but be caught 15+ times. But who am I kidding. Paulie will have 100 SB.

QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 28, 2009 -> 06:33 PM) /destruction of the universe, Rickey-style. Well, Rickey seems like the guy to go out with a bang.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 28, 2009 -> 12:30 PM) He's probably not better than Jenks right now, although their ERAs were pretty much the same, but he may be by April and he'll be about $6.5 million cheaper for the 2010 season. I do know KW loves this guy but so does Theo. I don't think the Red Sox would make this offer even though Alexei is very cheap for his position and production. For KW it would be a no brainer. Bard doesn't have to close. They can use Thornton to close, and with the financial savings, sign Hudson or Polanco, add a DH and you could seriously talk about the WS again. Its too nice for the Sox. It could never happen. I'm thinking some reasoning behind the deal would be Theo Epstein sometimes does deals for the sake of doing deals (Kotchman-LaRoche, and I can't see any other reason for Kotsay-Anderson). Plus, you get the possibly elite SS in Alexei and a closer backup plan/setup man in Bobby.

QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 28, 2009 -> 03:03 PM) The big question, why couldn't a scientist just clone Rickey Henderson? The paradox. Rickey would be confused, because Rickey is the best of all time. But if Rickey is the best of all time, then how is Rickey the best of all time?

Who wants the horrific task of summarizing the Shack-Rongey debate? My god, I think I understood it...but so much text...

QUOTE (3E8 @ Nov 28, 2009 -> 12:43 AM) Guess she found out about his mistress Tiger needs 18 holes to be a happy man. Not just three. -
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Nov 28, 2009 -> 01:34 AM) And didn't he already get busted for an amphetamine but it wasn't "illegal" yet? Yea, but the thing is, can you be penalized for something not banned (though wasn't it illegal in the US? I don't know), and I think thats what all the people refer to when they say he did 'roids. Also, McGwire has one of the crappiest brothers ever.

Voted: Alomar - Defense/bat/speed Baines - Clutch/bat/defense in early career Dawson - All around great Blyleven - Good pitcher who fell 13 W's short of the magic number, but had 3000 + K's Martinez - Great bat Mattingly - Defense/bat Raines - Ungodly speed/bat Ventura - Defense/good bat Rose - Seriously, as steroids have shown, it can be a lot worse. And least he cheated after he played. McGwire - I put him on because as knightni said, no positive test for anything banned at the time. However, only ones I see getting in this year are Raines/Alomar/Dawson.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Nov 27, 2009 -> 03:38 PM) I still don't get why everybody is so ready to just throw Beckham in the 3 hole. IMO...he's just NOT ready for that role yet. Gordon's gonna hit .500-100 HR-300 RBI next year . I just wanna see what he could do there, because I can see him excelling.

Well, I was actually thinking about this trade last night. Can someone fill me in on why the BoSox would trade Ellsbury? Do they have a ready to go CF prospect (I doubt BA is their solution). But I'd do it, because it fills 3 holes...Leadoff, OF, and Bullpen. Move Jacoby to LF (isn't Rios a better defender?) and Quentin to right and you've got your speedy LF guy, defensive possible all-star bat in CF, and power bat in right. Then I still do the "please can't these die" rumors of the Sox getting Gonzalez, by giving up any 5-6 players the Padres want from the minors. Even D2 at this point, since Ellsbury would pretty much kill chances of him starting here for a while. Sign Blanco for backup C. Then, for the SS/2B hole, I sign Uribe/Hudson/Polanco. And if that's not possible and we are able to keep Retherford in the AGon deal...well, I'd be against starting CJ at 2B, but would be OK with it since we'd have this lineup (Note: CJ not included in mockup) LF - Ellsbury SS/2B - Uribe/Hudson/Polanco 2B/SS - Beckham 1B - Gonzalez RF - Quentin DH - Konerko CF - Rios C - AJ 3B - Teahen SP - Buehrle SP - Peavy SP - Danks SP - Floyd SP - Garcia CL - Thornton SU - Bard SU - Okajima MRP - Pena MRP - Linebrink LRP - Carrasco LRP - Torres/Hynick/Nunez (depends on who's still with organization) 1B/OF - Kotsay OF - Jones 2B/SS/3B - Vizquel C - Blanco Only thing I dislike is there really isn't a speed guy on the bench.

QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Nov 27, 2009 -> 03:39 AM) Hey everyone, sorry to bring a thread back from the dead, but... It seemed that my photoshopped pic of a white guy's head over Dye's body was prophetic, because I just noticed on the official White Sox website that they actually photoshopped Peavy's head on Dye's body in the same picture!!! Oh god, where is it!?

I honestly see the JR-Kenny-Hahn-Ozzie group being together as long as JR is owner of the team. Then it depends on what happens from there.
-
I can see a splash happening or not...I'd love to get Gonzalez, but I can easily see that happening or not happening. Also, I really don't see Paulie being traded. Especially for a pitcher who really has done nothing other than throw a no-hitter (seriously, I fail to see why Sanchez is good outside of that gem). Plus, if Paulie provides .280/30 HR/100 RBI from the DH spot we'd be good, especially since we've almost always had a good DH in the lineup.

QUOTE (docsox24 @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 03:33 PM) As long as hes not gonna be counted on as a starter it should be no risk. I don't want another Erstad situation where a scrub is getting 350 ABs. I think its pretty unlikely that he will have a big year though. I don't see Jones getting an overwhelming amount of at bats...maybe 200 AB?

QUOTE (RME JICO @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 11:31 AM) http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2009/no...t-hold-meeting/ On that link, teams of interest are the Red Sox, Dodgers, Mariners, Mets, White Sox. With the Red Sox now pushing for Halladay, they could be crossed off. The Dodgers are in the division, going through an owners divorce, and apparently in the Miguel Cabrera "hunt". So, that goes against them. How do the Mariners and Mets farm systems compare with the Sox? If the Red Sox and Dodgers were to be out of the race, the price could be a bit lower...
