  1. Well, I was actually thinking about this trade last night. Can someone fill me in on why the BoSox would trade Ellsbury? Do they have a ready to go CF prospect (I doubt BA is their solution). But I'd do it, because it fills 3 holes...Leadoff, OF, and Bullpen. Move Jacoby to LF (isn't Rios a better defender?) and Quentin to right and you've got your speedy LF guy, defensive possible all-star bat in CF, and power bat in right. Then I still do the "please can't these die" rumors of the Sox getting Gonzalez, by giving up any 5-6 players the Padres want from the minors. Even D2 at this point, since Ellsbury would pretty much kill chances of him starting here for a while. Sign Blanco for backup C. Then, for the SS/2B hole, I sign Uribe/Hudson/Polanco. And if that's not possible and we are able to keep Retherford in the AGon deal...well, I'd be against starting CJ at 2B, but would be OK with it since we'd have this lineup (Note: CJ not included in mockup) LF - Ellsbury SS/2B - Uribe/Hudson/Polanco 2B/SS - Beckham 1B - Gonzalez RF - Quentin DH - Konerko CF - Rios C - AJ 3B - Teahen SP - Buehrle SP - Peavy SP - Danks SP - Floyd SP - Garcia CL - Thornton SU - Bard SU - Okajima MRP - Pena MRP - Linebrink LRP - Carrasco LRP - Torres/Hynick/Nunez (depends on who's still with organization) 1B/OF - Kotsay OF - Jones 2B/SS/3B - Vizquel C - Blanco Only thing I dislike is there really isn't a speed guy on the bench.
  2. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Nov 27, 2009 -> 03:39 AM) Hey everyone, sorry to bring a thread back from the dead, but... It seemed that my photoshopped pic of a white guy's head over Dye's body was prophetic, because I just noticed on the official White Sox website that they actually photoshopped Peavy's head on Dye's body in the same picture!!! Oh god, where is it!?
  3. I honestly see the JR-Kenny-Hahn-Ozzie group being together as long as JR is owner of the team. Then it depends on what happens from there.
  4. I can see a splash happening or not...I'd love to get Gonzalez, but I can easily see that happening or not happening. Also, I really don't see Paulie being traded. Especially for a pitcher who really has done nothing other than throw a no-hitter (seriously, I fail to see why Sanchez is good outside of that gem). Plus, if Paulie provides .280/30 HR/100 RBI from the DH spot we'd be good, especially since we've almost always had a good DH in the lineup.
  5. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 03:33 PM) As long as hes not gonna be counted on as a starter it should be no risk. I don't want another Erstad situation where a scrub is getting 350 ABs. I think its pretty unlikely that he will have a big year though. I don't see Jones getting an overwhelming amount of at bats...maybe 200 AB?
  6. QUOTE (RME JICO @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 11:31 AM) http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2009/no...t-hold-meeting/ On that link, teams of interest are the Red Sox, Dodgers, Mariners, Mets, White Sox. With the Red Sox now pushing for Halladay, they could be crossed off. The Dodgers are in the division, going through an owners divorce, and apparently in the Miguel Cabrera "hunt". So, that goes against them. How do the Mariners and Mets farm systems compare with the Sox? If the Red Sox and Dodgers were to be out of the race, the price could be a bit lower...
  7. I gotta admit, Kotsay, Jones, Vizquel, Blanco/Flowers/FA Catcher is a good bench...but who's the speed guy?
  8. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 06:21 PM) I wonder how he would do in baseball . . . LeBron could do any sport and dominate. He's the best athlete ever alive, and everyone knows baseball is all athleticism. I'd take him in the 2nd or 3rd round, just to sell merchandise. If he can play, that's good too.
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 03:32 AM) If we were to acquire AGon, I imagine any extension he might demand will probably use the MCab deal as a primer by his agent. Hey, they aren't using Texeira as a barometer at least... Plus, even though I'm 80% sure we'd deal out that contract, I'd be more open to giving it to Gonzalez since he has good defense on top of his bat, and no character/weight issues.
  10. QUOTE (qwerty @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 06:34 AM) Olney said this a couple hours ago. Doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot though if you ask me. Things like that generally have to be said, the padres cannot afford to look anymore desperate than they already are. Someone said it in the Miguel Cabrera thread, but unless Jed Hoyer wants to become J.P. Riccardi (not trade best trade bait on a bad team at highest value), he'll do it. What if he gets hurt like Peavy? He's getting closer to free agency, which lessens his value more. (responding to Olney's blog, not you qwerty)
  11. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 08:10 PM) danks danks 2 hudson flowers and lexi make it happen KW They'd ask for Beckham before Flowers. If we acquired Cabrera I'd throw up. I didn't want him as a Marlin, don't want him now.
  12. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 07:46 PM) It's that cut-and-dry in the NBA, but not MLB. We can be better than the '06 Cardinals. You at least have a chance when you're in the playoffs.....but once in I'd sure prefer my chances with above-average in BOTH offense and pitching It would take the current staff plus two major offensive acquisitions. Would mean trading our top prospects for one guy, perhaps Matsui signing for the other. Any way you slice it, we're going to be hardpressed to be a top AL team next year. But I just feel it's more possible w/o the scrap heap acquisitions. Definitely easier said than done though. If forced though I would take Crisp over Pods. The pitching staff will be great if we get 2 big bats. It will be solid if we don't. The staff will need run support, so we're gonna have to acquire some bats, whether it be Gonzalez, Crawford, or Upton.
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 01:54 PM) Well, I think the main question is who can make it work for THIS season. Most teams have begun getting a lot less reckless over the past few seasons regarding the long-term deals they hand out, so my guess is whichever teams can make it work for this season are those with the best opportunity. Many teams might be willing to trade players impacting their books this upcoming season to find a way to make it work though. My guess is the Red Sox, White Sox, Orioles, Angels, Dodgers and Mets would all be interested. I'd love to see a Dodgers-Red Sox bidding war for Cabrera. It would let the Sox swoop in on Adrian Gonzalez, because despite what Buster Olney says...Sox aren't in the Miguel Cabrera race. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/11/olne...a-yankees-.html Could you imagine the price the Sox would have to pay? It'd start with Beckham and Danks probably.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 05:28 PM) Eh, Griffey. Yea, Junior was the best hitter of the 90's, but Frank was #2. Maddux, Biggio, Glavine, Frank, and Piazza. 2013 could have 5 first balloter's and god it could use it. But really, Frank needs to retire now so we can retire #35.
  15. QUOTE (RME JICO @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 11:31 AM) I know it is a given that GMs deny everything, but: http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2009/no...t-hold-meeting/ Yea, GMs do deny everything...didn't Kenny deny Rios? Go hard after Adrian, Kenny. Go hard.
  16. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 01:55 PM) Hey Cowley. Even Jake Peavy said it. No way Peavy is more inside the Sox than Cowley.
  17. Did not need to see Hesters a**. Or Cutler failing...again.
  18. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 09:48 PM) Don't children typically arrive about 9 months after their mothers come? Words can not describe the perfection of that one.
  19. Got all but the back to back no-no's (remembered once it said them
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 11:39 AM) OMG, thats so Juan Uribe. Not only is he a little thick like Juan, but that HR swing was pure Uribe. Exactly what I was thinking...man I miss Uribe. Maybe Retherford should go reverse-Sammy Sosa, change his name to CJ Uribe, and number to five. Then we have Juan back.
  21. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 05:09 PM) Upton has a world of talent. We're talking a guy who could put up 30-40. If he could ever get his s*** together. His problem is that he's lazy, the minute he gets his head in the game, he'll set the world on fire. Look at his results in the playoffs when he has something to play for there's no stopping him. Great, now I just pictured Alexei and Upton meeting in between SS and CF and playing tag during a game. We need to get these guys to focus. That or make them watch High School Musical's "Getcha Head in the Game" a million times till they get sick of it.
  22. QUOTE (Ranger @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 12:12 PM) I'd break out in hives if I let stupid opinions go unchalleged. And it's easy to tell when an opinion is stupid (like the guy in 2007 who said, all things being equal, i.e. salary, he'd rather have Rowand than Ichiro). I love that Sox fans have passion, but I just want some of them to be a little more level-headed about it. My favorites were after the Cubs loss, people wanting to send Linebrink to AAA, since we apparently had better down there. Or sending Alexei to AAA after the 13 inning Dodger fest...I remember you being peeved but dismissing that idea.
  23. QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 04:28 PM) From the St. Pete Times. Upton would definitely cost a lot...unsure if he'd be worth it.
  24. 20...couldn't believe Valentin, that was a shot in the dark.
  25. "WEIGHT WATCHERS: SUN-TIMES EXCLUSIVE" JC is the clever. Regardless, Bobby needs to be in shape, or just be dominant again, because no one complained when Ozzie did the Wide-and-Tall gesture.
