They could spot start Hudson or Torres since Sept. call ups will have happened...

QUOTE (Jeremy @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 02:12 AM) Strikes me as a no-lose situation considering how terrible Jose has been lately. Worst case scenario is that we give Hudson a shot and he shows his inexperience. Best case scenario is that Peavy is ready and pitches well. Really, what do we have to lose? A game and division. But that risk is there no matter who of the 3 pitches. Best Scenario: Peavy pitches and dominates Yankees sat. Peavy vs. Yankees career: 2 G, 0-2, 3.60 ERA, 10 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1 HR, 2 BB, 8 K's Middle Scenario: Dan Hudson makes his ML debut. He'd probably be roughed up, since in his first few starts at every level he has shown signs of needing adjustment. Fortunately he adjusts face. Worst: No fifth starter is in place, for some reason Jose pitches. Maybe he could be Good Jose and not Bad Jose.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 11:54 PM) Fields is also a strikeout machine who can’t catch a fastball, and a defensive black hole. I was screaming at the TV when I saw him at 1B over Paulie in the Perfecto. I kept thinking he'd blow it on the last play.

If Hawk dies the way he wants to (in the middle of a HR call for the Sox) I'll cry. Because the Sox will lose their voice.
-
Quick, some reporter out there call the Sox crap and meaningless and question Ozzie and Kenny's manhoods. That'll fire 'em up.
-
After tonight (both Jose and Peavy's performances), I expect him back Saturday.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 03:14 AM) Frank Thomas That would possibly be one of the happiest days in Sox history. If Frank didn't mind coming off the bench once in awhile, it'd be a nice bat to have in a pinch. And he could retire here.
-
all they need is ONE freaking winning steak. It'd be nice if this was that time, because I wouldn't mind dishing it out to the Yankees and Red Sox and Cubs and Twins and Tigers. Seriously, ONE winning streak is keeping us out.

"Gordon Beckham's a special player, just like Derek Jeter was"

Can't I just vote Ozzie instead? But I'll go with Valentin, based off the 'stash.

Hopefully Peavy can get back in 5 games, so we don't need to do a fifth starter again. As much as a I love Jose, it's time he was demoted.

Excellent Jayson Stark Piece - Must Read RE: Draft
Quin replied to Kenny Hates Prospects's topic in FutureSox Board
Trading Picks is a must have. Slotting system like NBA would be very, very nice. Retaining draft rights after deadline would help a lot (Aaron Crow, you want to get to the MLB? Join the Nats and not what ever team drafted you this year (Royals?)) If foreign players want to join the MLB, they must be drafted. No taking away teams picks. You can add picks for players that turn down arbitration, but thats it. Have the draft in the off season. -
Slayer would easily be the #1 pick if the 08 Draft was redone. Thats why if it comes down to two shortstops named Beckham, pick the one that's stellar in college over a high school one. I'll take the more polished guy every time.

True, the Sox seem to play to the level of their competition. Which is very frustrating.

Interesting to look at this assessment coming into 09
Quin replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Kenny can't get higher than a B+ Because it stands for Big Balls. -
Why did my brother and I go last night and not tonight damnit...

Forgot about Wasserman, I saw him lose a game in Charlotte (Aardsma blew the save). My dad said he'd never see the majors. 3 days later...

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 22, 2009 -> 06:00 PM) WAS IT OVER WHEN THE GERMANS BOMBED PEARL HARBOR?! NO! But no, not done. Peavy coming in is more than having a good pitcher on staff, it'll give a morale boost.

QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Aug 22, 2009 -> 04:54 PM) I thought this would be a fun thread to speculate on who we think might be called up when rosters expand in September. Here's my predictions: 1. Peavy (will just be called up) 2. Getz (activated off DL) 3. Wise (activated off DL) 4. Nunez 5. Armstrong Who's your predictions? Peavy's on the DL, so he can be on a playoff roster. My guesses are... 1. Peavy (off DL) 2. Getz (off DL) 3. Viciedo 4. Fields 5. Flowers 6. Egbert 7. Torres 8. Whisler 9. Marquez 10. Nunez

Jon Garland has cleared waivers according to FoxSports
Quin replied to DaveBrown85's topic in The Diamond Club
Garland would be a good 5th starter if Coop could get him back to form. If not, eh, I won't cry over him. Though he'd need a new number. -
Bummer about no rubbing it in Cubs faces, but oh well. Maybe he can beat the Twins... Career vs. Twinkies: 0-0, 2 GS, 2.84 ERA, 12.2 IP, 11 H, 13 K's, 4 BB, 0 HR, 4 ER.

Over achievers on a national scale, as we we're guessed to win MAYBE 70 games and be out by mid-July. Under achievers to Sox-dom because we know they can be alot better. Perhaps Kenny's feathers being ruffled is the spark they need.

Buehrle's good enough to be counted as a good defender, even though he's a pitcher.
-
Make upper deck tickets $9 forever And bleacher seats $27 As demonstrated by the Buehrle series, they could sell out some games with that.
