2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
Quin replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 12, 2011 -> 09:50 AM) Well, f***, I don't suppose anyone as actually looked at the problems in this trade. First, the White Sox HAVE outfielders. They may not be good outfielders, but they have outfielders. If we are still including Quentin, then they have two big upside bats, one expensive contract with high upside, one talented outfielder, and one jack of all trades outfielder. That's 5 MLB outfielders right there. Jacoby Ellsbury, him, yeah, I get it, he's good. He's not going to be 9.4 WAR good every year, but he's a legitimate 3-5 WAR player, every single year, given health. That's why it's a given here and not on the field. Josh Reddick is an outfielder. Why? Ranaudo was a college pitcher who struggled in his final season in college and did not do well in High-A this year, which is a level he should atleast succeed at, considering all of his factors. I won't rule him out, but, simply, no, no value at this point. In the meantime, the Sox give up their biggest trade chip, their second biggest trade chip, and arguably the most valuable player in the entire organization right now. Um, no You say "Ellsbury, Reddick, Ranaudo for Rios, Danks, Quentin, and Sale," and then we can talk. Until then, that is worse than any of the other hypothetical trades posted on here, which is exactly what it was. If Williams authorized that trade, then he would be canned immediately. You are in rage mode today. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 12, 2011 -> 09:34 AM) Considering you are the king of hyperbole, this post is hilariously ironic. I can name countless examples, but I have no need. Ace, as far as I'm aware, still has it in his sig. --- I can go on a giant rant about "how I've been on the internetz longerz then u bro" and "I'm such a hardcore fan that I knew Adam Dunnz was gonnaz turn it aroundz" but no. I'm the terrible fan. I'm the terrible fan. Even though I mentioned at the very bottom of my post that I wanted Mark Buehrle to go to a place where he would be comfortable - even the Cubs. --- Perhaps saying "I want that shoulder to finally pop" was over the top. I don't. But if he signs with one of those 7 teams, I want to see nothing more than 5+ ERAs and being Barry Zito without the Cy Young and the 20 win season to his credit. At that point, I want him to go down as "Mark Buehrle, the hypocrite who ruined his career by leaving Chicago." He is not only a player that is appreciated by White Sox fans, but he is a person appreciated by White Sox fans. They are a group that understand what he said and where his commitments lie. And if he were to back out on those and sign for a big deal with someone like the Red Sox? A player who so epitomizes the South Side of Chicago to go and break their hearts like that? Guess it's fitting they brought back Ventura when they did, eh? --- If Buehrle signed with Detroit, would you hope for his success? "Against everyone except us!" except there is no us, there is a baseball team and their lack of knowledge of you, personally, Steve9347. Sure, you're ticket broker knows who you are, but does Mark Buehrle care? Does Brent Lillibridge care? Does Dylan Axelrod care? Does Brooks Boyer even care? How about Minnesota? Cleveland? Kansas City? Boston? New York? Yomiuri? Miami? Probably not Miami. You're used to stars spurning Chicago for the "bright lights" of Miami now, aren't you? oh, and don't ever call me a terrible fan. You know better than that. I love both of you, but damn.

Seriously though, I don't know how to describe how euphorically happy I am that J&D is getting an HD Collection. I have them on PS2...but my launch PS3 died. It's still Naughty Dog story telling, so the characters are rich and deep. And if it means a Jak 4...Jak X was a racing spin off, Daxter was a spin off, and f*** the Lost Frontier...a J&D made by Naughty Dog, then I will be so happy. The Jak and Daxter games are why I love gaming.

QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 03:55 PM) Hasn't this been the case for years? KW seems to think that some big FA acquisition will compensate for our total lack of a farm system. Well, how's that been workin' out for ya? Question: when was the last homegrown player we brought up who turned into an every day kind of guy? I asked my co-worker this and the only ones we could think of recently were Buehrle and Crede. We're counting Gordo as a question mark right now. Outside of that, who? Hudson, Young, Carter, Gio, Santos, Gordon, Morel. You asked every day kind of guys. There they are.

Need to get rid of someone? Catapult them into a wall. Need to get somewhere? Catapult yourself with a parachute. Make your students create an egg-safety-thing that can withstand a drop? Catapult. Don't like your neighbors fancier yard? Catapult. Need to get into Mordor? A f***ing catapult.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) Yeah, I caught that the second time around, and if it is only going to be for a year or two, it makes even less sense to me. True, if you blow it up and are a contender from your 'spects, its generally for 3 or 4. 1 or 2 years is the method KW took in '05-'06

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 02:10 PM) I never said they would go from 60 wins to World Series contender in one or two years. Agreeing with Marty on this one. He said being a contender for one or two years, not in one or two years. That felt weird.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 12:37 PM) It doesn't look like person 3 helped much. Looks like he or she is sort of an idiot, and certainly didn't have his or her facts straight. P1 is my sports editor. He and I mourned over not being true college football fans as well as Penn State haters.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) I wasnt talking to you Quinarvy. I was speaking to Milkman who seems to be getting actually angry about someone else holding a different opinion. Sorry for the snarky comment then Badger. I was the only one who typed anything related to killing, so I thought it was for me.

FACEBOOK TRANSCRIPT: Status of Person 1: Sad that it seems there's more outrage at PSU from students about Joe Paterno's firing than the horrific crimes his assistant coach committed. Person 2: Please don't tell me your blaming Joe pattern too? Paterno* Person 3: You're not blaming him for his role in this? P1: Is not reporting a crime not worth an ounce of blame? Not just ANY crime, by the way. A disgusting, terrible one. P3: Just because he didn't necessarily break any laws, by not doing anything, he is just as bad as that ass-clown who did break the law. P1: Everybody who knew and didn't report it are equally responsible for enabling a sex offender. Simple as that. P2: How can you say your a college football fan when your blaming the greatest football coach in this era for something he didn't even do. He didn't rape the kids the assistant DID!!!! He reported it like any other person would have done. It wasn't him tht push the subject under the rug it was the guys upstairs at Penn state not him!!!! So honestly tell me were he is to blame!! P3: oh my god. get out of here. You're an idiot. He did NOT report it, you clown. that's the whole problem he told the higher ups, who did nothing. He had a DUTY to HIS athletes to report the crime to the police. He covered up the molestation of his players by one of his coaches. DOn't you see what's wrong there? P1: This isn't about football, first of all. Second of all, I don't understand how you don't understand why NOT reporting a sex offender is a bad thing. Who knows how many more kids lives were affected simply because Paterno didn't go to the police? When the officials swept it under the rug, the right thing to do was to go to the authorities. He didn't, and thus, he is just as guilty as the rest of the administration. P2: I am the idiot? You must not be a sports fan or maybe your a Penn state hater! All the people who think Paterno is to blame are the idiots including you! P3: It's not about sports. You're obviously too shallow to understand the depth of this issue. It'd be like my little brother telling me he murdered someone, me telling my parents, and after they don't do anything about it, me just keeping it quiet and not reporting the crime to the authorities. Please, tell me that I would be right in that situation. Please. P1: You won't get a response, I just kicked him off my friends list. I actually don't even know who that guy was.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 12:07 PM) lol I think the irony is delicious that you want someone who has a different opinion than you killed. Because I totally wasn't using hyperbole to illustrate a point. No, I really want to load Franco Harris and Matt Millen into catapults, aim them for brick walls, then fire, THEN proceed to clean it.
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 11:58 AM) Can he seriously not realize how retarded his statement was when considering the source of the whole blowup? All the people looking at this from a "football" perspective and not a "holyf***childrenwereraped" perspective need to be shot out of a catapult directly into a brick wall.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 11:45 AM) THE IRONY IN THAT STATEMENT IS UTTERLY DELICIOUS. Black. f***ing. Humor.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 04:09 AM) I suppose that's one of the positives after finishing college / university and working standard 40 hour weeks, you do have time to game in the evenings, but you probably won't finish anything for at least a week or so. Skyrim is meant to have up to 300 hours to play through, that's insane. Saints Row 3 got a 8.5 as well BTW. Quite keen to check that one out as I haven't played the first 2. And MGS HD Collection got a 9.0 last week. Jesus. I'm trying to set aside like, an hour or two a night to unwind and play games. Skyrim will consume my soul.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 02:46 AM) Im putting off buying any games until winter break, I get hooked to easily. I had to continue my run of six straight Naughty Dog games bought at launch. Revelations...I might get launch week. But Skyrim...just no. Can't do it. It will consume my soul.
-
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 02:31 AM) Certainly is, and there's still Saints Row 3, Assassins Creed Revelations and a few others to come out. At least I'm putting Skyrim off until December. I want to pass finals.

2011-2012 OFFICIAL NBA LOCKOUT thread

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 02:37 AM) 50-50 BRI Split, but sounds like the players want less luxury tax restrictions (allowing more player movement), and some other system issues. Frankly right now, I think this is the best offer they're going to get for a while. And the players are probably split whether to accept it or not. You've got your hardliners like KG and Paul Pierce who have earned plenty of cash in their careers saying no, while a lot of the younger players would probably accept (because they need their paychecks ASAP). I hate KG. -

2011-2012 OFFICIAL NBA LOCKOUT thread

Apparently, the offer is being taken to player reps for a vote. Take the f***ing deal. Also, Stern said a 72 game schedule would start Dec. 15 That's great for the Bulls, who aren't tool old and are deep. It's bad for the Celtics who will get tired due to age and the Heat who will run LeBron, Bosh, and Wade into the ground. -
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 07:29 PM) I don't know what that means. In minors for six years = can declare free agency. I thought that was it, but didn't know if DSL counted.
