  1. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 12:57 PM) Curious reply by Coop to the question of was he telling Williams what was being said in the clubhouse. "What was I saying that wasn't in the paper?" Not exactly a denial from Coop. You could see where this might tick people off. Curious article by Cowley since he's talking about another teams manager instead of our recently hired one.
  2. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 12:33 PM) I love how Cowley is digging his own grave. I'm going to start selling popcorn to the show.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 12:28 PM) Nobody has a clue. Maybe he'll push people to try to beat Dimaggio's hit streak record. THat'd be fun. "Adam Dunn has just homered in 57 straight games."
  4. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 12:31 PM) Mac called out Cowley for not talking about the hire, instead focusing on Guillen's crap.... again Cowley reports the truth, the Oz truth, and nothing but the truth.
  5. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 12:27 PM) "as a journalist, my job is to tell the truth"... then went on to say since he was "cut off" from one side, so he told the truth from the other side. In other words, s***ty journalism.
  6. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 12:13 PM) Well that's conveniently vague. Conveniently related to the thread topic.
  7. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 11:09 AM) You guys can keep trying to misconstrue the argument all you want, be so far no one has shown me a correlation of experience = results or no experience= no results. You bring up Joe Girardi, at what time does a guy get enough experience? What is your magic number, 1 year, 5 years, 20 years? The argument is that experience alone does not make a manager (neither good nor bad). I personally think the hire was an out of the box move, it remains to be seen whether it pays off or not, but I feel hes a huge upgrade to Ozzie, and I prefer him to Martinez/Alomar as well. Yeah, whatever the magic number, Robin didn't meet it.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 02:46 AM) I just read all the Trib articles and Lamont's quotes and this is a scary hire. Yes I believe Cowley. If he's wrong, he's putting his job on the line. What Cooper did is really sleazy. Nobody likes a backstabber. It's WRONG. If this was the 1950s, Ozzie would beat his ass. But nowadays he'll spend time in prison for smashing Coop a good one in the nose. (I'm assuming the article is true; if not, my bad). Scary? It's rather tame. Ozzie is scary. He's a crappy journalist and his sources are always wrong. What makes them all of the sudden right? He spreads lies to get others fired or spreads their personal information. That's sleazy. Cooper asked about an extension since his contract was up this year. Ozzie demanded one despite having a deal next year. You apparently LOVE backstabbers. If this was the 1950's, Ozzie wouldn't be managing or allowed near Coop, but changing Ozzie's ethnicity, his ass would get kicked by Buerhle, Hawk, Stone, Paulie, Swisher, Cabrera, Lee, Tracey, Ordonez, A-Rod, Sean Penn, Joe West, KW, Garland, McCarthy, Thome, Morel, Teahen, etc. Oney's ass would get kicked, Ozney would fail in the Minors Yeah, because assaulting people isn't ok. You're seriously f***ing justifying assault to make Ozzie look cool.
  9. I have a Mac and an iPod. I hate using the Mac though. I mean I can get by, but for me, my PC makes life easier. iPod I can't hate on. It's an classic, because I just use it for music. At the same time, Jobs helped innovate. Plus, anytime someone dies of something other than old age, it's sad. But Wozniak's tweet was gold.
  10. Did Greg just say great column by Cowley? I can write one with my "sources" just as easily. Cowley's a hack who only go to where he is by sucking up.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:11 PM) Ventura said they brought this up to him last week. I wonder if Cowley will call him a liar. Funny Joe wrote months ago Daryl Boston would be the replacement, then a couple days ago said it would be Dave Martinez, now he says its been Ventura for months and he'll have a timeline. He's a joke. It's funny cause Cowley is a bad journalist. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:14 PM) Seriously, what kind of stuff is he going to preach? The triangle offense? Again, layoff the Beam. This. Guys, its MLB manager. The decisions aren't hard with modern day stats ready 24/7, unless you're Ozzie. If he can help people, which he has enough baseball knowledge and seemingly-not-asshole persona that he probably can. Is it the best hire? No. He would have been my fourth choice, but come on.
  12. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 10:58 PM) Sucks that you can't move classic team players. Last year I replaced all the worst players in the leagues with the classic players and started a franchise with a fantasy draft. That was some fun stuff. You can. Put them in Association, then export the team.
  13. I'm not as mad as I thought, I wanted Robin to be Martinez's bench coach after all. I think Robin can do it, I just want to know why Martinez and Alomar were all passed over.
  14. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:27 PM) I'm starting the campaign to have Karkovice as bench coach. "Come see all your favorite players manage together! Except Ozzie, f*** that guy."
  15. Ray Durham should be named bench coach (take over Cora's role). Black Jack can be the bullpen coach. Harold first base coach. Frank is the hitting coach. Name Valentin the 3rd base coach. It's a big 90's reunion with Ozzie not invited.
  16. I feel like this is Kenny setting up a 90's Sox Reunion and just not inviting Walker or Ozzie to spite them.
  17. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 02:09 PM) Completely understanding your logic, but maybe we shoud have put Kenny Williams on waivers first? We're not getting anything for a guy in AA, come on.
  18. QUOTE (danman31 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 02:45 AM) The bitterness is strong in this thread. As someone who despises Apple, this. Sure, I wasn't a fan of him or currently of Apple, but you can respect the hell out of him.
  19. QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 10:06 PM) Beckham, barely hit his weight all year... Viciedo.. Where does he play? Morel.. He played all year, outside of Kenny needing to show Tehan off to trade. De Aza.. See Viciedo. Flowers.. See Viciedo 1) Ok. 2) RF 3) Fair. 4) CF 5) C
  20. QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 09:59 PM) Almost only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, my arguments, and nuclear warfare... It just another BUST from KW.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 09:55 PM) 2.) I'm glad you guys remember so many of my points. I take that as a compliment. If I didn't get under your skin with my sometime logical arguments, you wouldn't be so upset as to remember my position on things. My ludicrous arguments sure get quoted a lot on here. I consider that a moral victory. You have three points, not hard to keep track of. 1) Managers don't effect games. 2) Florida will string off multiple championships, because their young manager will...effect games? 3) Bobby and Dye are the exact same players today as in '05.
  22. QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 09:48 PM) Well him being right is about the same as a lord and savior.. So, the fact that I'm an atheist probably alters this then? Actually, considering your avatar, it's beautifully ironic.
  23. I disliked Jobs and dislike Apple, but I respected the hell out of that man. R.I.P. Steve Jobs
  24. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 01:31 PM) greg has become a living caricature That's what ludicrous backtracking arguments do for you.
