  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 07:56 PM) No one is taking that money on. Not for Rios + Dunn. Oh god, I wouldn't do that. Crawford might bounce back, but his contract will be bad if not worse at its end.
  2. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 07:25 PM) Because he strikes out a lot.
  3. When trying to accept it, he dropped it twice than couldn't even reach it on the third try,
  4. Crawford, contract considered and the fact that he was an A+ deal to Klaw while Paulie was a D.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 02:34 PM) The new manager will properly motivate him and it's 45 homers again from Mr. Dunn! And .325 from Rios! And what if that does happen?
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:09 PM) Man, just watching the Rays game last night, everytime they showed Maddon, Martinez was right there with his own scribbles on paper. They almost seem like equals in that dugout... I'd be very satisfied with his being hired as manager. I sure hope KW/Jerry do their due diligence. I loved his quote. "If you're not a fan of baseball...you're not a fan!"
  7. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 02:25 PM) You should not be so defensive.
  8. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 02:10 PM) Guillen won a title as a 3B coach. I could be a damn 3B coach in the MLB. That means nothing.
  9. Guillen and Williams WS Titles With Tim Raines: 1 Without: 0
  10. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:59 PM) Williams has no World Series titles or even post-season appearances with managers other than Guillen. And Guillen doesn't have them with another GM...
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:57 PM) God I hate having to do this. I really do. Marty's right. The USA Today Passan The fact that Alexei was there in CF on opening day was anqother of Ozzie's classic lineup experiments, like Jerry Owens in LF and Carlos Quentin on the bench. Goddamnit Balta.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:52 PM) It wasn't. Sarcasm.
  13. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:55 PM) So Williams has a world title and a higher winning percentage. Guillen has a world title and a lower winning percentage. Do.Not.Follow. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:56 PM) Guillen World Series Titles with Williams: 1 Guillen World Series titles with out Williams: 0 Just sayin' Marty
  14. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:51 PM) Ok, then Williams got Quentin to be a reserve OF'er. One or the other. He did. No one expected Quentin to be the monster he was. But that is what slid Swisher to be the center fielder, was that Quentin came out of nowhere.
  15. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:50 PM) I better watch out. I guess it doesn't show us that Ozzie actually lowered KW's winning percentage. It just sounds like a thinly veiled mob hit.
  16. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:44 PM) Milkman you are making a mistake by using win percentage to defend Williams over Guillen. A very big one. The f***? Is Ozzie going to come kill him or something? Ahahahaha. Also, yeah, Swisher was not acquired as a CF. Opening Day CF was Alexei.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:43 PM) Did you hear Kenny fired Joey by text after telling him he was the interim guy? f*** it, the CF and LF thing is going in the Misconception thread.
  18. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:38 PM) Alexei Ramirez was the opening day CF for the White Sox in 2008. I know, I'm trying to explain his logic even though I've pointed Alexei was the opening day CF like 193891 times.
  19. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:32 PM) I wonder why he was playing LF opening day. CF = LF? Oh, and I smiled seeing Dave Martinez on TV last night. He is obviously qualified for the job now.
  20. Tonight was beautiful. Edit: That Sons of Sam Horn thread is amazing. I love the thread title.
  21. QUOTE (Papa Tru @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:47 AM) Also, why do this with two games left in the season? To me, it reeks of "Oh, you don't want me here? Then im taking my ball and going home" No, he wasn't getting the raise because JR didn't think he deserved it and he wasn't getting KW fired because JR wanted them both back.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:31 AM) Why should it matter if KW offered to "stand down"? Should that make me admire him more? I would have more respect if he said to JR, "Look, I'm responsible for this mess, the completely dysfunctional relationship between the front office and the coaching staff, Dunn/Rios/Peavy/Hudson for Jackson/Swisher...just give me one more chance. I'm going to rededicate myself 100% to this job and the effort of getting this organization back to where it was in 2005 and 2006. I won't rest until we have a team that White Sox fans can be proud of, that plays the game correctly, that hustles, that executes fundamentals..." That he is willing to quit and escape from this mess he created doesn't really impress me at all. In actuality, he created a large amount of the structural issues that plague this organization both today, tomorrow and 3 years from now. He was the one most directly responsible for Dave Wilder, and the current complete disaster which is our talent-base in the Domincan. Even this week, he's expressing astonishment when there's no "superstar" players to be had down there for the amount the White Sox want to spend. He should be honest with JR and tell him he needs to open the purse strings more in Asia, Venezuela and the Dominican, as well as emerging markets like Brazil, Australia, India, etc. Same thing with the draft. He should tell JR that it's his fault he needs to let Buehrle and Konerko go, because of the other players who are woefully underperforming with huge contracts. If he's not capable of convincing JR that the ONLY way to change the organizational mindset is to trade away most of the core and start over with a philosophy like they're following in Tampa, Milwaukee, Toronto, Arizona, KC, Texas, etc., he should walk away from the job today. If, and only if, he really wants to "WIN THE WAR" with Ozzie Guillen, about who was more important to the 2005 World Series championship...he should prove that he can build a consistent playoff-contending team again from the ashes. KW did this in the 2007-08 offseason to an extent, but things are 3X as bleak now because of the contracts we can't get off the books until midseason 2012 at the earliest. I mentioned KW because people act like Kenny sucked up to retain his job.
  23. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 11:58 PM) I know this is just want you want, but Alomar has no reason to come here to be the bench coach when he already has that job locked up in Cleveland. I know, I'd see Omar or Robin being the bench coach before Sandy in that case. QUOTE (daggins @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 11:59 PM) Yes to all but I doubt Sandy would leave his bench coach job in Cleveland to bench coach here. Laker was the name I forgot, he should def. be given a shot. Herm should be tendered a lifetime contract. Assumed.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 12:31 AM) It makes a lot of sense. KW hired that asshat. He did. Or Jerry did. Whatever. Kenny technically hired Ozzie and said publicly he was his "boss." Jerry told the two late last season or after last season to do better and make it work. It takes two to not tango. KW is just as much to blame of the fallout with Ozzie as Ozzie. You are totally taking KW's side on that?? No...I'm pretty sure if someone really, really doesn't want to dance, they won't.
  25. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 12:24 AM) I would love to see a well-written and well-thought out essay on this matter by one of the Ozzie supporters on this thread. But that will never happen... They should fire KW instead, it was his fault!
