  1. I don't think it's good for a player to be holding out for the right contract when basically the season has started.
  2. That is the best form of shade at the Ranch.
  3. It's a different kind of 70 in the desert. I found CB Ranch to be uncomfortable in the 80's.
  4. And not one of them faced AL pitching or faced AL hitters....
  5. I really think the Sox should get organization guys that work in the Cardinal system.
  6. Ricketts did it right. He got people from winning organizations. Their scouting is very good. We were lucky to fleece them of two good prospects for Q. Plus there is some luck involved when hitting on draft choices. Some don't remember the Sox where a hot product in the 80's. Before the days of online ticket sales, our family would drive over 60 miles to the park to get tickets and had to go back home.
  7. The problem is ownership is content with that. You can't fix that.
  8. That market rate was $300M guaranteed. Who knew and only one team offered that. Free agency didn't linger this long at one time.
  9. Last season I started watching the farm system. It's a lot more fun.
  10. I'd be afraid to give him more not knowing how he will play in the AL. The Sox seem to have bad luck in that regard.
  11. I wouldn't cheer for the Cubs but I'm envious of their organization. They are superior to the Sox. Two young studs in our organization were former Cub products.
  12. People who say they got lucky in 2005 needs to be punched in the nuts.
  13. It's been that way for a long time when it comes to player development. You try to get the best executives/instructors from other winning organizations. The buddy system doesn't work.
  14. Sometimes those contracts start to look bad around year 7 and does a franchise really get their money's worth? It's not the end of the world.
  15. Too big of a risk for a guy who has not played in the AL.
  16. My MiLB is going to be renewed and I can't wait for the minors to start. No tanking there.
  17. I'm remember Kenny W. use to be into drafting athletes. They didn't turn out to be baseball players. Not a bright move by the A's. If he becomes an NFL bust I guess he can go back to baseball.
  18. How would they do that? I think there is a big difference in the talent from the pro level than the other sports.
  19. Turning their heads on steroid usage worked. Maybe it's lack of talent. I feel that way with the NFL. I think also baseball has become all about the home run and situational hitting is dead. There are no Rod Carew's, Wade Boggs. Maybe it's gotten so far away from traditional baseball. No one wants a Jaun Pierre or Mickey Rivers. What's even worse is the decline of catchers that use to be household names.
  20. TV sucks and more people are ditching cable TV because cable packages have become expensive. Most kids are into gaming. Outside of organized sports baseball isn't convenient for kids. How many open fields are there compared to a playground with a hoop? We use to play by our schools and now schools are fenced off. Many house do not have a decent size lot. In my home town they have shortened the LL season. When I was a kid it started in June and ended at the beginning of August. Now it's like May and June, done. Plus Lip brought this up about scheduling. Now it's starting in March and it makes no sense for Midwest teams to play each other.
