QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 08:12 PM) The Spiders would really be good. The Cleveland Spiders. Wow. You have something here. Send some tweets to their media. GAY! Oops a non political correct comment. Queer sports names just like the Wizards. I'm done with this thread. I am part Cherokee. It's not the end of the world what is being done in Cleveland. Maybe our team should be called the Sox too.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 26, 2017 -> 09:40 AM) I agree. I am not a big Renteria managing fan, but he has done everything asked of him and then some. They play hard. If a bunt attemptcosts you in a meaningful game, then you have a case. The White Sox did pursue Leyland when Bevington was managing. But that was Bevengton. On his worst day, Renteria is not Bevington. RR's strength may be working with younger players. I must admit I probably enjoyed the latter half of this season than the previous five because the guys played hard.

No surprise here.

QUOTE (Nokona @ Oct 20, 2017 -> 11:12 AM) I can't believe half of these fans are in the "well at least we made it this far!" camp To me, the shine really came off this team. Schwarber, bust. Russell, average. Baez, average bat ++ defense. Lester, the end is nigh. Hendricks, took 4 months to get his velocity back. Playing Happ in CF is a joke. And Bryant didn't play well at all. I can. It's been awhile since any Chicago baseball team had back to back post seasons. It appears it's much more difficult to repeat as World Series champs.

QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Oct 18, 2017 -> 09:48 PM) I'm with you, I hated the trade and this postseason did not change that. It did not take much to see than Kahnle's turnaround wasn't a fluke. Robertson may not have been valuable on a rebuilding team, but definitely earns his salary and more on a playoff team. Some guys tend to perform better when they are surrounded by better players. On bad teams stink spreads. See 2005 White Sox.

Nats are just post season chokers.

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Oct 8, 2017 -> 11:00 AM) I wouldn't worry about that too much. Sox have a deeper pitching farm than the Cubs have had since Theo took over. They will be in the market for a starter in "win now" time, but that's not a big concern right now. The one thing I would be concerned about is the White Sox ability to keep their pitchers longer term. You're probably not going to get very many Sale/Q type deals anymore. If Arrieta gets a boatload of money this offseason, expect it to get harder and harder to sign pitchers to extensions. The Sox have been that way for quite some time. They just seem to miss on position players. Maybe position players are more valued now than pitchers. Good to see the Sox going more for position players.

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Oct 9, 2017 -> 05:21 PM) We're all waiting for you to tell us what is evident to you yet the rest of baseball has long discarded. What does it tell you about a pitcher that isn't better explained by advanced value statistics? You're really trying to save pitching wins when it is clear no one uses them any longer. You aren't even justifying W-L existence anymore. They have no justification. It's pretty ridiculous that someone as intelligent as you who has watched Quintana's entire career would put any credence into pitching wins and losses. I genuinely think you're a smart guy, but you're better than this. I think they still do. Look at Sales wins on not so good Sox teams. Still won 17 last year. Sometimes a team plays better depending who is on the mound. I thought Q would be lights out in the NL, stats haven't supported that yet. You still have to include wins.

Sale has not beaten the Yankees yet this year. Some have been no decisions but some players have that kind of luck.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 04:45 PM) I watched some of the fun games. I do agree with you for the most part. I enjoyed the effort in "many" games I watched. I'm pretty sure Anderson scored from first on a single the other night and that was neat. Yes I did enjoy the "fun" moments, which we see because of the great Sox camerapeople on the broadcasts. However, as devil's advocate, I think the team still blows (as of today) as evidenced by reality setting in in the last two series with Cleveland. Man we got blown away or stifled. Not much fun when the bats are dead and when we start bringing in that core of bullpen zombies. I did feel better recently when I asked a statnik Royals fan I know what he thought of the Sox. He said, "A lot of teams have had success with the rebuild." Yes he was a bit worried. That made me feel better. Now if you could read your posts of over a year ago and see if they differ. Last year's group was only 10 games better. Unfortunately being a baseball fan takes patience if you want to build a winner the right way. Ask any Cub's fan.

I thought he would pass his career high of 17 wins with Boston.

I liked watching the guys running hard down to first. The other thing I noticed is this team is fast. I still can't stand the pen.

Is it me? Do I see more guys going opposite field this year? -
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 04:47 PM) THERE WE GO. Starting to take this tank seriously. Sign Holland back for 10mil and have him pitch complete games for the rest of the season. I so love your tank threads. I laugh at everyone of them. Great humor and the avatar goes great with them.

There's the pen always contributing to the pyre. The least likeable part of the team.

Sox are not making it easier for teams in the WC hunt.

RR for manager of the year. Over manager of the year.

Two ways to kill a rally, have your catcher bunt and Adam Engle

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 12:06 AM) Didn't see a thread to put this in. Not asking for sympathy of any kind just asking why the world can be so cruel? A good friend of mine (a kind special ed teacher in suburban Chicago) was diagnosed with breast cancer a couple years ago. Instead of her battle having a happy ending her body has been fried from all the chemo and radiation and she's in intense pain day and night. Needs more surgery; cancer free at this time but saddled with some severe health problems related to the breast cancer. Her husband divorced her a few years before she was diagnosed and I don't think has been involved in helping. She is a kind soul who is supporting not only her 3 kids but a nephew who lives in the house too. Last night her 20 something daughter got hit by a car leaving work and immediately died. Gone. My friend is in shock and engulfed in sadness. People are stepping up and trying to help. Why are all these things happening to a good person? Why? Why did so many die in the earthquake in Mexico? Why are people dying in hurricanes? Just fate? So sad. My friend is devastated and not for herself, but having her daughter unable to live life past the age of 24. Some of this is answered in a book of 66 books. Fewer people die in natural disasters these days.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 09:49 AM) I'm old so I don't watch ESPN or MTV. I watch AMC, History and Discovery. I am not quite old enough to watch Fox News or CNN unless there is a breaking something. Maybe my head is a little in the sand but I like it there and have enough to worry about getting through the day and trying to find Charlie Tilson. Is there history on the History Channel anymore? Most educational channels have turned into reality TV.

QUOTE (Donaldo @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 08:25 PM) I've heard mixed reviews. I don't podcast, but maybe I should start... I need my Mac fix. She's right. For many people, sports and politics are like oil and water. ESPN is losing viewers in droves, and they're too STUPID to figure out why. I haven't watched SportsCenter (or ANY non-sporting event on that network) in over 20 years. There is this history of those in the entertainment industry that go political have ended a career and keep spewing nonsense just to let you know they exist.

QUOTE (ecupittfan @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 08:44 PM) Agree completely. So many top 50 prospects amount to nothing, every year it happens. You have a all star who is a solid teammate who is going into his prime right now. Why in the world would you trade him? You need a few veterans to help these young guys. Especially this organization when it comes to position players.

Another season almost gone and I will miss it.

QUOTE (Soha @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 10:49 AM) I'm the opposite. The rebuild has re-energized me. I've watched more Sox games this year than I have in 7 or 8 years at least. The least interesting thing in sports for me is a team that is treading in mediocrity for 5-10 years. That the Sox have finally pulled themselves out of that has been so fun. Yep. The current team is kinda likeable. Abreau seems to have improved in fielding. Like that Avi is having a good season. Something I have noticed is this team is really fast. There's a lot of team speed. I still don't like the pen. If you're a Blackhawk fan you always have something to look forward too. I don't care for basketball and I'm starting to like hockey even more. -

QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 03:55 PM) It means FINALLY not being friggin Africa-hot out here!!!! Agree with ya about football...I really find myself just not caring more and more with each passing season. People bag on baseball for being boring...but good lord...go to a football game and count the minutes you're sitting there with your thumb up your arse waiting for either the tv timeouts to be over....and another mindless review. It's gotten unbearable honestly. Baseball is...and will always be the best sport in my mind. This offseason is a little different in terms of the Sox...the major deals are already done (for the most part)...sign a few bullpen pieces...and wait for spring. I don't want to wish it away...because like Jimmy said...I'm at the opposite end...when baseball starts it means Africa-hot isn't too far off. Personally...I'm so ready to move out of this oven!!! Wish I could be a snowbird lol. Ever been to any of the fall league games? Far more comfortable than even spring training. We went to one ST night game in Surprize this year and it was nice out. Glendale just seems uncomfortable during the day.
