QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 10:55 PM) 26 home runs in his first season? And he still hasn't had that many at bats. I happen to love what he's done. If he somehow got to 30 I'd hoist a Miller Lite for him. 30 frickin homers in part time duty basically. It's so weird how different I am philosophy wise than most posters on this board. I guess it's old school eye test guy vs. modern advanced statniks. Could be the 2nd coming of Josh Fields.

The Era of the No-Good, Very Bad Home Run Hitter
kitekrazy replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 01:40 PM) If he plays out his contract, or even most of it, his career average will drop below .300 and his OPS may drop into the .800's. Crazy after how good he was the majority of his career. Crazy how bad that contract is. -
Hawk is so much better with Wimpy. I tuned in just for that.

This Gioloto guy is impressive so far.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 11:21 AM) This reminds me of the Sox in 2005. The fade is occurring at about the same time. They will get the ship righted and start sailing soon. The Indians are hot, and that is great for them, but cooling off is going to happen. Same here. They may be getting hot at the wrong time.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 06:53 PM) Don't think we'll compete for a WC but do think we'll be better than expected. I could see us winning 75-81 games. I think if they are floating around the .500 mark you will see a boost in attendance.

Are we allowed to get nervous about Moncada at this point?
kitekrazy replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Whatever happened to "no we're not bringing this guy up this season"? I think maybe our expectations are not realistic. Some guys look great when there is a lot of talent around them. -
Holland released, Fry called up, Moncada activated.

QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 12:59 PM) I'll give Holland credit for taking the ball and not making excuses. Wish him well. He has like $6M credited to his account, can't see any player that bad making excuses. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 3, 2017 -> 09:02 PM) Another bad September start... They should have left him in. Addison Reed didn't help much.

No wonder these guys are striking out. Look at that shade.

Nice job by the staff today as long as your name isn't Holland.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 3, 2017 -> 02:35 PM) Ha Holland is special Coop'll fix him!

Always a Verlander fan and I'm glad he's doing great. If you are a team close to winning a world series you have to make choice like this.

sox marketing technique - acquiring attractive players

Ever noticed that baseball players no matter what they look like it's their wives that are often hot. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 10:03 PM) Can we have a Holland traded thread too plz thx Post of the week! This made me laugh a lot.

Someones gotta do it: Sox @ Twins 8/30
kitekrazy replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in 2017 Season in Review
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 08:36 PM) They are a mediocre team with a negative pythag (some luck in close games) that is "in the playoff hunt" because of the 2nd WC. Honestly this is about where the Sox should be in 2019, maybe even next year. I don't think it;s that far fetched. -

So this game probably isn't worth my time? Q is on the mound for the Cubs, I may watch that. -

QUOTE (Scoots @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 08:13 PM) Does it amaze anyone else that Minnesota was just absolutely awful last year (remember that long winless streak they had to start the season), and this year they have a wild card spot if playoffs were to start tomorrow, end of August. Just nuts how that works. Granted there still is a month left, but the Twins are almost always the small market underdog team in the league to make a push for the playoffs (although they never get very far) Their farm system started to suck so they fired the people responsible. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 11:22 PM) I would love to see the examples of fan doubt during Franks early years. There wasn't. He's a HOF player. Amazed to see a young hitter with that much intelligence at the plate. Pitchers couldn't pitch around him without putting him on base. I hope we get to see someone like that again in a Sox uniform. I know everyone is into HRs but Frank could place the ball anywhere when guys tried to pitch around. I'd love to see the games Frank played before the steroid era. What an intelligent hitter. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 10:09 PM) Kitekrazy is closer to the truth than you give him credit for I believe in the sophomore slump. Many guys come up once the season started and do fine. Then when they start that full season that magic doesn't happen. It could be scouts got a better angle on them or the pressure after having success. I expected that to happen to Frank but it didn't. We see so many examples of this. I think Alexei was voted the best player in Chicago before playing a full season, then there was Avi, Beckham. Sometimes I do fear that organization may be bringing guys up too soon. Remember Tim Anderson was not going to be brought up last season. There's always this debate of when to bring someone up. I do wonder if Renteria's strength is getting more out of younger players. Some of them probably listen to the hitting coach too. -

8/27 White Sox Winner and recent run of solid pitching
kitekrazy replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 27, 2017 -> 10:04 PM) Over the last 20 games the Sox have gone 11-9. They just concluded an 8 home stand going 5-3 . The recent run is because of solid pitching mostly from Rodon, Gonzalez and Shields and a surprising decent run from the bullpen. It has also coincided with a hot streak from Nicky Delmonico to offset games missed from Matt Davidson who proves his worth with a 3 run bomb in today's win. Tim Anderson and Yolmer Sanchez have contributed walk off hits in this stretch . Matt Davidson had 2 walk off hits in a row right before this 20 game stretch so the Sox have been playing some exciting baseball. Reynaldo Lopez had a solid debut in a game the Sox eventually won. Lucas Giolito has had a solid and very good start going 1-1 in his 2 starts. They won the series against the Tigers without help from Delmonico and Moncada who both were placed on the DL prior to the series . Moncada also had been playing some exciting ball recently showing off the wheels and contributing to late inning wins. It's probably no coincidence that the Sox bullpen has improved with the good starting pitching easing the bullpen load. Over his last 58 AB's Avi Garcia has 25 hits for a .431 batting average .493 OBP . 500 SLG and ,993 OPS . Avi has been reduced to a singles hitter during this span with only 4 doubles in those 25 hits . This is probably due to recent hand/wrist injuries . Give him credit though . Right when he was slumping and average creeping back toward .300 he has upped it back to .322 . In the last 30 games who is leading the Sox in RBI ? In the unlikely event you guessed Yolmer Sanchez you would be right. Yolmer went 3/4 driving in a run in the Sox 7-1 victory against the Tigers today. His last 7 games he has 3 HR and 9 RBI and also has raised his OPS on the season to over .700 . Jose Abreu has been the rock of the lineup hitting HR's and fielding much better the 2nd half of the season. I know it sucks for draft pick position but when the young guys contribute to victories I can't be unhappy about it. I've spent my whole life cheering for Sox wins and it's just counter-intuitive to do otherwise. Besides I know I am not alone here in wanting these youngsters to experience the thrills of victories and growing together. Quote of the week. How much credit goes to Renteria? That's the scary part. I guess it depends on who is still there next season but anything can happen in baseball. The team could dabble in being a division contender in 2018 if some teams regress. It could be just like most Sox seasons, you get fooled a month or two then reality sets in. The difference is no veterans contribute to that disappointment.
