QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 5, 2017 -> 01:20 PM) In my opinion it's because they have (had) the ability to make sense of the entire picture. They have access to the managers, the players, the front offices. Baseball is more, far more, in my opinion than just stats. Stats can play a part in things (and again in my opinion are vastly overemphasized by many who think they are "experts" because they can decipher things like fWAR and FIP) but baseball is still a game played by human beings...with stories to tell that go far beyond raw numbers. Sport journalism in the digital age has regressed. I can't stomach the NFL anymore because it's littered with ex players and few journalists. You even see that in large city newspapers. More often it resembles politics instead of reporting. They often create articles for controversy. Thanks ESPN. As for some of these baseball stats I can name most of the acronyms. These stats they comes up with like pitch framing somehow make a Tyler Flowers useful. There's a point no stat is needed to understand you wont win a lot of games with certain players on the field. There's also the NFL combine that is meaningless to what a guy can do on the field.

May 3rd Game Thread: White Sox at KC Royals

Who is Cody Asche? Waddaya know about him? -
QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 10:00 PM) With Avi becoming one of the best hitters in all of baseball, should we make the move now to secure him long term? I think we could get a good discount based upon his performance of the last several years. Perhaps something like 6 years / $72 million? $12 million a year could still be a steal for someone capable of winning a triple crown and he's still young enough to be an integral part of our team when the prospects mature. I know some may say I sound crazy......but you have to roll the dice sometimes and this may be a good time to gamble. Best sarcasm I've read all week.

So do you try to watch all of the affiliates. This is tempting. It's much better than my $30 monthly cable bill.
-
I see you can watch farm games for $49. Anyone subscribe to this?

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 18, 2017 -> 01:25 PM) The Sox are my fav team followed by the Black Hawks and I follow both closely. To that end I always think spring training is worth it. Can't wait for it to start tthen can't wait for the season to start. Once players get in a Sox uniform they are Sox so makes no difference to me if there is roster turn over. It's fun watching the young guys and imagining them all reaching their potential even though I know very few will. If you can't get excited about guys like Moncada and Kopech I don't know what to tell you. Even some of our left handed youngsters like Hayes and Delmonico have had nice springs. I suppose our levels of interest depends on our mindsets. You say with the rebuild you have lost interest whereas to me it's still the WHite Sox and they always interest me. Just because they are rebuilding and you know before hand they will lose many games it's really no different than previous seasons . Now the Sox are just being more honest with the fans instead of making half-cocked roster decisions and pretending to compete. After reading some articles about a farm system worth bragging about it may lure me to follow the minors a lot.

I could see Camelback Ranch from my roof if I wanted to. I drive by it often. With the rebuild in place there doesn't seem any excitement from my end. Part of that has been I'm so into the Blackhawks that I haven't paid attention to anything in the NFL or MLB. Are some of the prospects putting in some time, guys that most likely will not be on the Sox opening roster? I haven't been to a ST game in a few years. I thought about going maybe once this year but it seems like with a few guys gone it's like watching another team. What has your experience been and what would make it worth going? If you came from the Midwest this past week or this week it must be shock to experience 90+ weather. It is for me and I live here.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 05:35 PM) A player is worth what someone is willing to pay him. Period. MLB is rolling in money, they basically are printing it hand over fist. One of the reasons the Sox are in the position they are in is because they haven't been willing to go maximum dollars for players who become available and are difference makers. I thought I read somewhere last year where the Sox are one of only three teams in MLB to have never given out a 100 million dollar deal. Instead we get the Austin Jackson's, Jeff Keppinger's and Adam LaRoche's of the world usually. Mark Using resources to acquire veteran NL talent has been a fail. -
QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Dec 1, 2016 -> 10:56 AM) The entire goal of trading Sale is to improve the team in the long run. If the Cubs put together the package that gives you the best shot of doing that, it's silly to turn them down just because they're the Cubs. All that tells me is that you're not all that confident in your scouting and evaluations in the first place and you're scared about it blowing up in your face. If you do your job, you're the one coming out ahead in the long run, or at least equal if it's a trade that truly helps both teams. That said, I think the Cubs are out because they're not a match. The just won a WS and already have a strong, deep rotation (at least for 2017). They don't need to be giving up major pieces from their MLB roster/WS team. And I don't think they have the prospects to get a deal done without that. I'd be willing to trade Sale for a couple of their scouts.

Rumor: Dodgers & Sox discussing Sale & Frazier
kitekrazy replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 07:55 PM) Sox only deal with Yankees if Sanchez is involved in my opinion, and that's not happening It seems like the trend is organizations are reluctant to trade valuable position players when it involves aces. They prefer to over pay for pitching in the free agent market. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 03:58 PM) They are capable of making excellent trades. Eaton for Santiago was a steal.Everyone is going to miss. The good ones just don't do it as often. They can miss on the short term guys. But if they trade Sale, Q, or Eaton, that has to be looked back on 3 or 4 years from now fondly. I'll fall off the bandwagon and be left behind. I believe you still build around pieces like that if they are cost controlled.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 03:06 PM) Also factoring in the White Sox aren't trading Sale for 18 year olds. They're targeting near ready players. Now I know there's no guarantee they hit but I'm confident in Hahn's ability to make the right deals. He's shown that while being our GM. Like getting that James Shields guy. Adam LaRoche.......
-
QUOTE (striker @ Nov 15, 2016 -> 09:49 AM) White Sox lack depth. When you are rebuilding and you can turn one player into more players you do it (as long as it's the right deal). Eaton and Robertson to the Cardinals for Kelly, Bader, Weaver and ~3 others. Unfortunately their lack of depth is in scouting and development.
-
QUOTE (Wanne @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 09:18 PM) yeah...the fact that Chicago as well as the rest of the country just witnessed what Theo accomplished...what he said he'd do is what stings Sox fans. He completely tore down a team and had a model/vision...pretty much what most around here have been clamoring for...for how many years now? I'm hoping yesterday was a huge kick in the sac to JR and the entire front office. Doubt it...but hoping. This is where it can be misleading. There wasn't anything really to tear down. There wasn't a Sale or Q tier player. This is where Sox fans are deluded. If you look at recent Sox drafting and development, it's more of a false hope trading two ace type pitchers are going to turn you into the Cubs. They have a competent front office and organizations like the Twins tried to recruit front office people from the Cubs. The rebuild needs to happen off the field. I'm sure they will hire Tyler Flowers and Gordon Beckham to be an important part of the organization.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 01:36 PM) He should be to some extent. I keep expecting him to walk away for another job at some point. That would require another organization being interested.

Guaranteed Rate Field official at Midnight

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 11:54 PM) Same here, I'd never switch my allegiances, but if this front office and ownership group continues f*** up on a regular basis, I'm simply going to lose interest in a sport I love dearly. These guys really make it hard to be a White Sox fan right now and they have no one to blame but themselves. It's going to be that way for some time. They kept the same non productive scouts, minor league director, coaches, everything that is not productive. They can't scout at all. I may go into Sox fan exile. There are other teams so there is no reason to lose interest in a sport you love dearly. I do admire what Ricketts has done. This is such a dream come true for him. I wish some other organization was interested in Kenny Williams.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 07:51 PM) Dumping 3 young pitchers when bad pitchers like Shields and Petricka are on the staff is the kind of move that put the Sox in this mess. My comment is that it makes no sense to trade all of those young players for 2 years of Pollock. Build. Develop. Appropriately scout and evaluate. Use analytics (With all of those gaudy degrees, surely Hahn knows what those are). Take advantage of opportunities. Make clever deals. You can't force it for one player people drool over because he was good 2 years ago. Many teams can add 3 veterans and, on paper it looks like they could contend. it doesn't work. Teams need youth and depth, particularly in pitching. The Sox have none, although the really young pitching is looking good. Stockpile it, don't trade it. It worries me that the Sox are sending up young pitchers too soon. -
A lesson here for you kids. Roids are forgiven, gambling NOT!

QUOTE (Footlongcomiskeydog @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 09:03 PM) The Tribe won't even get another baserunner in this game. Hopefully this collapse gets into their heads and the Sox can kick their ass next year. Only if CLE goes to the NL. I'm glad they made it. To me Cleveland, Ohio, and severe depression are synonyms.
-
QUOTE (Footlongcomiskeydog @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 08:59 PM) I'm not saying they are gonna necessarily go back to back, but they are lights years better than any of the Giants teams that won every other year 3X. It all boils down to who is hot at the right time. Did you think Cleveland would be in the WS? Odd that for 3 years an AL Central team made it there. Have you forgot the Sept. cool down by the 2005 Sox? They lost only one post season game. One of the most dominant WS teams in history. We assumed it would happen in 2006 gaining Thome.
