  1. QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Aug 9, 2016 -> 09:22 PM) Frazier, clutch? How many of his bombs are solo shots? This one doesn't mean s***. Well sometimes people failed to get on base. I think he will be a better hitter after a year of AL pitching.
  2. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Aug 8, 2016 -> 06:11 PM) He's got $20MM in the bank so maybe he can go back to Cuba if he can't handle being away for his family. A communist government would love to have that money.
  3. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 10:33 PM) We've seen them win in our lifetimes. I wanna see a run where they are competitive making it fun to watch everyday of every season. Obviously I want them to win the whole thing again, but I just want to see them be good again. Well we did get to see a nice April for a change.
  4. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 10:01 PM) Not me. I'd almost sell my soul to have a run like they had from 51-67. Knowing they were going to win more then they lost at the end of the year, knowing they had a reasonable chance to make the expanded playoffs more then once every seven years and knowing that fans and the media actually cared. You can't win the World Series if you don't get to the playoffs first. That's the initial step...after that it's a crapshoot, especially in a short series. Mark Dynasties don't exist anymore. I do wonder if Braves fans miss those old days.
  5. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 06:46 PM) But as many on this forum will tell you, if you take away Shields bad starts he's a decent middle of the rotation arm. That's like saying Albers is a decent arm out of the pen.
  6. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 05:34 PM) We all know Shields will not opt out of his contract. Unless he hates ridiculous amounts of money. Money he will not see in the open market. Another bone headed acquisition by the Hahn/KW death machine. What really grinds my gears is that the White Sox were in an incredible tail spin when they acquired him AND Shields himself was going through the worst rough patch of his career. Golly gee, that's exactly what a team in disarray needs! Hahn had an opportunity to redeem himself by selling high before the trade deadline but he failed... again. His excuse "He is under contract control for more than one season" and apparently teams shy away from that midseason, which is new to me?!? In most cases, isn't that more attractive for buyers at trade deadlines? We all know this team needs to hit the reset button. These half measures and retooling attempts have been crap. Can JR just man up and do whats best for this organization and let the Hahn/KW death machine go? Sadly, I doubt it. Status quo reigns supreme on the Southside JR is part of that.
  7. QUOTE (TRU @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 01:21 PM) He will be 35 years old come December.. Barring injury, he will complete this season with 10 straight years of 30+ Starts and 200+ innings I think its very possible he could get a 3 yr deal based on track record alone.. Never under estimate an owner to overpay for mediocre and below for pitching. The Sale contract is one of the best in sports.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 04:19 PM) Abreu's son was at the game today, and it was the first time Abreu saw him since the winter when he was back in Cuba. That was the first time he saw him in 3 years. 3 hits today, has been hot lately. Maybe a reason for his decline this season. It is possible for players to have an off year.
  9. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 03:13 PM) At this rate Shields is going to LOSE 20 games this year. Great pickup Rick! And how about that Albers and Kahnle combo? Sox traded a kid who looks like he's got a real chance for that stiff Kahnle who throws 100, problem is he can't find the plate. Mark The second coming of Tony Pena and Mike McDougal.
  10. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 12:58 PM) I'd like to see what the Sox scouting reports said re his 10 run debacle in Seattle. I mean Rick Hahn did have his scouts actually watching him pitch, didn't he? Another Hahn effort that sets the organization back....and he overpaid, as always, even if Shields pitched okay. JR has eaten the following Rick Hahn contracts: Latos, Keppinger, Rollins, Bonifacio and now it will have to be Shields. He also at KW's Danks contract. Hard to criticize JR. But it's also hard to see how he doesn't address the mess his VP and GM have created. I wonder if JR did that as well. What we see in both GMs is a lightning in a bottle approach. That point to JR having a hand in this.
  11. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 01:34 PM) Sox scouting department may be the worst in MLB, they continually suck year after year. When they said Avi was a 5 tool player that was enough for me. The development isn't any better. I wonder how he would turn out if he was a Tiger.
  12. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 12:50 PM) James Shields to Matt Albers...it's really just a slap in the face at this point. Last time I pay my $ for MLB.tv to watch this team for at least a few years. They need to earn my trust that they are capable of putting together a winning team before I pay another penny going to the organization. Because I honestly don't believe anybody at the top of this organization is capable of doing so at this point. I think it's a great opportunity to look for a new allegiance since nothing will change in this organization. It's like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. How many times is it going to take to finally not kick the football. Unfortunately the local team out here sucks too.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 12:19 PM) I don't know if anyone should have confidence in Hahn, I am just pointing out that they aren't going to try to make it work with the same players again. It will be a very different mix. Whether they still will be mired in mediocrity, I don't know. I choose to hope not, but I can understand if people think it won't work. But many of the same people who say KW, JR and Hahn have no clue, want these guys to get rid of all of their good players and choose prospects to replace them. I have no idea why someone would think that's a good idea with no confidence in the management team. The fact is, if you are going to totally rebuild and you are trading pillars of a core, you have to have the utmost confidence in the people tearing it down. If not, you are only going to make a bad situation worse, and worse for a long time. That's the way I see it. The Sox were not the only bad teams to not trade any of their star players.
  14. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Aug 6, 2016 -> 06:58 PM) Looking for a manager while your current manager is still employed, would turn off a lot of candidates Not really unless you have not reached a decision about the current manager.
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 6, 2016 -> 09:40 AM) Next year is just going to be another attempt at winning with roughly the same team and new coaching staff. Sale, Quintana, Shields. Rodon, Gonzalez will be the rotation unless Shields goes in a waiver deal this month. They'll start the season with Melky, Frazier, and Lawrie. They'll sign two different catchers again. Same old stuff. That's a nice rotation many teams can't match. Gonzalez is doing well and doesn't get much praise. If you have a decent staff like that you don't blow it up. You build around it. As for Frazier I hope he will have a better season after a year in the AL. Same with Abreu. I think if the pen wasn't this bad the Sox would not be out of it. If they get leadership from inside the organization again, I expect mediocrity no matter who is on the field. The only manager that had two playoff teams this century happen to be a former player but got his coaching experience in another organization.
  16. There's been a lot of give aways by the pen.
  17. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 09:49 PM) I don't really blast Robin for managing the pen right now. It's a disaster unless it's the 8th or 9th. His hands are tied. Isn't this more of Cooper's responsibility? He may have outlived his effectiveness.
  18. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 09:48 PM) Really? I mean this is a business and JR's business is suffering. It's time to bring in fresh blood. A new GM that reports to JR directly. Then a new coaching staff that can develop players and coach them well. Rebuild this thing and we'll be back on track in a few seasons. That's the only way to be good for a period of time. Otherwise it's lightning in a bottle. Is a waste of time with the same front office. It seems this is a pattern shared by Hah/KW. So it makes me think Reinsdorf is far more involved.
  19. He's a SS. I could see some paranoia if he was a 1B/DH.
  20. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 09:34 PM) Why is it that the umps always seem to oblige the opposing managers but refuse to review when the Sox request? It's like they have no respect for Ventura. They must read Soxtalk and WSI.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 10:45 AM) If we are being honest then maybe we should give him more than 2 months to be realistic about the situation. The league will adjust, and hopefully he will adjust like he did in the minors Sox fans are impatient the kids from the farm. They figure the team is so bad they gotta be better than the current roster.
  22. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 08:42 PM) I mean now. The sox have been better more recently at drafting. Trading Sale and Q would mean we're trading for successful organizations prospects. Only pitching. The rest is incompetence. They can't identify or develop position prospects.
  23. QUOTE (shakes @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 02:42 PM) If that's the case then they suck at negotiating. As I stated earlier, many teams around baseball made good deals selling at the deadline. They are also bad at making hard decisions. Not selling last deadline put them at a disadvantage this offseason, just like not selling at this years deadline will hurt in the future years building this team. I wouldn't be too sure. Winning teams with a better farm system often get better deals. I would assume why the Sox didn't complete a deal is they were not offered enough position players. Some of the proposed deals two position players and three pitchers. Do the Sox really need pitching prospects? If you are giving up a Sale one of those position prospect better be close to the 2nd coming of Mike Trout and you have to be 125% sure on your scouting reports.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 07:39 PM) Interestingting http://southside.locals.baseballprospectus...ar-it-all-down/ Great article. Part of the "Cubs" model that everyone thinks will work was having success in the draft. So their organization did a great job in the drafting dept. That is something the Sox are not good at. They keep the same people who have not done anything to improve the team. I wonder how many of them are Reinsdorf's untouchables? How many of them are sought by other organizations?
