  1. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 09:02 AM) That Kings Ransom they talked about is what I might expect with Sale having 1 year of control left. He's got 3. I want 6 guys , 2 for each year of control because you know damn well 3 will flop and maybe 2 of the remaining 3 become good ballplayers . Odds of getting a superstar are very low. That's why they need better scouting and development.
  2. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 11:51 AM) I know it's a popular idea in theory right now, especially in the moment with the team being so terrible, but I just don't see the "king's ransom" theory converting over into reality. I can't see any team actually ponying up the actual, sky-high, ridiculous market price it would take to acquire Sale. Because, to be fair to what he's worht, talent-wise, contract-wise and everything, it would be a nearly unprecedented haul. IMO, a fair Sale trade works better in theory than it would in practice. Thus, I wouldn't "shop" Sale or try to negotiate trades or anything. I would set a take-it-or-leave-it package, and just keep him when/if it's not met. That's a GM's way of saying they are not trading a player. I'll bet there have been plenty of offers on Sale for quite some time.
  3. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 08:41 AM) Their "value" isn't helping this team win and there's no help coming from the minors. We need to figure out how to get 4-5 good young position players infused into this team, and like it or not Sale and Q represent the only chance of getting that You would think that would have happened at some point under KW\Hahn\Bell. There were Tiger fans upset over the Sox getting Avi out of the Peavy trade. My question on him was he an overrated prospect or was it the lack of development on the Sox part. Scouting is beyond Matt Millen terrible. The team consistently loses to 5+ ERA pitchers they never seen. Too many players called from the minors don't just make rookie mistakes, they make I don't know how to play baseball mistakes. The Sox do fine with pitching prospects which could be a great reason to trade a guy like Sale but I don't really trust this organization to evaluate talent when it comes to giving up a cost controlled guy like Sale or Q.
  4. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 20, 2016 -> 07:19 PM) I don't know if the other stuff is true or not but I believe the part that JR wants to win now and is the reason why the FO keeps pushing for a winner. Has there ever been an 80 year old owner that went full rebuild on their team? I love the idea of trading away assets to rebuild and as a fan, yes I would easily endure the growing pains of a youth movement but I just don't think it will happen due to JR's age and desire to have one last winner. The SOX are stuck at the Nexus of the universe with JR. Considering the scouting and development you may die before that happens.
  5. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 10:59 AM) It may be a technicality but Hawk wasn't fired, he resigned and then later JR apologized for putting him in that position in the first place. Mark An announcer to GM, player totally out of professional baseball to manager = ownership is stupid.
  6. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 03:27 AM) Adam Lind = The new Jason Giambi On another note, why take out Sale at 100 pitches when he's throwing a 1 hitter? At least let him start the inning and see if he can get a few quick outs. He deserves the CG 1 hitter. The last guy that shutout the Sox was around 110+. This one's on Robin. Way too many games lost by the bullpen.
  7. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 10:19 AM) Why not BLOW IT UP???!!! We've never tried it, can't be worse than the last few years of this crap. I'd like to start with the coaching staff first. For this organization there is always a new "worse".
  8. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 10:48 PM) I don't know who thinks it will happen, but I know that it should happen You would trust the scouting dept. on this? There is no such thing as a can't miss in this organization when it comes to everything but pitching. When it comes to prospects there isn't much that points to success under Buddy Bell.
  9. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 07:11 AM) The SP market is considered fairly barren at the moment, but one of the best pitchers on the market just moved for someone that is put in the same value range as Carson Fulmer. Given that, if the White Sox strike quickly, they may be able to make the deal before some prospect rich team gets desperate. The pattern is that the White Sox pursue and overpay for power bats and ignore the mediocre average and high strikeout rates, only to have those things bite then in the ass. Lucroy is not that type of bat, and it seems dumb to eliminate half the players in the league from trade consideration just because they're in the NL. That's a fair counterpoint, but what are the options for this team? If they don't either catch fire like they did in April or make some difficult decisions to compete, they might as well just sell everything off like many on here have suggested. I'd rather see the White Sox trade from a position of strength to turn a weakness into a strength and hopefully turn a middle of the pack team into a much more formidable contender. Yes, you only get two years guaranteed out of him, but the White Sox are going to have to make a lot of hard decisions in 2017 as it stands. Either they're going to tear everything down at that point, or they're going to spend a lot of money to extend their competitive window. For the Sox it's twice as stupid to consider it.
  10. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 08:07 PM) Because Sale and Quintana are two of the most valuable controllable arms in all of baseball and left handed for that matter. Their value is insane. Maybe I'm overrating them but the package would be insane for Chris Sale. I'm guessing not. If there ever was he would have been traded before this season.
  11. I wonder if there are Angel fans who say "Blow the whole thing up. We are wasting Trout's good years on a losing team."
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 03:45 PM) Who is he going to sell? and what is he going to get?
  13. So will this be the NL bat that will finally work for the Sox? Dunn, LaRoche, Frazier....career NL bats.....is there a pattern here?
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 10:56 PM) If you need your number 3 hitter to bunt in order to score a run, then your team sucks So does your #3 hitter.
  15. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 01:17 AM) Logically you should be right...but these are the White Sox remember. And even if he is let go, what makes you think JR will approve spending big money to bring in a competent manager with a track record? Hasn't happened since Jeff Torborg in 1989. Knowing this organization it'll be another former player trying to "learn on the job." Paging Jim Thome...paging Jim Thome. Mark What's worse is plenty of Sox fans buy into that. The ones that have coaching experience are not sought by other organizations as far as we know.

Mark If any player wants to ruin their legacy as player they should always head coach or manage the team they played for.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 02:13 AM) I might finally be done with the Sox (to the joy of Soxtalkers galore) if they name Buddy Bell the new manager. Won't be thrilled with Renteria but I guess I'll give him a chance at least. I'm sorta getting there. Where is this lunacy of Buddy Bell being the manager. He gets paid quite well and seems there is no accountability for him.
  18. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 12:56 AM) JR is too loyal to fire people that should be fired. I thought that was pretty much acknowledged by everyone here at this point? I don't see Hahn doing to much different than what KW did. It makes me think that's the only way Reinsdorf wants it.
  19. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 12:30 AM) How many times do I have to refute this stupid point that so many people keep making. You are wasting the WAR of Sale/Q on losing teams when you can trade them to contenders to acquire WAR in the form of players who can contribute in future seasons which is MUCH more valuable to this team. Ownership could be different at the next contention window and we may actually sign the top free agents for once. It doesn't matter if the return is less than 1 for 1 because you are getting something for Sale/Q when they would become free agents anyway without contributing to a playoff team. The current roster is too talent deficient and there are only a handful of prospects in our system right now who have a prayer of being better than a utility player or reliever. This is more meaningless to a player than a fan. Great players and HOF players stayed on bad teams. Sometimes players may demand a trade. So few are ever outspoken how their organization is run. Right now the team has decent pitching that is cost controlled. Mediocre pitching and below still gets a high price in free agency. Playoffs and rings are not as important to an athlete as we think unless they have become content with their bank account. "Wasting a player's years on a bad team" is only a fan's perspective.
  20. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 10:33 PM) I'm becoming more open to selling, but if we're gonna do it, we have to do it right. No half-assing it. I mean trading Sale, Quintana, Abreu, Frazier, everyone 27 and over basically. I feel like if we sold, we'd keep one of Sale/Q and keep us perpetually average This organization can't do it right. Scouting and development suck.
  21. If I didn't know what unclutch is I think I found it. Frazier should be moved down in the lineup.
  22. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 15, 2016 -> 11:11 PM) Angels deliver the key hit when we couldn't. As Hawk said the first rule in baseball is that you have to catch the ball Put Albers on the mound and anyone can get a key hit.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 01:58 PM) And that's why I say "sell." The problems they have in the division won't be fixed this year. It's a scouting problem and Cleveland, Detroit and KC will win eight of every 10 vs the Sox the second half. Sell. Try to see the lack of logic in this.
  24. The coaching hasn't improved. It seems they are much better at scoring in later innings.
