  1. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Oct 16, 2015 -> 11:41 PM) In 2003 they had a two game lead over the Twins with I think 15 to go. Lost the last two games at home of the Twins series and were swept away the following week. They had the horses in 2003 and pissed it away. Again the had a three game lead in 2012 with I think 17 to go and completely fell apart and handed the division to Detroit. They had enough to win it to in 2012 and pissed it away. Ditto for blowing golden chances in 2006 by falling apart in the second half and 2010 when they had a lead in August, every relief pitcher seemingly went on the DL and they fell apart. The only consistent thing about the Sox the past 15 years has been poor second halves which has cost them dearly. How would this franchise look today, how would more importantly the perception of the franchise look if they got into the playoffs in 2000, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012? Alas we'll never know because the Sox keep blowing good chances. I'll repeat something I said earlier someplace, 'blind' loyalty towards anything...a religion, a baseball team, a government I don't care what it is, is dangerous in my opinion. Mark Since the new century "mental midgets" come to mind. They either couldn't handle pressure or the other teams were better at baseball. I often think it's the latter but we often have more choke than clutch.
  2. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 15, 2015 -> 10:25 PM) That is your opinion. One good year does not mean jack for next year anything can happen. Just ask the 2006 Sox.
  3. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Oct 15, 2015 -> 09:40 PM) As someone who has been in the business professionally for almost 40 years my only reply is to paraphrase what Walter Cronkite said as the keynote speaker for the National Association of Broadcasters Convention in the mid 70's. He stunned the audience by systematically ripping apart the medium he helped create because he could see what was coming. Basically, 'tell the people what they want to hear instead of telling them what they need to know in an unbiased way..." He must be turning over in his grave at what goes on today. My business today is an embarrassment and that shames me to have to say that. Mark Part of that problem which is why I can't stomach the NFL is that too many former players are allowed to be journalists and analysts. The problem with the Sox though is they really are boring.
  4. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 08:03 PM) All this dick measuring over KW and Hahn. They're in the "paid to get it right" business. Right now, they're not getting it right. Bottom line. This is a big offseason. In most organizations, yes. They are protected by the Reinsdorf loyalty program.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 08:06 AM) What many people are missing is the teams they want the Sox to be like, the Cubs, the Pirates, the Royals, the Astros, were consistently awful for a very, very, very long time. None of them won it all as of late either. Some organizations make a habit of trading a good player for multiple prospects and when one of them shines they start the process over. So when the fans like a player the attitude is how long do they get to enjoy him.
  6. Cubs got some deals that don't happen every day. As for the Cards they are a mystery as to what they do to sustain winning. Someone has mention before the Sox organization is very casual with no pressure. Players like it here. Maybe that's why they fold when there is any pressure. They way the season started you have to blame the manager. This organization is a big joke to professional sports when you hire a manager by asking one with no experience who didn't even apply or interview. The farm system still has the same people running it with no results. I'll settle for new ownership that makes the existing people have to interview for their job.
  7. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 09:49 PM) Whoa whoa. The Shark and Laroche flops came outa nowhere. I imagine we'll all be impressed again this offseason. Avi not taking a step forward was a major blow too. Feel bad for Rick that he has more work to do than he should. I feel there is a pattern that this team has little luck getting production out of veteran NL players. Get them while they are young. The last thing they need is to get another pitcher.
  8. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 09:31 PM) Great post, but it's too bad this board ridicules people for supporting the Cubs for whatever reason. In reality, we're better off encouraging baseball discussion instead of calling people "f***ing idiots" for being happy for the Cubs. For example: Not only is the post complete garbage (There is enough support from both sides of town to support two successful teams), it's not a good look for the White Sox fanbase and it's not a good look for this board. A number of us love the game and love the White Sox and don't need to justify who we support and what we watch otherwise. I'm here to discuss the White Sox (no matter how abysmal they look) and the rest of baseball with people from similar upbringings and interests. We should not ever question the White Sox fandom of a person because we are not to judge. Great post. A moderator here doesn't seem to understand this.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 06:19 PM) Loyal fans mean money when things aren't good. Wouldn't that be nice now. Media contracts mean money good or bad.
  10. I believe they are over achieving this season.
  11. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 03:48 PM) My favorite part of the article was where it said "Of course, the best way to fix a drop in fan support is to reel off a string of playoff appearances". I mean, who woulda thunk it!! Even that has it's downs if you don't win it all like the Braves.
  12. QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 12, 2015 -> 01:20 PM) There is no adjustment. Increased interleague play has taken care of that, plus all the FA and trade movements, same umpires, etc. American league is just the superior hitting league right now. I disagree. Interleague play may be a third of the season. We don't fair well with NL players who've spent most of their career in NL. They need to stop. AL and NL baseball is night and day IMO.
  13. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Oct 11, 2015 -> 12:30 PM) One of the best posts I've seen this entire season, mirroring the classic ranting style of Kenny Powers. The sox need to fulfill their destiny of selling the most demanded sports ticket in all of Chicago. After that, we'll continue with even more success, driving the cubs franchise to follow in the footsteps of the late Montreal Expos. Not going to happen. The only way is to move where there are no professional sports or to the suburbs. It's not the end of the world.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 12, 2015 -> 01:40 AM) I truly hate to always be a dick and can't wait for the Sox to be good again, but LaRoche is not gonna hit 17 home runs. That ship has sailed. I predict he'll hit .213 with 7 home runs and 32 RBI. Ugh. It may be possible. I think a veteran NL player needs time to adjust to AL pitching.
  15. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Oct 12, 2015 -> 12:07 AM) White Sox baseball is my hobby, man. Sorry if you got a problem with that. Post of the Week!!!!!!!!
  16. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 10, 2015 -> 03:18 PM) Don't know about his defense at third... and his hitting isn't even good anymore. 1 year of LaRoche > 3 years of Hanley Sounds like a perfect White Sox.
  17. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 10:56 PM) I'm going to come out and say it, but if you claim to be a true Sox fan and are cheering for the Cubs this postseason then you are a f***ing idiot. Our beloved franchise has always been the ugly step-child of the Chicago sports scene and a Cubs World Series victory would make us even more irreverent. Go ahead and come up with some lame excuse on why it's ok to cheer for them, but you are literally rooting against the well-being of your own franchise. There is no good that comes to the Sox from the Cubs winning the World Series, none whatsoever. It's absolutely disgusting how many "Sox fans" I know are jumping on this bandwagon and it's even worse how many members on this site, a forum that is home to some of the most die-hard Sox fans in the world, are pro-Cubs right now. Waaaaaaaaaaaaay over the top. I can see Sox fans more envious of the Cubs this season. Who predicted them at 97 games? Watching a Cubs game vs. a Sox game is night an day. I see quit and choke watching the Sox. No matter how their post season turns out the fans have something to look forward to next year. The news we have is Ventura will be returning. It makes you feel like the bastard step child who gets hand me down shoes. I doubt we would see this if they were still owned by the Tribune Co. I for one think this Cub team has peaked and will not have the same success next year. That's the reality of baseball. It's just as much jealousy as it is hate for the Cubs. They are young and winning. We have one of their former products that made us get worse. The Sox will be the bastard step child in this city unless they move or get new ownership.
  18. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 02:02 PM) Hopefully they lose in the most painful possible way. That was already achieved with the Bartman incident. That shows you how uncivil we are when it comes to professional sports. If I was Bartman, I'm a Cardinals fan.
  19. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Oct 10, 2015 -> 07:53 AM) I disagree. Q needs to fill more than 1 hole if you trade him. Otherwise you are only opening a hole to fill one. You don't trade a potential #1 starter or even a high #2 for one impact bat. I would trade him for 2 ML ready players and a high prospect. or the Sox like to get NL players who can't adjust to the NL whose name isn't Adam Eaton.
  20. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 10, 2015 -> 10:35 AM) Would be a big fan of him as manager. I love former catchers as managers. Essentially the captain on the field as they are involved in everything. Plus he played for the Sox so he meets Jerry's criteria haha This could be the reason why other teams are not interested in him. Everything is comfy in Sox land. No accountability in the organization. That's why players like it here.
  21. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 10, 2015 -> 08:03 AM) That would be a great hire imo. He has been interviewed for quite a bit of managerial jobs as well, correct? If so, teams at least see something in him. Yeah, not to hire him. Another Sox retread = yawn.
  22. Certain teams have gotten deals that don't happen to everyone. I don't see any valid points of this OP thread. No one has a crystal ball when it comes to trading players at their highest value. At some point how long do you trade anyone who is good in hopes that getting younger and good shows up? Prospects are the highest risk to trade for in this organization.
  23. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 04:03 PM) I remember reading over the summer where Shark to the Yankees at some point (or the Dodgers or Cardinals) was a possibility. Wouldn't surprise me in the least. Nor would it surprise me if he rebounded to have a good year as soon as he got out of town. Has happened going all the way back to David Wells. That's the "White Sox way." Mark Worst scenario = trade Q, over pay Smarj. They only way he can perform better is go back to the NL. I'd rather have the Sox bring up one of the kids to pitch. IF the team is going to suck I'd rather it be due to youth than veterans.
