QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 01:52 PM) You don't think the Sox would have taken better care of him than the Yanks last year? If they were to spend that kinda money on starter from Japan, they'd ease him in and they would be good at it. In Japan the season is shorter and probably some other things that makes playing in MLB a shortened career. The Sox were willing to pay Fukadome more money than the Cubs. There was only one Japanese player that ever stood out in MLB. I think they are high risk.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 09:12 PM) Thank God those Sale runs were unearned. I was cringing at the thought of his ERA before I saw the box score. I check his Ks. He's 2nd in baseball in that stat. Shutting him down denies him a chance at being the leader in Ks. It may not be popular with the treating pitchers like glass crowd but it may be a goal he wants to achieve.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 08:22 PM) Quietly Perez has twenty homers in an overall disappointing season for him. $7 million over 5 years. Best bargain in baseball. Meanwhile, Cueto the latest example of NL stars looking suddenly human in the AL. Ironic that two main players who fizzled for them this year, Frasor and Alex Rios, both played for the Sox. That will go unnoticed in the Sox organization.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 08:58 PM) They're probably going to be too afraid to trade him due to the blowback/White Flag spectre so Quintana gets dealt instead. I don't think they trade him either.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 08:55 PM) Seriously. Surprised people still complain about Cooper and pitch counts. We've had a terrific run under Cooper with the lack of major injuries to the starters. He knows what he's doing. He's hard to replace unless you find someone better. The Sox never replace with someone better. They look for a former favorite player from the 80s and 90s.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 08:33 PM) Like I said earlier...that's exactly what we should be doing with him right now. He's got 2 starts left. Work him the last 2 starts and hopefully that builds his arm up next year so that maybe next year or even 2017 we don't have to worry about a "dead arm" hitting him in July. Didn't he have high pitch counts in April?

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 07:59 PM) The Sox do have a lot of holes Catcher also is a huge hole to me. I think that is the toughest one to fill for any team. It's not a glamorous position.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 07:17 PM) Sale should have been shelved 2 weeks ago. Most of the usual suspect in the lineup. This is not "young player friendly" organization, especially with Cooper and Ventura in the dugout. But I'm sure glad Melky loves Robbie as manager. I hate this attitude. Pitchers are not glass. Has MLB become this pussified?

According MLB, Sale has no earned runs. Is that right?

QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 09:10 PM) i agree. they have been looking and when jones went down last yr. no other pitcher was able to step up. and Jone is not that guy and neither was that dude they traded to AZ

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 04:43 PM) Also, I think what you mentioned is why it's disappointing they didn't unload Robertson last month. You can easily acquire a closer for cheaper/less years going forward if you start to make some progress in talent acquisition this offseason. No reason to pay huge money for Robertson given his struggles this year. I highly doubt he'd get the same amount of money if he was a FA this offseason. I bet Hahn listened to offers and is not the sumpin for nuttin guy. I disagree about getting a closer for less and be effective. Otherwise they would have done it.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) It pisses me off, that's for sure. Sick of bad defensive players. Would rather see how Sanchez could hold up at short and Saladino at 3b. They're potentially part of this future, Olt isnt. I guess the organization knows what they have in those two.
-
QUOTE (AlSoxfan @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 04:35 PM) yep..another good game by Q and another no decision. I know wins mean little in today's game but come on. Maybe Robin should let him win his own games. Robertson is starting to join the mental midgets.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 06:00 AM) 1. Avisail* 2. No, you can't just make someone a third baseman. Especially someone with his athleticism. The organization has done stuff like this before. They tried to turn Viciedo in playing 3rd. Even Cora couldn't do anything with Fields. I never understood where the Sox ever thought this would work. You might be able to do this with someone is who is extremely talented in baseball but the organization never gets or can recognize those players. They even try this with veteran players playing positions they are not use to and sometimes it effects their overall play. He is the fans' new whipping boy. I wonder if that would be the case if the veterans weren't so unproductive.

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 09:13 PM) It's absolutely annoying to me how the Twins go hitless 3 or 4 innings in a row, then have a huge inning. They're 23rd in overall batting average, yet 4th in average with RISP. Wasn't that their MO before?

Sox have tried to sign Samardzija to a long term deal

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 02:13 PM) Samardzija pitched for the Cubs when they couldn't score him runs. He was an excellent pitcher last year. What he's done this year is not indicative of what kind of pitcher he was before. Anyone can have a great year. See Francisco Barrios. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 02:17 PM) He has an ERA of nearly 6.00 when the Sox score him at least 6 runs. So even that isn't an excuse this year. He's never been as great as the hype, that is just fact. But he can't possibly be as bad as he's been his last 9 starts. It's not like he's throwing 85. He has just been way too hittable. His locations are horrible. Career stats seem to say that. -
9/16 Athletics at White Sox

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 09:12 PM) I don't really buy the 'if's' with this team. I truly think this team blows and if Shark did well somebody else would have just screwed up. Interesting stat though. Shark has definitely been worthless. I'd believe that. That's the season in a nutshell anyway. -

I'm watching Arietta trying to bag his 20th. Maddon's going to let him earn it. Strangest inning I've seen. Now tied. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 10:52 PM) It's shocking how bad Samardzija is right now... Is it as shocking as people thought he was really good? I think wins can still define a pitcher. He has a losing record every year except for one. Look at Sale. He is on a bad team and he had one losing season. I look at Smarj's stats and where does it in any way say "big contract" or ace. What separates and ace is the team and fans feel more confident of a victory. But Q destroys this theory. If he were pitching for a team that produces runs - 15 game winner, Sale 17 game winner. The title of this one hurts. http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/contin...amardzija-trade -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 10:44 PM) Dayum. He sent you back to hs with a homework assignment. Just as long as he doesn't get depressed or angry like the others.

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Sep 14, 2015 -> 10:38 AM) Exactly. That is why I disagree when everyone says that Sale is having a poor season. He's been exactly like he always has, the only difference is that the Twins own him this year and he's faced them 5 or 6 times already, which shot up his ERA. He'll be fine. We just have to hope that he can avoid Minnesota next year. I guess it's different if you are using the Sale yardstick vs. the MLB yardstick. It's no different with any pitcher. They either own a team or get owned by a team. The peculiar one is Danks vs. opponents. I'm not a fan of shutting down a hard throwing pitcher. I can only think that trend started with Strasburg. They treat some of these pitcher like they are glass. I think it was Woody Fryman who started the season with four man rotation. Taking away the competition from athletes based on they competed too much makes no sense. Pitching is just as much a mental game as it is physical. Mark B. knows how to get people out throwing at 89 and Nate Jones thinks he can get everyone out throwing 98.
