  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 12, 2015 -> 10:55 AM) The Cardinals have lost 7 of 9. I guess that clearly invalidates 5 months of a .650 winning percentage. They're totally losing that division. They should have sold at the trade deadline. Like how when the White Sox won 7 straight it propelled them to the best record in baseball and clearly established they were the best team. That winning streak still hasn't ended. Yep. The Cubs are hot at the wrong time.
  2. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Sep 12, 2015 -> 06:13 AM) Jerry has made comments about Thome and managing that seem to suggest he IS the next manager. And I wouldn't be surprised if Konerko manages within the next 10 years. Rinse and repeat hoping for a different result. Why does everyone think Konerko stills want to be involved in baseball? Once again it will be rinse and repeat hoping for a different result. The guys who want to be involved starts as instructors and work their way up. That's how Ozzie did it and with a different organization.
  3. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 11:07 PM) Tell that to Kenny and Cooper who have had negative things to say about the fan base on at least four occasions this season. That's part of the Sox M.O. in my opinion. 1. Never admit you screwed up... 2. Blame Sox fans... Mark In some professional sports organizations that gets you fired. The division between fans and organization to some degree has been going on for 4 decades. Only new ownership will change that.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 03:28 PM) Yet the Cubs are the envy of a lot of Soxtalk, and besides Schwarber and Bryant, how many of their own draft picks dot their roster? I am pretty sure the White Sox have more of their own picks on theirs and what they do is wrong. Not every team gets those offers like that either.
  5. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Sep 12, 2015 -> 04:30 PM) Amen bro. It's tough pretending to be 150 years old telling stories about where you were when the Black Sox scandal hit. "Boy that Joe Jackson could really lay into a 70mph fastball! Cicotte? Absolute stud!" But it's cool some of the old-timers here remember some of these guys. Speaking of which, can any of you share some insight with us young guys about some of the old fabled Sox pitchers? That would be pretty cool. There was no radar gun. They had guys who could throw hard. The ball wasn't wrapped as tight. There probably wasn't custom made bats. A lot less technology. They didn't treat pitchers like they are glass. There was no "let's shut him down" bulls***. Substance abuse was too much scotch. They had off season jobs. No DH. I would have loved to see baseball before the 70's and those Sox teams in the 50's and 60's.
  6. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Sep 12, 2015 -> 02:42 PM) First off, my first move would be to part ways with Robin. This team is desperate for a new identity and culture. IMO, that begins with bringing in a manager with a plan of attack. Hopefully KW leaves for another opportunity, but assuming he returns, I'll pray he does some of the following this winter: 1) Offer Samardzija that QO. From everything I'm hearing, he will likely decline in an attempt to net a bigger deal else were. This means the White Sox obtain a first rounder. Keeping ALL of their picks in 2016 should be priority #1. 2) Decline the player option on Alexei and move on. He is well beyond his prime. 3) Trade from the teams strength (pitching). Many posters here have mentioned the idea of trading Quintana. He ideally can net a pretty solid return given his age, cost and production. In a perfect world you can fill two positions with such trade and the Sox have holes at 3B, SS, 2B, C, and RF. (I think Avi can improve but he has had a down year that makes many concerned) 4) Give the prospects a chance and start the process of seeing what you have in house. 5) Avoid the temptation of signing FAs unless you it does NOT sacrifice a draft pick. 6) focus on adding depth to the farm system. I would consider dealing valuable veterans like Cabrera and Robertson if it means adding needed prospects to farm to better increase the teams chances for 2018 and beyond. With all the holes on this roster, I am more focused on adding prospect depth over MLB roster depth. This team needs to undergo a rebuild. This rebuild can be accelerated via trades and wise personelle decisions made by upper management. Unfortunately, I don't trust upper management anymore... The retooling will likely continue and the sub.500 mediocre baseball will commence on the Southside. Oy vey..... Pretty hard to do if the organization doesn't or can't follow it.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 12, 2015 -> 01:52 PM) Nate is just another Petricka with a bit more upside IMO. Cleveland announcers hit it on the head. His windup and delivery make it easy for the hitter to see the ball. That why you have guys pulling the ball in 98mph pitches. Plus kids think they throw the ball hard enough to blow it by big league hitters. They think all teams have bat speed like the Sox.
  8. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Sep 12, 2015 -> 08:09 AM) Jones was outstanding on his return but he has really come back to earth. I have no issues with a guy on the DL. He got the loss but usually one of the mental midgets come in and destroy any chance for a comeback. We have too many guys in the pen that do that. One is too many. I'm not surprised in a no pressure organization.
  9. Mark The other one is "show up and we will make the team better".
  10. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 11:03 PM) I've found that guys who are "mental midgets" are generally poor at baseball fundamentals and simply don't know how to play the game. The Sox have them by the bushel full. Which explains a lot to me. Again it comes back to accountability. There is very little showing in this franchise right now. I understand you can't fine players for doing stupid things and not executing like Richards, Lopez and Stanky could do but you sure can bench guys, or send them back down to the minor leagues. Instead we get another game where guys like Ramirez, LaRoche and Melky are in the lineup instead of kids who need seasoning and to see what they can do. Mark I believe there is a point of no return if you draft guys with deficiencies on how to play baseball. If they can't catch a baseball how is that going to improve at this level. They also need to stop getting free agents where Sept. is a relaxing time of year.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 04:53 PM) f*** this bulls***. Brian, this doesn't make you right I could see it if it to get a farm guy a start but it seems even with hitters who have a couple of good games they sit out a game. Never stop forward progress.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 11:15 PM) Good. He's had a fine season for a newcomer. I think he's been great. Shut him down. No need to pitch him any more. This is the dumbest thing in baseball. I don't think they did this in the previous century unless the person was bad. Shutdown Shark.
  13. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 06:16 PM) True, and the fans don't have to justify why they stay away from his ballpark in droves. It cuts both ways. Post of the week.
  14. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 09:03 PM) Whatever the remainder of the rotation would be, Wilbur Wood would be in it pitching on two days rest. Sale to start. Wood to relief. That would mess with hitters.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 09:56 PM) Why would anyone buy season tickets for a team that can never win a meaningful game against a division rival? Hahn has never fixed the second lefty issue either...Jennings was garbage most of this season. They need to find a way to determine if a player is a mental midget. Too much choke, need more clutch.
  16. Another mental midget performance by the pen. They seem to get the idea of playing for a better draft pick.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 03:47 PM) I gotta get one of these. Me too. This so blows away bobble heads. It give's Sale that super hero image.
  18. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 10:21 PM) I think the Sox need to get multiple boppers. Longoria, CarGo/Puig. Hell, I'd check in on Detroit to see if they'd be willing to deal Miggy or the Angels with Pujols. Look at Beltre. I need at least 3 proven bats, I need LaRoche gone, I'm willing to deal Q. Definitely let Jeff S go. The way things are going once they put that Sox uniform on = bust. Maybe Miggy performs but Pujols would require a team taking on a lot of salary. It's a bad contract since I think he is signed until he's 90.
  19. QUOTE (DaveBrown85 @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 06:12 PM) No, it says you're from Pittsburgh. But in reality. Do you think the White Sox think this will make more people come? It would probably attract those ebay sellers.
  20. QUOTE (sammy esposito @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 06:50 PM) Shark shows no remorse or responsibility to his team when he has a bad outing. He never lets it get to him. He got use to them by now.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 09:19 AM) Well first, look at the last few (say, 3) drafts. They team isn't drafting Jared Mitchell and Keenyn Walker anymore. They also aren't drafting "safe" college arms in order to sign for slot. And they are doing overslot picks lower in the draft and spending extra money to do so. Also, the new rules have helped the Sox immensely, and they've used basically their full pool (in 2014 they in fact went over) every year. No working to save money for that sake. That's a big change too. Then there are the personnel. Some are the same, some are different. Hostetler, who is not a through-and-through Sox guy, is now basically running the draft. And there are other scouting and front office personnel changes. Coaches in the minors have changed in some cases, though Mr. Bell is still around. This doesn't even touch on the LatAm stuff, which has gone from dead in the water to now starting to churn out talent state-side as the 16-year olds grow up a bit. Point is, the club is doing some very different things now than they were just three years ago (or 2 or 4) on the amateur side. People seem to think the club is still just drafting either Walker/Mitchell types or Broadway types. That simply isn't true. That is good to know.
  22. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 10:22 AM) Honestly, when the team is bad, I think I'd rather follow Hot Stove rumors. This is where baseball stands out among the other sports.
  23. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 03:23 PM) Unless they nail that trade that would be one of the most fan murdering things ever. And does anyone think they will "get right" a trade for position players? I certainly don't. Ugh, no Q and Shark at 17-18 million. That would be hard to f***ing stomach. I view Shark as a bum. Q is not a bum. Q is worth cheering for. Shark is not imo. It's also baseball stupid regrading Shark. I never got the hype. I guess Billy Beane didn't either.
  24. QUOTE (harkness @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 01:44 PM) If there was anyone in the history of coaches that did not deserve another year... I can't think of a many more. No experience No track record of success But I still think a lot is to be determined by their final trend and record. That's the way the organization will replace Ventura. In that case I have no problem with him finishing his contract. I don't want another liked player, even Jim Thome.
  25. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 10:11 PM) Sloppy. Samardzija one and done. At least I look forward to Danks pitching.
